Default Gaming is not a Hobby but rather a Illness?

Oh boy i think i know where this will go but i want to hear a lot of opinions so here goes...

Most of the people nowadays and back when i or many more were growing up were all the time told that gaming is not a hobby and its bad for your health and other similar things...

But what is a hobby? something like photography? or sports? or painting ? or singing ? or maybe playing a guitar or something? , reading books? isn't the concept the same? you still give your time up for doing something you like so why gaming can't be a hobby ? and must be treated as some kind of illness ? I mean back in the day atleast i grew up gaming on all kind of platforms and etc i am still young and there are people even older that gamed i was getting treated as some idiot for gaming by others that were going out and drinking ... i was treated as some sick person by my parents because i wanted to game and sit at home rather than go out and play ...

I mean what is the difference between gaming and other hobbies? why are they treated so differently? back in the day and now...

Idk if i managed to make some sense but oh well ... Derp.

Gaming is a hobby. It's only treated differently when the hobby becomes an addiction.

The older generation probably doesn't understand why you would want to sit in and game rather than go out and so******e, that's a strange new concept for them. But it's becoming the norm, you'll probably be telling the next generation that it's okay and completely normal to sit in and game til your eyeballs fall out.

So, yea, well, you going to get told to get out more no matter what, if it's stamp collection, fixing up a vintage car, collecting coins, minerals, foils, spending all your time reading up on the history of the white lipped snail, or w/e else.

The point is, that people don't know moderation and especially kids do not. They don't to the point that they will die if no adult takes care of them.

You still haven't found that out? It's not wrong to listen to peeps some time and just try w/e they are offering. You don't want to end up duby (no offence dubs). For many people, those that make fun of them and those who care go away and they are often replaced with nothing.

In the end though, do w/e you want, just don't do it mindlessly.

Well the only thing that changed from when i was a kid and lived with my parents and now when i work and live on my own is that i don't take remarks toward my gaming addiction or hobby as serious as i used to take it really i try to do other stuff to but i still return to gaming and i don't think i will ever be able to discard this thing from my life since i grew up with it.

Still it is strange how people look at it and they make their kids do something they maybe won't even like doing its like pushing something they could not do themselves...

Moderation is the what keeps hobbies from becoming illnesses.

The one thing I found out in my life is that people spend 90% of their time overreacting. Humans are chaotic. They balance it out by swinging into opposite direction of overreacting like a pendulum.

Most people never try to find their inner calm and maybe it's not important to do so. Still there is a balance point around which we circle. To see with clarity and gain understanding about something, means to be able to see that point of balance.
Good or bad is not black and white. Black and white is an evil way of seeing things.

    Stay frosty.

When i was younger i spent all day on video games. so times all night as well.Gameing can be a hobby but as like every one else said can aslo be a addiction. Ive got to where i dont play many games any more. I still enjoy them but something inside me in sorta tired of them. Dont take it wrong though i still sit in front of pc most of the day. Since right now i dont really have much to do. But there really is not any thing i wanna do. I dont see nothing wrong with video games. And to those people who say people do violent act because of violent games they are wrong. There is violence all around us. Hell the music i listen to if they got they hands on it they would probably try to ban it. Any ways im sure you gonna hate my reply since you hate me and i make you sick. but no worries

"I'm not addicted, I'm just hardcore."

I'm quoting TotalBiscuit here: "A casual gamer is someone who schedules the game around their life, while a hardcore gamer schedules their life around the game."

Yeah, that's when it becomes an illness, in my opinion.

Games, like most things, are defined by the user.
If you have some type of mental impairment that results in unhealthy behavior, that's on you.

It's kind of like a person who has severe shellfish allergies eating at Red Lobster. Regardless of whether they know about the issue, it's not the restaurant's fault if they order a crab cake and explode or however people allergies die.

At worst it may serve as an enabler for a condition.

For me since I'm badly disabled, Gaming is basically what gets me through a day because I really have nothing else to do but pass time. And time doing nothing usually leads to me feeling depressed.

It is an illness. I remember having tummy aches when my parents bought me new games in middleschool. Couldn't go to school on those days I received games.
