Blizzard finally announced the release date for the much anticipated Diablo III. After over a decade of waiting, the next installment in the epic Diablo series is set to be released on 15th May 2012.

The D3 forums have been hot with activity as the game has gone through a flurry of changes, but it seems that its developers are finally happy on the finished product. As the game’s director recently said (among allegations of the game taking “too long”): “No one will remember if a game is late, only if it’s great.”

Players can now pre-purchase their copy of the game through the battle.net site or check out their nearest game retailer if they (like myself) prefer a hard copy. Additionally, anybody who purchases an annual subscription of World of Warcraft will receive a copy of Diablo III for free.

Blizzard has stated that the digital copy of the game will cost $59.99 (€59.99), and the special collector’s edition (which contains the soundtrack, a behind-the-scenes DVD, a 208 page book of art, and a specially designed 4GB USB drive containing a copy of Diablo II and its expansion) will cost $89.99 (€89.99).

Unfortunately, the 15th May release date is in the middle of the exam period. Having to choose between studying hard or playing Diablo III is going to be a nightmare. Every rose has its thorn, I guess.
