Default Eagerly Awaiting Aion, But Is It The Game For Me?

If this is in the wrong section I apologise, but I didn't see a section for Aion, therefore I figured this would be the appropriate place to post. Anyway...

The first ever MMORPG I played was Guild Wars & I absolutely loved it, but once I'd completed the game, reached max level & done clear after clear of dungeons such as Underworld/Fissure of Woe etc I became bored of it as there really wasn't much else left to do. I guess it was no surprise really considering it was F2P. Anyway, I then decided to go a step further & subscribe to World of Warcraft, which was around 1 month before WOTLK expansion came out, so I joined at a rather late date. I then played for around 8 months & also loved it but things such as Gold Sellers, a massively childish community involving arguments near enough every time I logged on etc caused me to uninstall the game & cancel my subscription. This along with the fact that the game had been out since 2004 caused me to look elsewhere for a decent MMORPG.

A month or so later Warhammer Online had just come out, therefore I bought it & gave it a shot. I played for a few weeks & started noticing a RAPID decline in population across all EU servers. Every server I looked at said "LOW" in regards to it's population, and considering the game is based a lot on PvP the gameplay suffered immensely, therefore I ended up quitting. The next MMORPG I tried was Age of Conan, but I'm sure a lot of you have read how much AoC is suffering in regards to member population etc. Basically the same thing happened with AoC that happened in Warhammer Online, so I quit THAT aswell.

So here I am now waiting for a decent MMORPG to come out therefore I thought Aion looked pretty decent & it's supposedly meant to arrive in stores here (UK) on the 25th September 2009. The thing is, I'm worried that it may just end up like AoC and Warhammer Online where people play it for a week or so, then just quit altogether & go back to WoW etc. I'm looking for a game where near enough everybody in it is starting from scratch and we're all "noobs" so to speak, therefore as I'm levelling etc I'll have many people around my level to play with. I have two choices really, resubscribe to WoW or wait 2 months for Aion to come out & buy it, but I just don't want to waste my money if it will possibly go down the same route as AoC & WO. On the other hand, there's many OTHER MMORPGs coming out soon therefore is Aion the route to go down for me (taking into account my experience with previous MMOs) or are there other upcoming ones that will be better suited to me?

    Thanks

    1) Resub to WoW
    2) Wait until 2-3 months after Aion's release to see if it can sustain win or if it fails
    3) Decide then.

If I resubscribe to WoW, by the time Aion finally comes out I'll probably be so much back into WoW that I won't even bother trying Aion anymore, and that's not particularly what I want to happen as I've been waiting for Aion for a while now. Also, I just figured I'd post the original question as the game has been out in Korea for a while so I've heard, therefore I thought people would be able to let me know if it IS successful or not.

Well im sure the population on Aion won't be a problem, there are tons of people, and getting a group or chatting will be pretty easy, so you won't feel lonely, It's really up to you whether or not its a great game for yourself, we can't really choose for you. I personally think its a cool game, it has a great story(for the first few levels 1-15, is all i've experienced.), great combat, i like the atmosphere of the game, and the graphics. All i can say is, check out some vids, maybe test out the game, hopefully through a beta key, or pre-order.

Is Aion going to be free to play?

Buy to play (like Guild Wars)?

Or pay to play (like Wow)?

Pay to Play. Though it is looking pretty good from what I've seen.

To the OP. I'm in the same boat, wondering if it will be any good. So I've been looking around the net at any info, talking to as many people as possible. I don't know if this is any good but I found this: GameSpy's review

I'm thinking by doing some more digging, on pre-sales figures etc, it's looking like Aion might be a success - time will tell though!

Well, I'm in the same situation as the OP, the difference is that i never played a p2p before.

Aion itself seems OK, but so did WAR, remember when everybody was so like... WAR = WOW killer? and hey it's the best game evahh ? Well, it didn't happen.

Well, at least OP can play WoW, and in my situation I don't really have any p2p to join, (it's dumb to start playing wow now, FFXI seems kinda old, AoC doesn't seem to have a good population, WAR same thing, and hmm.... EVE it is just impossible to be "high level" in that game now due to it's system)

Can't really think of any others.

