To those of you who helped us beta test HoN, you may be familiar with our test client system. To those of you who didn't (or never participated in a test patch), here's your chance to help with HoN's continued development.
We have a second HoN Client available, called our Test Client. This client installs to a different directory than normal retail HoN and updates separately. On it we've got new content that is just waiting to be tested. The reason we put these changes on a test client, rather than patch it directly to the full game, is that we're trying some exciting new things that we want to really test thoroughly before putting it in the full game. We've got some reworks, some new items, some changes to the experience system (based on how experience for hero kills is awarded to reward more aggressive early game play), and a ton of crash fixes and performance optimizations. Later in the week we will even be putting a new hero onto the test client.
In order to help us test this upcoming content and give us the feedback we need to polish and balance and fix up the patch, you'll need to visit our super secret Upcoming Content forum. Do not share information from inside the forum with the outside. Our moderators will come down on anyone who does this - until we're ready to unveil the contents of the upcoming patch officially, keep all discussion on our IRC channels or in the forum itself. That said, the forum is clearly very widely accessible and anyone who wants to participate in the test may do so. We'd just rather not see discussion of the upcoming content spill out into our regular forums just yet.
Anytime this week, grab the test client and try to play some games. We encourage players to try to get on around 2pm PDT / 9pm GMT, but you can hop on and test whenever you like.
Please communicate thoughts / first impressions / etc within the upcoming content forum.

In content the patch ain't HUGE, but the changes are very significant i.e a lot of crash fixes, new experience system, significant hero skill reworks, new item, existing item reworks and etc.

- A larger incentive for ganks early
- Increase roaming viability
- Mitigate the "cost" of ganking somewhat. Gold/experience loss in the current system makes even successful doublekill ganks not worth it, even if there were zero risk and a guarantee of success. These changes still result in a loss of overall progression for the player who leaves mid to achieve a side lane gank, however the net gain for the team is now more significant than if he had stayed in the lane
- Adds to the action/eSport appeal, teams being even more on the lookout for opportunities to engage (rather than playing it safe in big money tournaments, the 'safe' route may be to remain aggressive)
And talking about the new hero. The most likely thing to be implemented is the INT contest winner. Since we had many ports in a row now would be the time for another original hero
