FFXI: three all-new expansion chapters

The Adventure Continues With Three All-New FINAL FANTASY XI Expansion Chapters!
*Available for online purchase only

Masato Kato, who oversaw the original plot conception on FINAL FANTASY XI from initial release up through the Rise of the Zilart expansion, will also play a key role in the creation of this new series of installments.

The first installment, A Crystalline Prophecy – Ode of Life Bestowing, is slated for release for all languages and platforms in Spring of next year. Subsequent installments will then follow, being released in intervals of every few months.
These expansions packages will only be available through online purchase via PlayOnline. The projected cost for each installment is around $10.00.

Unlike its predecessors, such as Treasures of Aht Urghan and Wings of the Goddess, this original series of expansion packages will be distributed exclusively as online add-ons. Players may rest assured, however, that version updates for the Wings of the Goddess expansion will still continue for some time. Concurrent with the regular version updates, the new expansions are being developed as a with a “novelette” approach. Indeed, a separate development team has been established specifically for these new expansions.

Additional Scenarios?
Up until now, expansion packs have generally been developed from a perspective of “lateral expansion,” focusing namely on the introduction of new areas. These three new expansions, however, will deepen the storylines running through pre-existing areas by ushering in all-new plots and intrigues. While not necessarily containing as much content as traditional expansions, these episodic scenarios are designed to take anywhere from one to two months to complete.

Target Levels?
Though the quests can easily be started by a solo player somewhere in the vicinity of level 30, they will tend to become more difficult as the storyline progresses. By the end, completion of the quests will likely require a party of level 75 characters, with the rewards being geared towards high-level players as well.
Players can engage in these new storylines simultaneously with any of the missions from preceding expansions without conflict.

Zu Online: New Version 1.8.01 Available

The Zu Online Team is pleased to announce that the latest version 1.8.01 has been released on November 24th. Players can now run the client to update the game automatically.

In contrast with the previous version, there is a lot of new content in version 1.8.01, which will make the game even more fun.

Boundary Hill, the second instance zone of Zu Online has been added. The monsters, especially the boss-level monsters in Boundary Hill are extremely tough, but they drop items that make it all worthwhile.
Additionally, another two new high-level zones – Frozen Sea and Wei-Yang Palace have been added. What’s more, we have added several new systems, including Enchanting, pet combination, fashion improvement and the salary system. With the release of the new systems, players can improve their equipment by using the Enchantment function, attach a pet’s attributes to another, add extra attributes to fashionable items and get a weekly salary after meeting certain requirements. We also will improve the Commercial Travel system, add high-level Round Quests and improve some of the game settings.

In a word, Zu Online version 1.8.01 will certainly bring players an improved gaming experience in Zu Online.

Drift City Review

by Rick Charbs, Onrpg writer

Drift City is a fuel-heavy racing MMO released by ijji. It features clean cell-shaded graphics and an overall enjoyable experience to anyone who enjoys racing games. Drift City, known as Skid Rush in Korea, takes place in the somewhat near future, during a worldwide oil shortage. An alternative has been discovered, called Mittron, on an Island located in the Pacific Ocean. Many events that follow ensure calamity on the main setting of the game, the said island, carrying the name of its new power source, Mittron Island. As such, the Organization for Mittron Development (OMD) has hired many professional drivers in order to keep the peace. You must take the role of one of these professional drivers, and this game will offer you a pretty in-depth story line of quests and missions to fulfill your duty. This game has an impressive storyline for a racing game, let me tell you!

General Gameplay
The gameplay this game offers is pretty straight forward, but there is much more to it than meets the eye. There are even many different cities you can drive in, with your friends, in order to pick up quests, missions, and go into the special shop and garage area of the game. The controls are very simple? you only need to keep track of 6 odd keys, being shift, control, and the arrow keys, as well as a few others. The arrow keys are for simple movement, the up arrow being for acceleration, the bottom arrow for stopping, and the right/left keys for steering.

