Nod32 is a good AV for the moment along with Kaspersky. No clue about free ones though.
I'd go with a combo of Spyware S&D along with MBAM against spyware.

Spyware Terminator is a pretty good drive sweeper. Its got decent Anti-spyware/Trojan/Virus all rolled into one. The programmers frequently update the malware database too. And best of all Spy Term is Freeware. Just google it.
