Inspired by the television series “Star Trek: Enterprise,” episodes “In a Mirror Darkly” Part 1-2.

Robotic drone ships with shield generators.
The drones surround an enemy ship and activate.

It makes the use of photon torpedoes suicide, stops the enemies phasers from hitting friendly ships, prevents the enemy from escaping , and allows them to attack through the drones shields to the enemy ship.

In a standard battle situation they can also give a ship two or more shields and if they can be used so that they merely weaken the weapon being fired at the real target multiple layers of them can be used without them being destroyed.

In a Flight Simulator based on space combat these types of drones would be useful, but how could they be made easy to use?
Have other games used the idea before?
Can a computer handle the effort required to keep track of all the drones in play if it takes at least six drones per ship?
Can a computer handle the effort required to keep track of all the drones in play if there are multiple ships using them?
How would team use of drones be made easy?
How would the computer decide who should have top billing on control of the drones released for team use?
In personal defense situations would the drones move automatically based on where enemy ships are?
In personal defense situations where you are using the weakening weapon setting how would you tell the drones to do so?
