Default Path of Expansion (PoE mini-expansion 8/21/2014)

Five months ago the expansion, Sacrafice of the Vaal was released for Path of Exile, and excellent expansion that added a large amount of content from new item types and areas to a brand new final boss. The plan Grinding Gear Games had set in motion was that they would release a new expansion every six months, and thus far they have made good on the promise with the announcement of their latest expansion coming this August.

Over the course of this month and leading into the next, the development team will be releasing teasers of screenshots, lore, items, skills, areas etc etc leading up to the release. Their was an insane amount of hype leading into SoV and i expect this new expansion to be just as big of an event. Judging by the new banner and side images, i imagine the expansion may be more focused on PVP and guild vs guild.

The only problem I really had with PoE is that while it was a Diablo style game it seemed like not much was viable because you've got multiple projectiles, life steal and mobs that either reflect magical or physical damage back at you which is pretty much a huge slap in the face. This should be an action game where you can play what you want to play and have fun not get gear A,B, and C and gems A,B, and C, and passive skills A,B and C in order to get through the game at the hardest difficulty. Maybe they'll change it one of these days, whose knows but still hope they do better at make a good game rather than the path they're going currently.

    Desync still exists
Game is still not worth investing time in to

your game client loses it's sync with the server usually causing enemies and you to teleport and randomly take damage.
Results in death mostly and can be killer to anyone in a hardcore league. There are chat commands you can type to automatically resync your client but it's really annoying. It's apparently due to their crazy anti cheat system which is why they are stuck as an always online game. It's just too much data to transmit and their servers can't handle it. Though I think one of the devs played it off as "we have very intense movement and hit detection algorithms that cause the overdose of data" Either way it's ruining an otherwise great game.

The new crafting options and PO hideouts sound absolutely amazing. So glad to see them add new features to the game and not just some additional content/creatures. Definitely going to be starting in the new leagues when the expansion launches.

Seconded. On hardcore I never felt the need to do some sort of 'build', but there is a definite need for damage and a way to survive. Still, this is one of the few games where you can have fun with the skill system rather than have to follow a guide or commonplace style in order to beat it.