Shift is used to drag, and control is used to boost when the gauge is full. After mastering these controls, which takes a big two minutes, you are ready to race others and/or participate in missions! I, personally, liked taking up missions the most, as it kept the story rolling and kept me very entertained, for somebody who doesn’t generally play racing games. Missions can be in a variety of categories, such as deliveries, and much, much more. Races can be done in teams or solo on various tracks.

Winning races and completing missions will add to your experience and will also earn you some cold hard cash. With this in-game currency, called Mito, you may purchase funky parts for your vehicle, or a new vehicle altogether. You may buy them in a variety of shapes and types as long as you meet the experience/Mito requirements.

Questing
As previously mentioned, the questing aspect of this game lies in the missions. They all hold great storyline value, and offer generous rewards. I’ve found all of them very enjoyable so far, as you get to drive… real fast! Most missions require you to speed to a certain area on the map, and only offer you a certain limit of cash allowed. If you pass this limit, you will fail the mission and you will be given the option to start anew. You will also receive a guiding arrow to bring you to your destination.

Graphics and Sound
Early on, I was getting very impressed with the quality of this game. The graphics are very smooth, even on low settings, and were equipped with flawless animations. The cell-shaded quality of the game really adds to the gameplay value it holds. This renders the game unique, and gives you the feel of playing a console game? what most racing MMOS attempt to aim for.

Everything ran nicely on my computer, and that’s saying the least, as my computer is very…old. The sound was surprisingly decent enough for me to have the desire to leave it on, which is something that doesn’t happen too often for me these days. It was fun listening to my accelerating car! Anyway, they could most certainly improve on the background music, but I feel they have it great as it is, honestly. There isn’t much else to be judged about these aspects, but you have to keep in mind that this is a free to play MMO. If you keep your expectations at a mediocre level, you’ll be pleasantly surprised, I’m sure!

Personal Recommendation
Drift City was a wonderful racing MMO. With low expectations, this game took me by surprise? and I mean it! I hadn’t experienced the least bit of lag during my entire play time, and I lag whilst playing games such as Fiesta Online and LaTale. Being a fully 3D game with decent graphics, I was not expecting the smooth ride I was so wonderfully having. Everything was at a high fps, and it kept me very interested in the game. This is of great importance in a game where lag can determine the winner. Anyway, there were also many other aspects that kept me playing! For one, this racing game had a decent storyline with some very nice art. I liked reading through the missions and the cut scenes. Of course, if you are only interested in kicking some butt on the race track, I’m sure you will enjoy that as well. I actually won my very first race, in first place. This proves how easy the controls are, and how the learning curve is extremely short. I’m not accustomed to the racing genre, so this game truly impressed me.

The extra features of the game were also quite fun, such as the battle mode, the sticker feature (where you can fully customize your car), the Undercity (an instance mode that is directly linked with the story of the game, you and a party of drivers work together to take down enemy NPC vehicles), and many others. In a nutshell, this game has a lot to offer. It carefully mixes the aspects of an RPG and a Racing MMO, without leaving out important assets to the game. I sincerely suggest you give this game a try if you like racing. Even if your computer isn’t too powerful, as is mine, you could be shocked at how well the game plays on your system! Happy racing!

Pros
-Virtually lag-less on an average computer
-Great graphics and sound
-Fun features such as party quests
-Tiny learning curve
-Easy controls
-Interesting storyline

Cons
-A little customizable
-Players with cash have a slight advantage (but it isn’t too defined)
-May seem repetitive

Aurora Blade: Overview

Aurora Blade, the IGG first Browser-Based MMORPG, would be released at the beginning of December. Below is the introduction of the brand new browser-based online game.

Aurora Blade is a cool, new role-playing Browser-Based MMORPG. It does not require any download or installation. Simply open the link in a new browser window, and type your IGG account and password in to start. The main aim of this new game is to build a healthy internet game-playing environment for gamers. With every click of the mouse, you can be changed into different characters or hang out in “Barlow Valley” with your friends.

