I just started college 3 weeks ago. You'll need a Pen & Pencil, one notebook per class for notes, one folder per class to store handouts, and your textbooks. THAT'S ALL until your professors provides you with a list of required items on the first day of class.
Screw pens they don't erase. Pencils and lots of pencil sharpeners. Match outfits in advance so you don't have to mess with it later. Jogging outfit. Like going on a long plane trip to another county. Get flue shot! Credit card. Full bank. Meal plans so you don't put on pounds in restaurants. Lots of salad meal plans. Fresh fruit. Juice. Maybe a mini frig. Reliable laptop.
Nvm, guess someone else said frig already.

I personally prefer line paper + folders/binders instead. That and I rather not waste time sharpening pencil or erasing notes. A mechanical pencil would be wiser to use if you really want to use one.
Depending on the course, some prof likes to throw random important info at random times and you have to accommodate for that. With line paper, I can rearrange the page order as much as I want later on. You often have a few courses that will give you power-slide handout online that you can print out ahead of time, and write additional notes directly onto them, which makes things a whole lot easier.
I won't be surprise if you skip one a few classes, or sleep during classes, lol.
Get use to the idea of dropping courses you're bad at before they affect your GPA since it affects how much loans you can get. Registering for courses is a pain since all the easy selective courses are often taken very quickly, or atleast the interesting ones imo.
