Default In Exactly 1 month, Diablo 3 Auction House will be removed

So in exactly 1 month from now March 18, 2014 AH will be removed in-game. So the question is what will gonna happen when Both Gold and real money auction house got removed?

I could care less about the auction , if only the release of the expansion came sooner ...

    "slightly" lol
but even without the "legit" auction house real money trades still exist. There is playerauctions and ebay or other sites

So they illegitimize legal real money trading, and then they illegitimize in-game item trading, and now the only way to get good items is through black market. Gosh.

Unfortunately for Diablo 3, this is only ONE of the major problems the game has. Unless they give us INTERESTING and MEANINGFUL character progression that allows us to be invested in our character, the game will go the way of the first iteration of Diablo 3. Inferno was hard yes, but it wasn't because it was hard that people quit. People quit because the only meaningful way to progress was gear. Once you hit the wall in Inferno and realized you needed a LOT more gear to get through it, all you could do is farm. Paragon levels had benefits sure, but it was not interesting enough for people to care.

I hope the expansion proves me wrong because I would love a reason to hop back into Diablo 3. However, from what I have seen and played so far, it seems to be more of the same. The easier access to better gear will make it last a bit longer (maybe, I have doubts about this too), but the itemization on the new gear is so ridiculously boring. Again, I hope I am wrong.

I'm not going to bother organizing my thoughts too much but...

Real Money Trading(RMT) can have a severe, negative impact on games. Games that are grind oriented, like Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft, are often effected the worst.

First and foremost it can trade longevity for quick sales. Players get what they want and have no reason to play.

It can cause in game economy to be unstable and easy to exploit.

Even players who do not wish to partake in RMT can be effected. It cheapens their experience. They just don't see the point in working HOURS to progress when the same thing can be achieved for a few dollars.

Im guessing everyone but seya didnt play the RoS beta? all gear becomes account bound unless found in a game with other people then you can only trade to those people in your party at the time of the drop for a little bit of time 2hours iirc. I honestly think removing auction house will hurt more than having it in unless they remove the account bound but then we'll be back to people complaining about selling gear in a non competitive game until they add ladders which may be what account bound will be used for.

I'm really looking forward to RoS, with no doubt the game will be fun. However, my main concern lies with the longevity and lack of endgame...also BoA on everything is disappointing. Companies really need to learn that hurting players because of botters isn't how to go about fixing the issue.

Edit: Also I wish i had your battletags :^), need ppl to play with lol

The AH was never the core problem for D3, that's just missing the forest for the trees. The AH was a good system, it shortcut the need to sit in chat for hours on end spamming WTT X for Y. The problem was that the game was balanced around the AH, drop rates were set low because it was assumed you would be using the AH, it became part of the progression you were expected to use and that was what caused so much trouble.

Now we've lost virtually all trading. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this whole BoP thing that's going to happen, we'll see how it turns out I guess. I'm still going to get the expansion, I did have fun with D3 and I hope to continue having fun. The test realm has been a blast to play and I hope it's a sign of things to come for the game, or at least a step in the right direction.

I still have mixed feeling regarding RoS. Been lurking on D3 forums every now and then. Not so sure what to think of it.

Regardless, i have pre-ordered and cant wait for it.

I haven't played D3 in a couple years, but wasn't Blizzard making money from the RM AH? Taking a percentage of the sales and whatnot.

I only played D3 for 10-11 days. I was farming Inferno Act II with my Wizard by then. The game is done, done as is they never did rollbacks or took care of all the exploits that plagued it. Through a simple exploit people were wielding dual 2H weapons for almost a year and even when they fixed it, they only prevented new players from using it, but rest remained with dual 2H until they decided to unequip wpns.

The gold dupe thing was the nail in the coffin, fortunately I got the game for free thx to the annual WOW pass promo so I didn't burn myself. The AH is least I'm concerned about...

There will still be a trading community outside D3. Just like D2 had. Difference is there are now people with billions of gold. That is still worth something, unlike in D2 where gold had little to no value. Someone said AH wasnt the core problem. That actually was exactly the core problem. You spend more time on the AH min/maxing then actually playing the game. Even if you would increase droprates, AH would still be a problem. You cant compare it with a real mmo where an AH kinda works.

Actually there will be no trading community at all. All crafting items, gems, gold, and legendary items are Bind on Pickup now. The only thing with any value that can still be traded is rare items and, potentially, specific white items since they are needed for legendary crafting.

The AH wasn't honestly that big a deal though, the problem is the drop rates basically demanded that you had to play the AH to progress. If the drop rates had been reasonable then most people wouldn't have cared about the AH, the problem was that the AH was mandatory instead of optional.

I'd say the only problems Diablo 3 had were with the customization element. Weapons were the most important piece of gear, and the DPS was pretty much the only important stat. None of the gear is the game could be used to build your character around. Gear was basically just a direct upgrade of what you had before. Skills were very basic and the game really needs a skill tree. Not allowing players to allocate skill points is very dumb, sure even if people still followed the same build the freedom isn't there. Players couldn't say I'm going to pump strength as a mage because I found a staff that gives me this sweet ability that uses a percentage of my strength as magic damage. Those things just didn't exist and it forced the game to be very bland.

Exactly. Build diversity and items that change your build's strength and mechanics is where your "strength" should come from, not sheet DPS. No build diversity in a game can really cause it to become VERY dull for me. However, they are fixing this issue big time with RoS (thank u god) lol