With a backdrop of Western sorcery and knightly combat, Aurora Blade offers players a fantastic game world in which players act as warriors and fight with monsters and other evil forces with only the strength of their swords and the strength of their will. They fight to protect their land and maintain their way of life. Aurora Blade features all the best characteristics and advantages of PC games, MMORPGs and browser based games in one slick package.

Apart from 4 distinct classes, Aurora Blade still has abundant content including monster killing to level, a diverse community of players to chat and play with, various equipment, skills and items, forging and refining functions, PK functions, team combat, guild activities, instances and other amazing content. Players will find a lot of excitement and fun in Aurora Blade Online.

If you are not a social person and feel incredibly awkward when making friends with strangers, you can still have a good time in game and win Good Fellow Cards after completing quests. Or just play alone and show off your proficient skills in 1 VS 1, where it’s easy to win quality gear. Only a very small amount of branch line quests are marked as TEAM quests, which means they must be completed in party. So, even if you do not join any teams, you can still have a lot of fun in game. Your characters can even level up by themselves in case you are AFK for awhile. When you are occupied with something else, log into the game and watch how much your characters can progress by themselves!

Tabula Rasa: live service closing down on February

An official communication from the Tabula Rasa Team:

To the Tabula Rasa Community,

Last November we launched what we hoped would be a ground breaking sci-fi MMO. In many ways, we think we’ve achieved that goal. Tabula Rasa has some unique features that make it fun and very different from every other MMO out there. Unfortunately, the fact is that the game hasn’t performed as expected. The development team has worked hard to improve the game since launch, but the game never achieved the player population we hoped for.

So it is with regret that we must announce that Tabula Rasa will end live service on February 28, 2009.

Before we end the service, we’ll make Tabula Rasa servers free to play starting on January 10, 2009.

We can assure you that through the next couple of months we’ll be doing some really fun things in Tabula Rasa, and we plan to make staying on a little longer worth your while.

Stay tuned for more information. We thank you for your loyal support of the game and encourage you to take us up on the benefits we’re offering Tabula Rasa players.

Conquer Online: Ninja Approaching Part II Gear Preview

The new class Ninja of Conquer Online’s expansion, New Dynasty, is scheduled to be released around this Christmas. For this highly appealing class, designers from TQ Digital Entertainment have prepared a series of exclusive items. With exotic equipment, Ninjas are ready to break the mold of Conquer.

According to design concepts, the Ninja is a dual-wielding class, who possesses superior melee attack strength, but has much lower defense. This design concept will be closely reflected in actual game play. The basic Ninja image in Conquer Online is a shrewd warrior in light armor carrying a deadly katana, very like ninjas in other video games and Japanese anime. Apart from this common concept, Ninja equipment style in Conquer Online is also blended with the fantastic ancient Chinese style, which makes the new class fit in the game’s overall art style.

Ninja’s gear can be divided into 4 categories: katana, ninja vest, ninja headband and veil.

The legendary katana, Ninja’s symbolic weapon, has the incredible attack. Compared with sword of the same quality, the katana has almost twice maximum attack. Possessing such lethal weapon, Ninja is undoubtedly a killing machine.

In stark contrast to their wondrous weapons, Ninja armor is not that outstanding. As a class relying on agility and reflexes, Ninjas can only equip some light armor, which makes their defense lower than Trojan’s. The developers hope this design can maintain the balance between the classes.

Ninja has 2 types of specific headgear: headband and veil. However, the properties of these 2 types are the same. Player can make a choice from them to customize their characters’ appearance and style according to their own imagination about ninjas.

Many players are arguing that Ninja, as the second dual-wielding class, would replace Trojan as the most incredible character in the PVP. From the comparison above, we can know that Ninja will highly exceed Trojan in the attack, but has a disadvantage in the defense. However, from these dull statistics, it is hard to judge who will dominate the PvP. After all, victory or defeat of PvP can not be solely decided by the property of gear. Next time, we will unveil Ninja’s mysterious skills, from which players can have a glance at Ninja’s PvP ability.
