League to go to 10 bans?

League OF Legends Season 6

League of Legends by Riot Games, has 133 characters or so right now. An absolutely staggering number of choices to play in the game. And in that, many of them are worthy of taking a ban or not being allowed in a particular competitive/draft mode. But each team only has 3 bans to choose from, and they don’t always make the smartest picks. Some people prefer to ban stuff they don’t want to deal with. Some people ban popular/hype carry picks. Some people just ban the same champ in every game because they refuse to accept a match that could have Vayne, Teemo, or Hecarim in it. And if they are on the opposing team, they will do nothing but kvetch, whine, and grow increasingly toxic. But who are the current “bannable” champs to me?

  • Vayne
  • Zed
  • Hecarim
  • Zac
  • Yasuo
  • Thresh
  • Blitz
  • Volibear
  • Akali
  • Kayle
  • Irelia
  • Fizz

League of Legends Ekko Review

See? More than six, and that’s just off the top of my head, some of the most difficult things for me personally to deal with. Some peoples lists are longer, some are shorter [I’m too gud to have bad matches lululul]. However, Meddler, over on the official League forums said they are looking at a ten ban system once the new client happens. Maybe the current client doesn’t allow for it? Dunno about all that, but I’d accept it. Personally, I think that it’s a fantastic idea. There are so many champs for so many situations, and there are a pile of really powerful characters right now. Not to mention, you might get booted from a lobby, see someone on the other team [that was on your team] trying to play something you don’t want to deal with. Not to mention the forthcoming assassin rework. I would have loved to see 10 bans during the Mage Rework. It’s not 100% confirmed, but they are definitely considering it. Want to see the post? It’s right here! They are looking at a lot of potential changes, and we’ll just have to see what they decide.

What do you guys think? No bans? 10 bans? 100 bans? What would appease your rage?

The idea of banning champs is a double edge sword.

In competitive level play, bans are just another weapon to be used against the enemy team. Serious level players are skilled in a wide variety of champs, but are/can be known for being highly skilled with only a few champs. And the ability to deny a master level player from getting his best champ is a solid play. Not to mention that some champs are just really out of balance (all the time.. ) so you would certainly not want to let your opponents be able to snatch up a powerhouse that doesn’t require much skill.

In casual play however (and I’ve already aired my complaints about the fact that 90% of the league community doesn’t understand the concept of “casual” gaming) Bans are a way to troll; a way to keep from having to face champs you don’t like, or more importantly, don’t know how to counter play; and a way to not have to deal with the current OP flavor of the month champs.

So, yeah, banning is a legitimate tool for playing the game at competitive level, but maybe not so much for causal play.

I like the thought of more bans, but I feel like casual play is definitely going to take a bigger hit. Not only that, but those players that only know “one or two champions” are immediately going to lose a lot of games for their team since there’s a higher chance of both of those champs being banned. Granted, people shouldn’t be playing ranked without having experience with more than a couple of champions, but that won’t exactly solve your problem while playing with a “first-time Janna” in your lobby.
