Default What makes a good gamer?

How are some people are good at rpg games?

I been playing RPG games for a while, and I still sometimes rely on walkthroughs.

Lots of free time, insane OCD-like dedication, and decent hand-eye coordination.

    Lots of invested time.

A very small minority of people naturally have the talent to play extremely well regardless of invested time, and these people are typically pros.

It's true autistic people tend to focus solely on one goal and strive to master it. If games are their goal, they will try to master their skills by researching and playing constantly.

    So...maybe autism?

Judging by the number of hard-core super-good gamers that I've known that have confided in me that they are some sort of high-functioning autistic, I would say that autism is actually a pretty good answer. Heck, when you think about it, my answer is basically describing autism.

Jesus, I think we're on to something here.

yeah, no, autism doesn't mean you're going to be good at video games.

source: undergrad in speech-language pathology. I've simply studied autism more than you.

Reading: Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
Last read: You Just Don't Understand!: Women and Men in Conversations by Deborah Tannen (A MUST READ), A Child Named "It" by Dave Pelzer (NOT BAD), A Dance With Dragons by GRRM (4.5/5)

Interested in why I picked these books, or want to recommend me some more? Just pm me. I love books.

Don't think anyone said that. Or what I was saying, anyways. You can't deny that the elements associated with high functioning autism would help you be able to have a more single-mindedness when it comes to games, thus give you the natural ability to become good at games. That is, if games happens to be your focus. It's a dice-roll - being HFA may give you the natural "mindset" to be good at games, but there's a massive chance that you wont be interested in games. And, if you don't, you're not going to be good at it (same with everyone).

So no, just because you have autism does not mean you're going to be good at games. But, if you are a HFA and have an interest in games, it might.
