I clean like a maniac. My house, the floors, windows, myself, tabletops, etc. That really helps. Then I cook. Make dinner or bake cookies, but find a new recipe that uses ingredients you already have so you waste some time looking that up. I take my dog for a walk.
Then I sit down and cry because its only been 4 hours.

Also - movie marathon maybe? When I get sick I sit down and try to watch all the Harry Potter or LOTR movies.
I agree with Oisterboy - clean your house/room super well. That way when you sit down to mess with your new machine everything will be nice and neat around you. When I have days off and I'm going to do some hardcore gaming I clean my entire apartment and set everything up the way I want it to be.
Once you got that major cleaning done you've just the minor regular cleaning.
But yeah, time is a complete troll. It goes faster when you feel the need for more time and goes slower when you've got nothing for it.
