Default Your favorite movie(s) of the year! 2013 Edition

Hi OnRPG. The year is almost over and and with it, another good chunk of our lives! So, why don't we enrich each-others lives by sharing what new movies we've enjoyed over the past year. We'll do it simple. Just give a brief blurb about what the movie is and why you enjoy it, trailers optional! Simple and easy. I'll even start, just to help break the ice.

    Pacific Rim

A bunch of giant mechs punch the shit out of a bunch of giant extra-dimensional aliens. Also there's this really weird underlying theme about things working in pairs. Like shoes.

    http://youtu.be/5guMumPFBag

    The Conjuring

Supposedly based on true events, this movie plays out very much like Amityville Horror. Plenty of scares and a terrific atmosphere.

    The Hobbit

Hobbits find Smaug yada yada yada

    The Escape Plan

Silver Stallone meets Schwarzenegger in Prison and break out together

    Meet the Millers

Guys deals drugs, gets in trouble, needs to move cocaine from Mexico and the kid gets bitten in his ball by a tarantula

Don't think I've seen any other big movies this year.

    Oblivion

Nice post-apocalyptic sci fi with laz0rs, scary little drones and nifty story twists, probably the only film this year that really entertained me.

Prisoners for sure. Kickass mystery thriller. Super dark and suspenseful. Great story, great acting. I watched it twice in one day.

Well I've seen most of the big movie besides the new Hobbit and couple others. They were good and all but I was always left with the feeling "eh, it was good" with no lasting emotions from the movie or anything.

I would pick We're the Millers and Man of Steel since I enjoyed them the most.
Although Hobbit and maybe Gravity would be there if I had seen those movies. It's so hard find a good movie which just draws me in and makes me sob or cheer so much that I am jumping with joy or excitement.

I must express my disappointment with that film. I thought it was slow, dull and that ending just made me hate it more.

    K i done.

I've been to the theatres a lot this year...

Hands down, this is the best out of the ones I've seen:

I saw the director's cut in theatres and everyone was speechless at the end of the screening.

    Others:
    Spring Breakers
    La vie d'Adèle
    L'iconnu du lac
    Like Someone in Love
    Before Midnight
    Le passé
    Camille Claudel, 1915
    Les salauds
    To The Wonder
    Leviathan

I really want to see A Touch of Sin too... (Probably won't see it until 2014)

I liked these in the mainstream theatre:
    12 Years a Slave
    Gravity
    Pacific Rim
    Prisoners
    Dallas Buyers Club
    The Hobbit

Captain Philips, Pacific Rim, the Conjuring, Oblivion, and Man of Steel are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

I've been meaning to watch The Act of Killing for a while. I'm kind of scared to though, to be honest.

    Pacific Rim for me.

I'm really looking forward to the coming Pac Rim 2, and even more giant robot hollywood films (Robotech etc etc etc)
Be warned - I am a major player of Regnum Online the mmo. I've been playing it for about 2 years and rarely go without logging in at least once a day. You can also look at good alternatives to Regnum such ase Aion online and Aika Online.

Honestly, I don't really know how to put it into words because I've heard plenty of people react differently. It can be described as being pretty paradoxical, I guess.

"I have not seen a film as powerful, surreal, and frightening in at least a decade... it is unprecedented in the history of cinema." - Werner Herzog

    It's a real eye-opener.

    Pacific Rim?

That whole movie was a huge disappointment, I can get by the cheesy story line, and the incredible CGI scenes, but the cast was horrible.

Charlie Hunnam, can not act. He was such a horrible lead.
Charlie Day, was really annoying the entire film.
I'm ashamed of Idris Elba, and Ron Perlman taking part in this crap film.

I was really disappointed in Guillermo del Toro, it's too bad he's moving in this direction.

    Best Comedy?
    Anchorman 2

Thor? This was a bad movie. The Marvel name carried it.

    The Mortal Instruments

I can't recall what other movies I've watched in 2013, but I just watched this one yesterday and it was pretty amazing. I was expecting it to be poop, but I was so wrong. You know a movie is good when there are legit badass scary parts, and it's not even meant to be a scary movie.

Yes, it's a pretty brilliant movie. It embraces and subverts all of the most trash modern aesthetics and makes a really brilliant satire on today's society.

Other stuff I adore from the movie is the use of those vivid colors and it has one of the best heist scenes I've seen.
