    Default OnRPG Forum Dying?

So, the forum/community is mostly dead.
The only section that is moderately active is The Lounge.
And all that's really left here is a handful of oldies that have stuck around since the place was booming.
A few new people show up from time to time but even fewer stay.

    What happened?
    Over-saturation of MMO Forums?
Has social media(facebook, twitter, tumblr...) replaced the niche?

I personally don't know the cause but it sucks.
My original account was made in 08-09 and even then this place was like a very active chat room.
Now discussions are slow. Non-general(lounge) topics such a graphics, development, general gaming, anime... are lucky to get any interest.

I'd say even half of active members here don't play any MMOS lol.

I still actively play PC games. Although I have shifted more to the "you get what you pay for" mindset. Meaning I avoid most free to play games and as a result most new MMOs.

Solutions? Get more people active. If we could convert some of the lurkers to participating members it would stimulate some activity.
If there are more active topics more people would stick around I think.

Quite the circle, isnt it eh?

active topics require more people, you can get more people by getting more active topics.

I feel like I am very much a contributor to the problem. I'm a big lurker and can't help it, but I make more of an effort these days. I don't know whether I've gotten older or changed or the general theme of discussion in the general forum has changed, but I have a hard time relating to the topics being discussed a lot of the time.

I was here since the old forums and I barely made the 2k post mark. Duby joined since 2012 and is about to pass me.

Needs less people like me, and more people like duby.

Th Lounge is just my homepage pretty much. Checking this section of the forums is just like breathing to me, don't even think about it. I guess I'll be here until it's just me and the Dubz.

I blame the NSA. Scrap that.

Seriously though, people have found bigger ponds to piss in like fb (when it was the new shit) and reddit.

I only posted in the MMO requests sub-section, and then migrated to general discussion, and then migrated to The Lounge. So it's been like the same level of activity all along as each sub-section decreased in postivity!

Could've sworn I saw this thread last year...
I swear this forum was more popular this year then last.
Last year it was a ghost town at certain times of day, the only time I remember that this was big.
Was when GW2 came out and err one lost their shits. Other then that was pretty mellow around here.

I think most people have out grown mmo? Not in bad way, just a lot don't have the time any more. With work/family/hobbies taking up most of the free time. MMO's need ALOT of time to actually get anywhere.
For me it's like 'shall I spent a few minutes trying out a mmo or load up skyrim' Same goes for Onrpg, no point visting a MMO forum when you hardly play MMO's anymore

Compared to how it was years ago, yeah this forum is dead. A big part of it is because:

    - People are playing a specific game and communicate in game, chat servers or other venues.
    - Most people are experienced now and MMOs have gotten a lot simpler (I can't remember the last time I've actually had to plan out/write a skill/stat build or leveling guide) so there's no real reason to talk about MMOs unless you are critiquing.
    - Most people don't really like to get into discussions anymore because it really just turns into arguments over stupid stuff. Even I've kinda gotten tired of it.
    - We don't even attempt to make "official" OnRPG guilds anymore because despite everyone being exceptional leaders that run the own guilds their way, none of us can seem to find a way to work together.
    - This isn't the only or even one of the best places to gather information on games anymore. And it used to be.
    - The amount of games, and good ones at that, have significantly declined in number.

Sure, some people simply lost interest in MMOs or are too busy to play, but a large number of people aren't and that shouldn't be a reason why newer members are coming in far less than they were before.
Be careful of what you say, tomorrow or today, for the words you now speak, may become the poison your enemies later seek; truth.

World of Warcraft set a standard that is way too high to beat. All of the other MMORPGs are pretty weak in comparison. There has been some potential games but they all fall short ultimately...

Most of the people have turned to these MOBAs which don't not attract me at all.
