Duno, when I look at GW2 it's mainly different in a bad way.

    Stay frosty.

In my opinion, we just need more TRUE sandbox games. Give people the choice to do what they want and be rewarded from it. If people want to be a traveling merchant let them..but let other players also have the option to take their stuff.

Risk and Reward is what we need. It's become way to easy and most MMO's released lately have been mainly focused on combat classes. We need to feel like were in the game and doing what we want, not doing the same thing everyone else is.

There has been a steady decline on the forums ever since replying with images became cool.

Don't really think its dead. Sure, there's not hundreds of random people posting "Tell me what game to play" threads nowadays (maybe 10 or so a week now), but we've got a decent core of regulars. Some of them focus on the Lounge, some on the MMORPG section, and some both. However, it's still active and you can usually get a lot of replies in a decent amount of time to any type of thread you create (almost). Too be honest, I'm more than happy with the community we have on OnRPG atm.

New blood is always nice, but at the same time, it's reassuring to know that we have a solid community that is (almost) completely free of trolls, haters, and idiots. I'd be pretty damn pissed if I was stuck with MMORPG . com to discuss games, as it's basically a haven for the hateful and vile portion of the MMORPG community. You're lucky if you can discuss a game there without tens of trolls coming down and bashing the game for no other reason than to piss you off.

Perhaps in 2014 we'll see a slight resurgence in population. Mostly for ESO, ArcheAge, Everquest Next, Repopulation, etc... as those games are put into beta and are released. There's a lot of good/decent games that will either enter into closed/open beta, or will be released, in 2014. That means a lot of people are going to be looking for places to find information (or discuss) the games. New people and veterans of the community alike.

I've participated in forums that survived with just six people. Sure, there was usually only a few post a week, but it was still alive. And as long as a forum is still alive, there's always a chance for growth. As Dizzy said, a large part of the problem was due to technical issues and the state of the industry in 2013. I have good hopes for 2014. I'm pretty sure we wont magically become as popular as we were in 2006-2010 or so, but I'm sure we'll start seeing new faces again.
