    Default Log Horizon

Someone said there was already a thread for this, but the only one I can find is one that is edited with no info.

The story begins when 30,000 Japanese gamers are trapped in the fantasy online game world Elder Tale. What was once a sword-and-sorcery world is now the real world. The main lead Shiroe attempts to survive with his old friend Naotsugu and the beautiful assassin Akatsuki.
Anyways, anyone else watching this? I just finished the first episode and liked it a bit. I'm not really sold on it yet, as I'm not to big of a fan of the art, and the story appears to lean a bit towards chibi/gag. However, there were enough serious elements to keep me interested.

I'm honestly getting tired of all these anime that fail to take themselves seriously. I'd like something like Log Horizon/.Hack/SAO that kept themselves 100% serious and tried to use crisp and realistic animations. It really breaks the immersion the story given me when suddenly the characters start a shouting match in the middle of a situation that should have some tension, and transform into little midgets who lack any real detail and do nothing but wave their arms. Or when someone suddenly knees another person in the face.

    Yun*chi kyaaaa~
Listen 'd to the ED over and over, looking all over for her other songs; can't wait for 11/13.

    @Log Horizon itself
1st episode pretty much the same feel as SAO's. Main heroine is of different traits now, but tbh as a long year mmogamer myself, I hate author's perspective on the "hero"es (so fake, mixing with some jello).

As for the chibi knee in the face thing ...
It is comic relief bud, what else do you want it to be:
    "
How much do you want for that potion?
    Eh? don't worry about it.
Please, I don't want to be known as a freeloader.
    Even so ...
If it matter so much, as for return, boobies ... [knee in face]
    "

Will be rated 15+ if they went serious and tense >""<
btw my own translations, RAW ftw!!

Couldn't agree more, i've never been a huge fan of the whole chibi thing, definitely wouldn't mind a 100% serious anime in that type of setting, hell it wouldn't even have to be based on a video game, anime is lacking quite a bit in the fantasy genre.

I don't count Log Horizon as like SAO or .hack for example. It actually after the first 2 episodes feels like a fair attempt at conveying the atmosphere of an MMORPG. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love SAO, but it plays out more like a Action show with RPG elements. Log Horizon thus far reminds me a lot of various MMORPG's I've played over the years.

SAO is pretty great, though it does get incredibly trippy in the later novels (reading Aliciziation now) and .Hack was interesting in itself, though hard to follow.

I'm on the fence with Log Horizon though, since it actually diverges from the action-fantasy RPG and I'm not used to it yet heh. I'm gonna stick by it some more until I acclimate myself to the differences.

Ye, i really disliked how the characters were done in Log Horizon, the first episode did not bring any interesting in the anime at all. I guess i will wait for the second episode.

    Yeah, I agree with this.

The atmosphere and setting gives off more of a mmorpg feeling. But the characters feel like they're over-acting. or trying too hard to be funny.
I think it'd be a better show if the characters had more meaning in them, because they're legit role playing right now.

I didn't enjoy Episode 3 to much. I actually found myself getting distracted by other stuff while watching. I spent at least half of the episode just listening to it rather than watching. Hoping that episode 4 will pick up, otherwise I'll probably not watch it again until the series is complete and then just skim the episodes to understand how the series unfolds.

Is there any other show that you like/got distracted with? I'm not sure if I'll continue with 4.

Outbreak Company is my favorite anime this season.

Just watched Episode 4 and I've got to say, the show redeemed itself a bit (at least for me). I watched the full episode and it held my attention. I'm looking forward to episode 5.

Log Horizon is in a 3 way tie for first spot for me alongside Outbreak Company and Machine-Doll

And I hope it stays that way and none of them fall short as they are all in very different genres
Log Horizon first good anime that translates the fealings of being trapped in a game(no disrespect to SAO and Hack but they just happened to take place in games)alwesome fights
Outbreak Company has my favourite gimmick main character is send to a new world and is confused
Machine-Doll-Serious,Fantasy,alternate realyty, and an actual storyline you cant predict after first 2 eps(unless u read manga that is)
I try to be good, but then I get bored!
    You have been warned.

Apparently there's also a manga. Read the first two chapters, seems pretty decent. The way the story in the manga is being told is a bit confusing (it jumps you in to the part where they're flying on the birds, and then does the introduction and tells you why they're traveling as a series of flash backs).

I just love how several animu is capitalizing on SAO success. Add school, ecchi and moe and you have everything that is wrong with animu nowadays in one nice package!

Things are starting to get exciting Glad we finally know where the shows name comes from :P I'm excited to see what will happen next. I'm really happy the show is turning out to be a good one, I was a bit afraid there at the start.

All the animes this season seem to be really good.

Golden time is probably my favorite, with Log horizon being my least.

Again, Log horizon is still up there on my list of animes this season, just not the best.

the wikipedia for log horizon says it has 4 mangas and a novel (some of the mangas based on other characters from the universe)

i hope that the anime's popularity will lead to fan translators picking up the manga's and the novel, the show is only planned to be 25 episodes so i don't know if it will cover everything but im excited to see the rest of it

i think the shows been getting better with every episode imo

There's already been a few chapters released of the manga based on the same story as the anime. So I'm guessing the other stories might be picked up later/after this story is complete.

I'm glad that there is only 25 episodes planned. Hopefully that means it will be packed full of story and not having any filler episodes. That's the downfall of mainstream anime that gets a shitton of episodes... a majority of it is just filler that doesn't progress the story much at all :/

It's not bad. I prefer SAO over log horizon but I still love that anime. I wasn't impressed by the first episode but now the story is getting better. I really wish there would be a sandbox MMO similar to log horizon.

This latest episode was pretty great. Progressed the story a decent amount, and I'm enjoying how this early episodes seem to be focused around one or two of the aspects of the game. This episode being money, and the fact that (either because of the Apocalypse, or because of the expansion that was released at the same time as the expansion) you can now purchase any building in the NPCs city. Past episodes having themes such as an introduction to the combat system, the fact the NPCs are now people, and how cooking now works in the game since the Apocalypse. I'm guessing he's planning to use that insane sum of gold to purchase the main palace in the town. Can't wait til next episode, to see what the "Second Phase" is. I'm not so sure it'll be the actual purchasing of the building, I'm guessing that will happen in two or three episodes.

I'm also wondering why the Twins don't just up and leave that guild. I'm wondering if the reason might be that they are being detained in the guild building for the guild they're in via the administration abilities that were introduced in this episode as well. Perhaps that's how the boy twin is being kept in line, by the fact that if he runs away, his sister will be stuck alone.

Really liking this anime because it's making me think and wonder about the mechanics/laws surrounding the game. I also like that not everything is explained to you (or, it basically is explained to you in the end, but they leave enough clues to foreshadow the reasons so you can try and figure them out yourself).
