The release date is the 21st, but that isn't the street date. The 21st is the day it is shipped from the retailers warehouse and it will be put on shelves by the 22nd. You can't even purchase on steam untill the 22nd. And if he were in a different time zone, we'd both still have the game. He would just have it at 3pm his time, and I'd have it at 5pm my time for example.
