    Default How's your health?

I recently had to go for a wellness exam for my health insurance and I was surprised to find out my BP is at 126/62. Been kind of worried about it since I've been under a lot of stress at the job. I gotta wait like 3 weeks for my blood work to come back though.

My brother on the other hand just found out he's close to being diabetic and has to change up his eating habits asap.

So im curious, how are you and yours doing?

Oddly enough, not as bad as one would assume. I'm still overweight (lost quite a bit earlier this year when I switched to vegetarian...summer ruined my veggieness, but winter will probably have me back on it. ****in' BBQ's man...) but doc says I'm good every time I go in for a sniffly cold or whatever.

My knees and shoulders and fingers are all pretty smashed up though. I have a really bad knee (jumped off a huge sand dune and wrecked it, never been the same since) and a bad shoulder...I really need surgery (pins in the shoulder) but I can't afford it. It's whatever...I just can't throw stuff really hard. Or walk sometimes when my knee decides to pop out.

Other than that, I have a brain thing pseudotumor...I dunno how that's going. I've always had it, but it turns out THC is one of the things that helps it. So yeah, I don't get the symptoms and it keeps it consistently in check.

Bro, yr bp is fine. That's within normal, healthy range. At least, according to the charts at the community clinic where I volunteer as a medical assistant.

Anyway, my health sucks. Physically, I'm extremely underweight. My BMI is 15.2. I have some sort of eating disorder apparently, which may or may not be anorexia. I have stomach pains and acid reflux all the time.

Emotionally and mentally, I've been diagnosed with PTSD what with my flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, ****ed up sleep (we're talking 0-4 hrs sleep a night on average), etc, - I've got every symptom except for irritability, apparently - that have been ongoing for like, most of my life but I thought were normal. I'm super prone to bouts of depression where I don't eat or sleep. Also, In November and in April I lost an uncle, leaving only my abusive wifebeater of an uncle alive; so that's been getting me even more depressed. And my major is stressful and hard as ****; organic chemistry was my easy class last semester.

I wasn't fed for a year (maybe two) as a kid, and the lack of nutrition for such a long period has long-term health and medical risks for me, too. By wasn't fed, I mean like, literally two pieces of toast and maybe peanut butter would be my meal for the whole day.

All in all, things health-wise are looking up compared to where I was ~2 years ago. I'm not having intrusive thoughts or being triggered every day, for example - more just like every other day. I actually have good days every couple of weeks. Somehow I've managed to eke out a 4.0 in college so far (I'm starting my senior yr in a couple of weeks) in a very competitive program, I volunteer weekly at a medical clinic for the poor and uninsured (up to 20hrs), and also the domestic violence shelter working with the kids as a positive male role model; and I have a job as a police response advocate, arriving with the police at scenes of domestic violence calls. I'm involved with my frat at a national level and also serve on the executive board of my chapter. But most impressive of all, I'm a moderator at Onrpg.com. And I got all my health shit holding me back; so when these ****ing freshmen in my frat complain I just laugh and laugh and laugh.

I'm a lazy eater so I don't eat as much calories as I'm required to. Thus I'm a bit underweight and always lethargic. I wish I was more motivated to eat. Definitely sure that means I'm not in good health due to lack of nutrients.

Physically I'm pretty okay. Improving. I've changed my diet and taken up yoga. It's pretty fun.

Mentally, a mixed bag. I've been on and off anti-depressants for almost a year and been to counseling a lot. I have my good days and bad days. I'm making changes though. Looking for a better job and I'm hoping to move to a new town in the winter. A lot of negative connotations associated with my current city which I apparently mentally can't shake.

Better than I was, but still not near where I want to be.

Physically, I don't get near enough exercise. But other than that and the stuff that may be born from it, I'm alright physically... for now* suspenseful music*

Mentally... I have anxiety issues which leads to bouts of depression sometimes. It doesn't affect me everyday, but when it does... ._.

At some point I need to see the doc and get some meds. Early this year I was on some pills for it, but I dint like the side-effects.

Up until this point, I would have thought a lot of y'all were in perfect health. Apart from being overweight myself (which is no one's fault but my own and I'm working on it) and some minor aches and pains that are job related, I guess I'm alright AFAIK. A lot of stress though but I got ways to handle that.

I like hearing about other people's problems though. Really puts things into perspective about what I don't have to go through or should be doing/appreciating more.

I am fat(again) but other than that I am healthy.
I can loose weight fairly fast, It's just hard to stay motivated.
Last time I tried I lost about 30lbs in 2 months. Time before that about 90lbs in 5 months.

Blood pressure varies, quite rapidly. Having an extremely high blood pressure really doesn't mean much unless it is a constant issue. Most blood work doesn't take anywhere near 3 weeks to come back unless it is specialized testing that is done in a central location, I live in quite the remote area and we finish 95% of requested testing in less than 8 hours, for some tests the doctor tells you to come back in a week to review the results for I could finish before you'd leave the building after having your blood taken (if you're relatively normal). Keep in mind some tests are required as soon as physically possible e.g. if someone is bleeding out or having a heart attack, and the longest one that they really need in emergency situations (not including medication monitoring) takes less than an hour.

As for not going to physicians, but believing your health isn't that good... If you're honest about this feeling, go to a doctor. I have very little patience for people who complain about issues and do nothing about it, there are tests, blood or imaging, to really nail down how much your knee hurts and there is medication or physio in order to greatly remedy any long-term pain you've been experiencing, there is no need to suffer pain that can be avoided.

As for a HbA1C for 7.1 (which I assume you mean by Hg), it is high, but it isn't that bad in the overall scheme, definitely work on it though, you don't want to stick around there. It's a 3 month estimate of your glucose control, the higher it is the more damage you'll be doing to yourself [especially your kidneys (What's your Urine microalbumin / creatinine ratio?)].

As for my health, I'm almost the definition normal with the exception of a slightly decreased white blood cell count (which I believe is due to me never being sick) and I'm dodging the genetic bullets (cancer mostly) that's been fired at me from all directions. Also, I'm lazy as hell, so I should work out more, which I won't do.

Oh ya I work for a specimen processing lab so I know about the process. I'm just surprised mine is low all things considered, but I worry about it because it was high before and my family has a history of high blood pressure, among other physical and mental problems. I haven't had a check up in a long time, which is why I was wondering about it.

7.1 for a diabetic is actually very good. Not perfect (which would be around 6.5) but still good enough to live on without too much trouble.

Er, no it's not. According to the NIH:

If your level is above 7% and you have diabetes, it often means that your blood sugar is not well controlled. Your target A1c should be determined by you and your health care provider.
I don't know how "often... not well controlled" is "actually very good." It might be for you, if that's what yr health care provider determiner with you. But all diabetes cases are different, and a high A1c is generally not good.
