    hmm.. what does 100 year old egg (Century Egg) taste like?

    hmm.. it's pretty disgusting the 1st time round..
    i never eat it on its own.
    i always have it with a mouthful of rice and try to include some other tasty meat or egg piece in the spoonful with it (for umame taste).
    so the umame + starchy rice taste goes with the really strong earth sandy sort of burnt-copper taste of the century egg. the century egg yolk is like eating charcoal tangy fine sand. the white of the century egg, which has turned into a sort of coffee coloured jelly tastes almost like a bland jelly with a sort of dead meat taste. yea, if i eat century egg on its on, the aftertaste is like eating rotting meat.

    so.. if i chew my spoonful of century egg, rice and umame flavour, i get this nice unique tasting mix of flavours lifted a bit into a pungent yummy hyper-umame sort of flavour. but i have to chew and swallow fast to make sure the dead-corpse aftertaste doesn't emerge too much. Or else I could gag.

    yea.. fun thing to eat :-D

    ( i dont eat it very often, but the century egg is meant to be full of mineral nutrients )

    I always eat century egg alone without anything else because I love its flavor. I just think rice takes away it's flavor. I should probably try it with rice with it one day though since my girlfriend eats it like that + tofu.

    In case anyone is wondering, it's not really eggs that are 100 year olds. Just few months good o' preserved duck eggs.

    Rice and tofu are awesome because they take of the flavor of whatever else you're eating with them. So, one bite of food + a mouthful of rice = essentially a mouthful of whatever the bite was. Of course, I guess it can also delude intense flavors a bit.