Oh and btw, a little off-topic but it is very important for me to know this.
A few days ago i saw a Youtube review of Aion, and the guy said something about the collectors edition had more flight time or something, and according to him, it had an advantage in pvp.
Is that right? I mean..... if I am going to play a p2p then I want equality, otherwise I would just play a f2p and get pwned by cash shoppers...

Oh, and my guess.... I think Aion will fail, nothing against the game really, it seems good, I just think it will end up like WAR.

To me, it seems if you like playing with people, you'll enjoy the game and seeing that most people will start as newbies, you'll find plenty of people at low levels.

Although, I didn't play the beta/everything that they released so far and I never touched a P2P either so it really is up to you.

There's is a main difference between Aion and WAR that people are forgetting. Aion is a completed game, WAR wasn't really that complete when it came out, and all the bugs + the situation with the BG(Forgot what they're called) kinda killed the game. Heck, the classes in WAR STILL aren't even close to being balanced.

The collector's edition isn't really that much of a benefit. You get about maybe 30 more seconds of flight time? But that will really only be apparent in the lower levels, as you level up, you get new wings(I think) and they'll increase your flight time.

My advice to you is to not let yourself get too hyped for it, but still, try it out anyway.

Didn't read the posts as I'm sure there might be a flamewar starting up, but here is my advice....follow your heart o:

No but seriously, I personally feel aion is awesome and I'm trying to scrounge up some money and stuffs for it (got a job and whatnot o just gotta wait till the end of the month then I can pay for the rest of it when it lets you for pre-orderer's lol..

Anyhow about the population thing...I'm with you there mate...beta in WAR was the best week of my life but then it released and 90% of the population dissipated into thin air...AoC I played a while but the pvp suffers badly on PvE and it's too hard to level without getting ganked constantly on pvp servers...

For Aion I would guarantee that is nothing to worry about....in china already the game has over 4 million subs, from what I understand WoW had about 5~6mil subs from china (before the whole lawsuit and whatnot)...so if you go by that you could expect Aion to have around 4~5million subs just from NA/EU...and if you don't know much about the numbers really anything over 1million from NA/EU is very good. (I believe WAR had 800k after a month or two back when there was about 3 or 4 servers with full/full)

But if your THAT worried about the population, just do what your going to do anyhow and wait about a month or two...go do BG's and whatnot until about a month after it comes out and see how well it's going.

I like the style of Aion, a bit like Lineage in my opinion. I will definiatly try it out eventhough it looks like it's Yet Another MMORPG.

Icharou - I think the main draw of Aion, is the aerial battle stuff and the flight. I'm hoping that the grind will be less on Aion, since I've read and heard it's less grindy than a lot of MMORPGs.

Anyone got an answer in that regard?

It has quite a bit of grind, but some hardcoring asians reached max lvl like after 4 days so it can't be THAT bad.

    Decent game. Worth the sub.

However, if 3rd party program and abusers bother you, you might pop a vein or two.

If the grind is on par with WoW, Aion might do fine. If it takes longer to lvl up than WoW, Aion will not be able to keep up with WoW and end up being around the lvls of AoC, War, and Lotro.

Onrpg will then ignore Aion and be hyping for ff14

I don't see whats all the hype for Aions all about, its pretty much perfect world with wings, and armor designs like lineage 2.

Its just going to end up like all the other new MMORPGs that people hype up then realize they'd rather go back to WoW.

If your debating between resubbing to wow or getting Aion then you may as well stick to wow.
It's been a general trend that people that enjoy wow do not enjoy other mmo's atleast not to the same extent as there experience with wow.
Personally wow is not enjoyable to me, but if it is to you then go ahead and stick with it.
Im a fan of the lineage series and yes playing this game reminded me of the series even if only slightly but thats good enough for me.

Just pre-order it and try it with the beta codes they give you then deicide? And according to the aion fansites you can get a refund from the preorder .
