Also, remember the last time a good game tried to revamp its systems to be more "modern"? Think back to Star Wars Galaxies and the NGE. A giant ridiculous disaster that destroyed the game. It's like people forgot about that. Changing the entire game fundamentally serves no purpose other than to alienate your entire playerbase in a vain attempt to please the vocal minority who scream how outdated the game is.
I think only one person said that the game should have action combat.
When I speak of modernizing I mean something a little less drastic.
Like bringing WoW's controls/combat up to par with other games that use the tab target system.
ArcheAge for example is based on the same system WoW uses but it's evolved for about 10 years, which in the tech world is a veeery long time.
I'm not sure what modernization the combat system needs. WoW's combat system has largely been lauded as one of the tightest, most fluid systems out there. People feel in control of their character. Compare that to similar but flashier systems of combat like SWTOR where players complain about being locked in animations and not being in control of their character. Hell, I'm playing ESO now and the combat there is janky as hell compared to WoW's.
It is ONE of the best P2P MMORPGs you cannot deny that. Denying that would be foolish. I'm not saying it is THE best, but one of them.
It has surpassed all of the "WoWkillers" without taking much of a hit subscriber wise. They are losing speed I'll give you that, but they still have enough momentum to continue on. And I'm pretty sure they are still making more than enough money to covers their expenses.
I would even bet on the fact that they are probably making more money than what they are spending and that the game is in NET PROFIT.
Eve Online is also very good but it serves a different playerbase, same as DarkFall.
Wildstar and TESO are the next "WoWkillers" and I highly doubt they will make much of a dent in their numbers.
I don't think it has anything to do with the games themselves. I think it has more to do with games like DAoC / WoW / EQ (in the prime days) felt so polished and well thought out (to some extent) that paying for any MMORPG that came out as P2P (Looking at you TERA / SWTOR / LOTRO / AION / etc) without the same amount of commitment and polish was wrong. Players felt cheated to pay monthly for some "lesser game that isn't X" and would much rather continue to play X game even with all it's flaws.
The market has evolved, people play F2P games now. P2P is a thing of the past. And once Eve and WoW either go F2P or close down, P2P games will no longer exist, and no game company will make one.
My 20 dollars :P
The title of this thread made me laugh. :P
The games are starting to catch up a bit though, FFXIV is still not as fluid but feels alright, Tera feels pretty good, maybe a bit weird when you're a caster, GW2 was well built, but the kind of content simply does not appeal to me.
Though it's important to note, as a wow player, I don't see how they could improve the ''gameplay'' it probably has the best gameplay out of all the mmos I played (I'm not a fan of ''action'' mmos so far except MH online), they're currently working on reducing the button bloat a bit, which could also help.
The models are not the most important thing either to me, what will decide if I play this expack or not is the content, the content is what people want.

I've played it and didn't really like it, not saying the game is bad, I didn't like it !
It is P2P worthy, i'll give you that.
I personnaly wouldn't mind getting a sub if some good MMORPG came out, but as far as I'm concerned I'd rather play single player games or lan RPGs (Borderlands and the gang). So yeah it might be a joke but you just have to look and the people complaining that such and such game is not F2P because as a P2P it is garbage, and then they complain that it's too P2W.
I don't mind paying for a game subscription. As far as I'm concerned, recent P2P games that got released are subpar to WoW / Eve / FF and the likes, and that's the reason why I won't pay for a sub. But then I don't complain that I don't have an MMO to play.

Now with level 100! and ability to reach level 90 in a instant! boring ideas that don't help or attract new game play just make the game far too simple. Wildstar is the new cartoon mmo.
P.S: I liked wildstar but i don't think it will last.
Everyone has one .... opinion that is ....
"A niche market is the subset of the market on which a specific product is focusing."
And I never said I didn't like it because it was a "niche market" game.
I canīt say much about this game beucse I hated it ever sense it came out played 1month and hated it ever sense sure I tested it again with this free to level 20 but I still hate it. To be honest WoW needs to die not becuse that I hate the game more if it need to die and Blizzard need to make a new mmo ah more up to date with action combat sustem instead of the boring combat system WoW has to be honest GW2, Tera, Vindictus and now ESO has so much more fun combat system than the old point klick and go take a coffee break combat system has.
When I see people saying that Tera had better combat than WoW it makes me facepalm so hard pls stop
Tera dose however keep you involved in combat, in wow you press 1 button and go sleep.
Nano.. Nano.. Nano..

I thought a niche was a very specific often unique, sometimes unpopular subset to a market.
Like Spiderbabe filled the niche subset for superheros in the adult film market.
