I agree with this. I think that, in an MMORPG, there are only so many ways you can try to innovate combat and still have a playable game. There are always going to be some similarities between combat systems in MMORPGs because that's just the nature of the genre. "Generic" seems like a buzzword that people on the counter-culture side of game releases love to throw around.

I would have loved to try this game, but I don't think my laptop could handle it; perhaps this summer I'll have built a decent enough rig and if it's still going, I might give it a shot for a month and see if I like it. I hear a lot of common things from people who have tried it: character creation is a little shallow (it is in GW2, too! Or at least I thought so...), people don't like the race-locked classes, the art style is kind of in-your-face quirky which detracts from ambiance and tone, people say the classes themselves don't 'connect' with them if that makes sense (like, think of Wow. If you're a hunter, it's part of your in-game identity. You and that blue porcupine have been through a lot together, after all), the combined elements of story, ambiance and environment don't portray a sense of grandness or an impending struggle, there isn't much of an RP community (again, this is what I have been told! I have no idea)...I could go on.

I can say one thing though. Looking at videos/screencaptures of this game make me think it was conceived of mostly by looking at raw market statistics. But it's unfair for me to make judgments like this because I haven't physically played it myself, just seen some footage of it.

If anything, if/when I do play it, I will so appreciate the wardrobe system. I adore this in RIFT; even with that game's somewhat limited number of armor sets, it adds so much possibility.

I dunno maybe because, after over a decade, you'd think we might have moved forward from such things? That's just me, i mean i expect progress in things, not going backwards ten years to an aspect of games which is roundly disliked by dang well everyone...

I'm not agreeing with the race locked class aspect, I think TESO also does this or does it with factions I'm not sure, but I think it has to do with the design of the character itself. The rat looking class is a bit too small to be running around with giant broadswords and it's probably the same reason why the nature loving class does not use guns.

Kind of a shame since I wanted a dualgun bunny girl.

race lock is only in place BECAUSE THE ANIMATIONS TAKE TIME(if you haven't realized, every race has UNIQUE animations FOR EACH CLASS) lol
they will eventually have no race restriction for classes

That's a very optimistic view on a lazy bit of game design. Yeah, they'll make animations, like the other games with gender-locked classes did. Oh wait, they didn't. Lets take Lineage 2 for an example again. Eleven years, still no animations for other genders for gender locked classes, hummm...

there's been an official statement that animations are indeed coming.
    so calm your vagina, please.

the thing is, there's not just an offensive/defensive animation like in wow, but a lot of spells have their own animation.

Yes, lets spend another couple of months working on the giving races all the same amount of classes, screw lore as well.
Also, Lineage had at most 6 combat animations per class. when you used a fire ball you saw the mage do the same thing as an ice ball. Remember these are just examples before everyone starts shooting arrows at me.

I found it funny that some people here saying that the grind is that bad but its clearly
a fair grind and definitley fine. People who said that are clearley people from the new generation
who never played the old stuff and just know games like WoW, Gw2 and so on.
Seriousley..to say that this game is grindy is just stupid and some people pointed out
that the graphic is too cartoony..well you know WoW? No one cared about the cartoon style
and it was really impressive (when it was new). The art style of wildstar is unique and its by far
better than WoW's graphic + it fits totaly fine to this new universe.

Just to point this out..I am not a fanboy of this game. Enjoyed it yeah but I am more
into other games right now. But this game is not a bad one. Thats a fact and people
who cant see this are blind.

ah I forgot to mention that the p2p system is well made cause it has a free to play option
(after you get some stuff..takes you not so much time) If you do the right things you can
keep up playing for free so its not a hard p2p game. Some people here were flaming about
the p2p "this game will be f2p in no time"...perhaps this will happen perhaps not cause
this credit system will allow you to play free if you dot it right. People should think about
    their comments...

You can defend race/class restrictions to some extent, like if it's lore related or something. Like a "force of good" holy elf race not being able to use an evil blood magic class. But there's literally 6 classes. What good reason is there that the Aurin can't use a freakin' sword or be a healer?

Not that it matters because the game is awful anyway.

$60 box and $15 a month... *snort, chortle* it would be dead in under ~6 months even if it was F2P.

You apparently didnt read holic's post mentioning that the classes will be available once all the animations are done.

Yeah, "some day". Not at launch or anytime soon after launch. The game will be long dead before then.

It is pretty silly that classes are racelocked, especially when there aren't lore reasons. Even lore reasons are kind of stupid sometimes unless they're biologically related. Like, think of an Elder Scrolls game—it'd be dumb if you couldn't play a magic-using Redguard just because Redguard society frowns on magic and it's usually not the **most* advantageous given their base stats/race skills. There've got to be some rebels out there.

I don't really get why, with only six classes, they haven't already finished all the animations...it just seems like a game that is advertising itself as high-caliber, has a high-caliber (for most people) price and a presumably large budget would have this locked down by now.

That pricetag is unholy. :< But I guess it's worth it for some people.

I love the atmosphere and the humor this game has. Didn't hold my attention long enough to keep playing tho. Mainly because I'm pretty much done with open world MMORPGs for a while. Only action games and room based games for me.
    Relax and enjoy life

Price tag is pretty terrible, I'll give that. But why does it even matter if it's race-locked, I mean damn. This is just nit picking, so many different games are race locked. You decide to pick on Wildstar, Why? Is race-lock any worst then gender lock? Dragon nest and Aika are worst, trust me.

I don't wanna see what you vultures will be like when B&S comes out. I kind of wanna try WildStar now, I hope I get another key...

I honestly don't understand the whole problem with class restrictions to certain races. I play WoW and have been for years, so I guess I'm used to it.

Also, on WoW, you only get like 2 offensive abilities for the first 10 levels. An example would be Priest. Smite & Shadow Word: Pain. Imagine spamming those 2 abilities for 10 levels. But by the time you hit 90, you'll have 234908123049810241902381 skills at your disposal and the majority of them just add clutter to your UI and is useless.

Tbh, since this isn't a thread about those games, there is no reason for them to bring up those games as they have no relevance to the topic.

The digression of an onrpg'r I apologize.

Going back to the original topic, I'm thinking about preordering the game. And if I don't like it, meh.

some way. You can dislike a game but to say that a game is bad just because you dislike a game is a different story.Just keep in mind. This game is actually good. Its not impressive but its good and thats a fact. If you dislike this game or not.
    It doesnt matter.
