Default Planetside 2 will also drop support for the 32 bit PC systems

    http://www.mmobomb.com/news/offloadi...r-32-bit-oses/

If there’s one thing SOE’s president John Smedley likes to do, it’s dropping vast amounts of tantalizing -and sometimes cryptic- update tidbits through Twitter concerning all the developers’ latest endeavors. This time, Smedley’s could barely wait a whole day before informing everyone that SOE had just decided to move Planetside 2 to 64 bit completely.

64 bit operating systems have been in widespread use for quite some time now, but many programs still run in 32 bit and PC manufacturers have had a tendency in the past to use 32 bit operating systems in lower end PCs. However, it seems as though the era of 32 bit is finally coming to a close, at least in the gaming sector. According to a Steam Hardware Survey taken this January, 78% of Steam users utilize a 64 bit operating system. Smedley reaffirmed this conclusion when he later revealed only 6% of Planetside 2 players were actually playing on a 32 bit operating system.

When asked whether the move to 64 bit would increase Planetside 2′s performance, Smedley replied by stating that since 64 bit allows you to use more memory, in theory it would perform better although Smedley did not want to promise anything until the team had tested the changes. In fact, Smedley says it would actually fix the MMOFPS number one crash, which is when the game runs out of usable memory.

No word as to when SOE plans to drop support officially, but if you enjoy Planetside 2 and for some reason still don’t have a 64 bit OS, it may be time to join the other 78% and soon.

Interesting, but also not too surprising. We've pretty much hit the limit on what we can achieve with 32-bit operating systems. Time to move on up.

heaps of players still use 32 bit and on even older OSes than win7.

many older mmorpgs have active player populations: Supreme Destiny, Mu Online (huge playerbase), even Wakfu and Villagers & Heroes. None of these need a 32 bit system's power and they still have strong enthusiastic playerbases.

So unless that extra memory is used for some awesome dynamic ingame AI, then i hope 64 bit stays away.
Be warned - I am a major player of Regnum Online the mmo. I've been playing it for about 2 years and rarely go without logging in at least once a day. You can also look at good alternatives to Regnum such ase Aion online and Aika Online.

Good, you can upgrade your current OS to 64 bit for free as long as you have the key

and not having to worry about 32 bit OS means the game can be more optimized for people who have a halfway decent computer (8 (2 x 4 GB )GB's is like 40$) and the cheapest part of a PC

AI? Have you ever played Planetside 2?

btw, these games are old. The people playing the games you have listed they will never play a game like planetside 2.
yeah, I know, tons of grammar errors. Sorry :-(
