Review on the Tactical Battle System

Now that the new Troy patch is released in Atlantica, new changes and features have been added into the game. Let's take a look in one of the new features of the game.
The Tactical Battle System or TBS is a new gameplay feature added to Atlantica Online. Although the original turn-based party gameplay still remains, some new dungeons will implement the TBS. The gameplay has the mix of turn-based classic RPG battles and the grid movement style from strategy games, in short, it's like you're playing Final Fantasy Tactics or Disgaea but online.

The gameplay is simple and players who tried strategy based RPGs will have no trouble getting into the new gameplay. Every player's turn, they can move their characters to any area within their movement range, if there's an enemy within their range, they can attack. The difference with the original gameplay is that all of your characters can perform an action every turn. Attack range varies depending on the character, i.e. Archers have a wide attack range while Gunners have unique "line" attack range and Cannoneers cannot attack close range targets.
And if you are not into strategy based grid battles, you're in for a big surprise, unlike in the orginal gameplay of AO, your non-melee characters are open from enemy attacks and if you are not careful, you can be wiped out in just one or two turns and only melee characters can use the guard command, so you have to place your non-melee characters in a safe position away from enemies, good thing that even if your main character dies, the battle won't end until your whole party is eliminated, so it's best advice is to bring oracles and shamans into your team as they can revive dead characters by healing them.

If you manage to eliminate all of your enemies or completed all the objectives on the mission, you'll get tons of experience points and items and experience points will be distributed to your mercenaries even if they didn't particpated in battle like by attacking opponents.

There are TBS missions that require a Squad before you can participate. You can have up to two mercenaries in your team depending on the mission and there are different levels of TBS mission suitable for mid level and high level players. You can open a TBS mission at Hissarlik Hill.
If you are into single player battles, there're the TBS skirmish dungeons. These dungeons are like your typical dungeons, but the difference is that whenever you encounter an enemy, you can battle them in TBS mode. You can acces the TBS skirmish dungeons from different locations such as the Sea Palace Courtyard, Ant Tunnel, Valley of the Kings, Detroit City and many others.
The TBS is indeed a welcome addition not does it just gives the players a new kind of gameplay but also gives the game a new twist to the MMO industry.
