Rumors are flying today that Flagship Studios, creators of Hellgate London and Mythos, founded by the creators of the Diablo franchise, and (at one point) staffed almost entirely by ex-Blizzard North employees, is soon to close due to financial difficulties. Their Korean partners/owners are said to be taking over, staff cuts are confirmed, and things look very grim.

Wrangling over their game properties and legal issues will dominate the news in the days to come, but however those matters shake out, this is a say day for the gaming community. Flagship was staffed by very talented guys (and girls) who had a dream to create great computer games. I was lucky enough to be invited to their offices for business and for pleasure, and everyone there was invariably kind and helpful to me and the other webmasters in the HGL and Mythos gaming community. Let's wish them all the best of luck in landing on their feet, and coming back with future titles as good as their past work.

Update: And it's done. We have received inside confirmation that everyone has been laid off and the studio is closing. I hate to resort to an emoticon in a news post, but...

I have to admit that the vast amount of people complaining about the art direction of Diablo 3 and praising the old team in charge of it contributed to me laughing when I heard this.

Well, I can't say I didn't see this coming.

I played hellgate (I actually still have it installed) and I have to admit, it's a pretty good game, which seems annoying rushed, far too buggy and poorly optimized which seem all to familiar of other companies games who also were unfortunately low in the coffer area.

Also the lack of LAN support was a big disappointment.
And the whole P2P for online thing, it wasn't even an mmorpg.

So... no more HGL, Mythos and Saga?

ITS A RUMOR. Seriously, if you check the Mythos forums, you will see that there has been no official word and the one from ign is a flat out lie because no one ever talked to the person they were referring to.

Hey this may be all true but right now it is a RUMOR, do not say it is confirmed because all you get is links to other links from non-official sites and those links site to more non-official sites.

Heck I don't even play their games yet I still see many automatically saying good-byes to it.
