Ghahahahaha!

I sometimes have an awfully difficult time wheedling out the bullshit from the satire, these days. If anyone can help me, I'd truly appreciate it.

I will fear tsunamis, tidal waves, and typhoon if I was living in that.

You know what we need? We need cities something like in the movie "The Jetsons." They have cities that are supported on sticks and you can get to places on cars.

But sticks come from trees. Even metal ones must be made by exploiting Mother Earth.

So either way, I guess it's a no-go.

But really, even disregarding the complete absurdity for a moment, that image is just fucking hilarious. I burst out laughing the moment I saw it.

Hmmmm, I thought housing prices where falling...
Immocrysis anyone?

Pointless idea for that reason.
(Like all "concept style" preneginered social housing communities for normal adults in a more general way. Dumbest idea ever; floating gethos.)

Funny to read what they tell about the wonderful living there...
Is all they eat going to be effin seafood and tang?

That is exactly what I was thinking! :D

Also, Marineking...wouldn't you enjoy losing the land to the sea? Judging by your name that is. :D

Shit, no. It's the Marines, not the navy. Marines spend a bit of time at sea, of course, but they're primarily a land force. Water fucking sucks. Makes your clothes all heavy and hard to move, the salt fucks with your hair, and you just get this unpleasant feeling unless your almost completely naked.

And @ Ronin; as for the "floating ghettos" idea (Which I think was the word you were looking for), I'm pretty sure that would be seen as a pretty good idea by most of the Environmentalists who propose this kinda stuff. It's really little more then an off-shoot of socialism, in my view, and there's nothing they like better then a group of people suffering together.

Ok, so there's obviously some kinks...

If a large city was to float there must be some huge bouyant hull underneath it keeping it from floating. This huge hull which can support weight of this 50,000 people/habitat, would not only have to be incredibly huge but have alot of volume. Wouldn't this in turn displace more water? The other cities that maybe weren't worried about sea levels too much would have to worry more. This method of fixing the problem, wouldn't that actually make the problem worse.

I'm confused, is this bullshit?

I remember reading 'somewhere' that if you were to removal all ships, from the ocean the sea level would only decrease by a few millimetres.

While, I can't provide any citation or even a clear memory of it being true, you'll just have to believe me...

Anyway, while it may seem somewhat stupid. They're at least trying to do something. Albeit somewhat poorly and without regard for the economical and social strain such things would cause, I mean imagine parking a 'lilly pad' next to a city, how would the city cope with the extra demand for food, water and other resources?

Another thing worth considering is that to make these ships they're have to use materials which are made using Fossil fuels.

Lets drink more water together !!!!!!!! then pee it out on the ocean so the ocean becomes one big pee
and then when the sea levels raise we will have pee flood

Meh.

Get working on a machine which can clone robots, make a robot bee which is designed to spread pollen and clone millions of them at once in different contrys, THEN we can stop worrying about the sea levels rising ._.

Lol i would be funny if you can just stick a pin into it and it pops and deflates (thats what it looks like IMO)

and wouldn't be a bette ridea just to make cities by digging into the ocean and planting steel to build all the way to surface and add extra land and crap so it would be connected to civilization aka land?

But I rathe rlive in a flying city than a water city

You know, if I ever become mindboggingly rich, I think I'm going to dedicate myself to building a mini-version of one of these. Not for the environment or some other bullshit, but just for the awesomeness of it.

I'd make it completely self sufficient, add a helipad just in case, and then park it in neutral waters an declare myself a sovereign state. I'll even join the UN and declare my neutrality or some shit. Maybe I'll promise the president peanuts if he'll join in a protective alliance with me or something...

C'mon, tell me that wouldn't be totally awesome.

Oh, hell yeah. We can have a competition to win foreign hearts to our side, convincing them of our side's virtue...

I also gotta remember to add torpedo shafts to those broad-side cannons I was planning. Maybe hire a mercenary airforce, with missile choppers or something.

Yeah, well, I have three guys and a rubber dingy.

If this is anything like Rambo, we'll win for sure.

Marineking

Whats a dingy? I mean, I have plenty of dinghy's in my navy, but would a dingy even float?

Well, it's simple really.

Imagine the word "Ding" shaped into an inflatable. Four of us can find into the D. The i is a weapons platform and the other two are used for storage and have a few turrets mounted on them. It's much like an APC but for the sea.

Har har, it's 2AM. Give me a break.

Invade? Just get a ton of people to jump into the water doing cannonballs, that will sink it.

But honestly, what stops these from being turned over by waves? A hurricane hits and then what, we take out the paddles and row away from it?
