..Unfortunately, they don't exist. These posts are pretty commonplace on this board, and newbies don't seem to search the history to see that none of these posts get reasonable answers.

Making an MMORPG is a huge and arduous task. If you haven't touched programming before, or at least not on a very reasonable scale, then you don't have much of an idea of how tedious it really is. Writing the MMORPG alone is only one part of the many strenuous tasks in creating the game. Somehow you'll need to locate (and pay for!) a server(s) for your MMORPG, which will run you at least $100/month, and then you need to worry about website management for such a large scale of players, customer service, and of course security. Hackers will keep you on your toes and aggrevate you every step of the way through your game's development, and quite possible be your downfall if you aren't able to continuously keep a step ahead of them. If even huge companies can falter in the creation of an MMORPG, what makes you think that you can pick up some 'MMORPG maker' and create something where multi-million dollar companies have failed?

Sorry to sound so pessimistic. :)

Take the time to research exactly what an MMORPG is, and imagine from an administrator's point-of-view what a job it really is. The potential income for a successful one is huge, but when the failure rate is over 90%, and you're looking for a 'MMORPG maker', well sufficed to say, the odds are not in your favour. :/

However, I'm not saying that creating an MMORPG is impossible -- so don't feel totally defeated. My main point is that you can, but it will be insanely difficult. Feel free to proceed, but remember that will be at the risk of many years of work on your behalf.

I agree completely....About two years ago I realized a very interesting fact....... RPG MAKERS ARE NOT GOING TO GET YOU FAR....if you do manage to find one and it has a free server(not gonna happen) good luck getting far because almost everyone thats looking for a maker will find that one and all of the games will be the same because...well lets face it... Makers have all the same sprites and textures.... there are no models well because there are no 3d makers they are all in 2d which is another downfall.. You couldnt get a dollar a month for a game made by one and no one would pay it because its too much hassle to get 1 dollar to the maker of a game that is most likely duplicated or based off some other game. Well sorry for helping in the quest to destroy the dream of a good MMORPG Maker but its somethin thats gotta be done.

I too am sorry to sound pessimistic

Just spend some years in high school and college and get your programming classes in...get good at it... hire a team of graphic designers and programmers....and others.....then pray and cross your fingers that it pieces together.

Well Thats all I have to say about the subject

It is MMORPG. Massively Multiplayer Online thing. If anyone want to make game for own and friends only hopefully just can get anything from own self. But, what a waste. However, it will be usefull if it considered as begginer efforts to learn.

To be profesional is hard, For example, Earth and Beyond.

Wonderful space-based MMO by EA. They shut it down last year though, to (and I'm roughly paraphrasing this) "focus their collective game making talent on other more important things."

50k paying customers wasnt enough for them.. the game planned for 200k or so steady customers.. All of EA's managment needs to get one of those itches that never goes away.. especially after they added elves to UO... ELVES... Lord British is rolling in his grave.

(I got that from RealmCrafter forum)

It was two years ago, recently, there is a software which offers a free limited server for testing purpose (it maybe a marketing strategy to compete other softwares even free softwares) However, the software has a profesional cost rate icon_wink.gif

@KONSULTAN: Your writing is very difficult to read; I'm guessing English is not your primary language? I apologize, but I wasn't able to decipher what point or argument you were trying to make in your post. :-/

Good guess. I just try if anyone can get an idea from my weird writting. Therefore, let me explain it again (it will give 1 post point at least icon_wink.gif).

It is MMORPG. A Massively Multiplayer Online thing (the "thing" reffers to RPG, in order to make it simple). If anyone wants to make a game for his own and friends only, I hope he can get anything which is required from his own resources such as his own computers and softwares. It wastes his time and other resources if it is just for fun. In contrary, it will be useful if it is considered as a begginer's effort to learn about MMORPG.

To be a profesional in MMORPG is difficult (similar to what you wrote) and the example is Earth and Beyond. The quotation is not mine. It is from other forum, it will give readers an example to think of.

Monkeycracks complained about software developers which did not have a free server to test games as their service. It was condition of two years ago. Recently, there is a software developer which offers a time limited free server for testing purpose (it is a marketing strategy to compete with other software developers and with free softwares) But, the software has a profesional cost rate (maybe it means too expensive for a begginer).

Is there anything that you do not understand?

Sounds much more coherant. :) It would also be very much appreciated if you would avoid intentionally writing in a confusing manner. :-/

Sometime, university students or wellknown companies use weird things such as "bad" writting just to get intention. Then, when somebody ask what is the meaning of the writting, they would like to explain it according to theirs. icon_rolleyes.gif icon_wink.gif icon_biggrin.gif

Well, it's not welcome here. You're much more likely to get disregarded as someone with bad English that's not comprehensible.

This is getting pretty Off-Topic, so PM me if you want to continue, please.

To me, an MMORPG is a game that is "massively multiplayer", meaning that there is at least 100 players online at all times. While the engine itself and the games made by it are admittedly very nice-looking -- and it's clear that the engine took heaps of work to make -- the top Eclipse game listed only had 2 players online. :/

visiting www.realmcrafter.com would say allot icon_razz.gif

also visit their fansite www.mmorpgmaker.com

note that this links could help you loads, to everyone thinking he or she could create a mmorpg next day with 2million players on, keep dreaming icon_razz.gif

no really, my best advice is to new people who wish to create a mmorpg is to choose a programming language (Java, Blitz, etc) and if you are very new you could buy a begginers book, wich shouldn't cost too much.

you may look ast www.ebay.com or something, but anyway, you should also pay ALLOT for servers, the more players in your server, the more you should pay icon_confused.gif

and it could take 2 years to develop a good working, bug free, good mmorpg, and you should have ATLEAST 3 people working with you, with 1million USD you could pay 3 people for enough time to develop a good working mmorpg, its allot of money but its WORTH IT!

don't forget to pay the servers afcourse... icon_rolleyes.gif
