Remember when you didn't have to feel like a douchebag for using this word? Remember when it meant "freebies"? Like some stuff you got at a fair or convention with logos on it, but it was free and is pretty cool so you definitely still wanted it?
I do. And I hate not being able to use it now because people immediately think of derpy asshats who've ruined perfectly good words.
Swag is actually a form of the word swagger. Which means to walk or behave confidently. The earliest recorded use of the word swagger was in 1596. Swag, the first definition in the webster dictionary, means to sway. Funnily enough swag's first recorded use wasn't until the year 1660. Which means that the word swag actually came from the word swagger and not the opposite. Swag's second definition is is actually goods (or loot) that is acquired through unlawful means, eg. theft. SWAG (Stuff We All Get) didn't actually come about until the late 1970s. So swag is actually just going back to one of it's original definitions which is to sway with confidence.
