    Default Building a new desktop

Hey guys, with Cyber Monday coming up I figure now would be one of the better times to buy parts. A friend recommended this guide: http://www.hardware-revolution.com/b...november-2013/ so yesterday I went through it and pretty much went with the Tier 5 specs. Can you guys take a look at the parts I've chosen below and tell me what you think? The total price currently comes out at around $1000, but the prices might drop a bit more once Monday comes around.

    Motherboard $90
Tier 5-7: GIGABYTE GA-Z87M-D3H 1.0 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

    CPU $200
    Tier 5-7: Intel Core i5-4670K Haswell 3.4GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core

Video Card $310 or $370 for the second
    Tier 5-7: MSI R9 280X GAMING 3G Radeon R9 280X 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0
    I'm also thinking of: GIGABYTE GV-N770OC-4GD GeForce GTX 770 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0

    Power $100
Tier 5: Rosewill 650W 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Power Supply CAPSTONE-650-M

RAM $75 (my friend said I shouldn't get the 2133 MHZ RAM)
    Tier 3-4: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4G 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Storage $160 (also thinking of getting a smaller SSD so I can get a 1 TB HDD along with it)
Tier 6-7: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive

    Case $80
    Tier 3-4: Corsair Obsidian Series 350D CC-9011028-WW

The 770 is a tad faster than the 280X.
You WILL need a normal HDD or you will run out of space and/or ruin your SSD prematurely (though they're getting better by the day).
PSU... Rosewill PSUs has a stigma attached to them. You might want to look for another PSU.

    The rest looks fine.

Thanks for the input. What stigma do they have? This particular PSU has good reviews on both Amazon and Newgg (4/5), and on Newegg it has some award too.

Most of Rosewill PSUs are known for being cheap and fairly unreliable (thus taking your whole PC with it when it dies). The Newegg reviews are especially to not be trusted as Rosewill's Newegg's own brand.

Brands like Corsair, XFX, Coolermaster, Seasonic etc are all of higher quality in general.

Fair enough. Think this will be fine then?

    That's a good one.

Keep an eye out for this one. It's gold certified and with a bit of luck, it'll drop below 100USD on monday.

Sounds good I'll check it out this week. Thanks for all the help.
