Project Powder Interview

Onrpg: Project Powder is currently in closed beta. What are the positive and negative aspects of it so far?

GM Murdock: We’re getting a lot of great feedback from many different game communities, and a lot of new users are checking out Outspark for the first time thanks to Project Powder. We’ve run into some hurdles, but it’s expected in a closed beta. Outspark has been working day and night to fix any bugs and connection issues we encounter, and have addressed many issues thanks to the help of our beta testers.

Onrpg: What brought you to release a snowboarding game at the beginning of the summer season?

GM Murdock: That is the exact reason why Outspark wanted to release the game in the summer. There’s no snow at this time of year, so it gives snowboard fans something to dream about during the summer. Besides, it’s refreshing to see snow in the game during the hot summer!

Onrpg: What characters can players chose to be? Are there any advantages and disadvantages between them?

GM Murdock: The characters are Max, Ross, and Beth. There are some differences between the characters, but they are not too noticeable. You really differentiate your character with your gear, which can be enhanced by using a Magic Cube to refine the Ore you find in the game. Once you enhance your character, they will go faster, jump higher, turn quicker, and boost harder.

Max is the default (main) character, and he is the “hero” in the game. Ross is the young kid and a child genius, and he tends to be a very agile character. Beth is Ross’ sister, and is both smart and cute.

Onrpg: Will Project Powder see an item mall? If so, what will we be able to purchase from it in its release?

GM Murdock: Yes, there will be an item mall of sorts. There are different stores you can buy premium items from in-game. To name just a few: The Department Store is where the newest items are released, and the Discount Store is where older items and sale items are located. Of course, there will be even more stores in the future.

Onrpg: What kind of environments can people race in? How many maps can players take on?

GM Murdock: You spend time on the track and in the game room lobby. There are two game types – Single and Team – and three game modes: Race Mode, Battle Mode, and Coin Mode. Within the game room lobby you can throw a snowball at other opponents and/or teammates. Project Powder will have 33 tracks in open beta, but we are adding more tracks as we speak. Because the game takes place on a distant planet in the future, you’ll be able to snowboard on more than just snow, and can shred up grassy fields subterranean mines as well.

Onrpg: What events are presently being held?

GM Murdock: Currently we run “Race Against the GM” events. These events can take place in any of our three game modes or two game types.

Also, players that reach level 5 in closed beta will get a permanent “CBT” hoodie in open beta, and the players that report the most bugs will be rewarded with SparkCash – a currency used for Outspark games. Check out www.project-powder.com for more details. Sometimes we make impromptu events just for the day. We post the details for these events on the forums.

Onrpg: What different game modes can players pick from?

GM Murdock: The game modes are as follows: Single/Team Race where you can race against the whole room and/or team up to race as a team, Single/Team Battle where you can battle against the whole room and/or team up to battle as a team, and Single/Team Coin where you can compete against the whole room to pick up the most coins and/or team up to compete as a team. There are also more game modes being developed, but I cannot share the details at this point. Look for them in the future!

Onrpg: Players can perform combos and fancy tricks while snowboarding. What controls do players use perform them?

GM Murdock: The controls are keyboard based. You use the arrow keys to turn, go faster, and stop or slow down. You can use the keyboard to do tricks and the spacebar to jump. The X key will let you look behind you.

We are also looking to give players USB gamepad support so you can plug in a controller to play.

Onrpg: What updates do you plan on releasing in the future?

GM Murdock: We have a lot of exciting plans for different type of updates. Maintenance updates will happen weekly. Content updates will happen every 2-4 weeks. We plan to keep adding content during the live service of the game.

Onrpg: When do you plan the open beta and the full release of Project Powder?

GM Murdock: The Open Beta will come shortly after closed beta. Unfortunately the date is TBA. The best thing to stay up on news and announcements is to watch the Project Powder website, so keep www.project-powder.com bookmarked!

Fiesta Online Review

Written by Rick Charbs

Eccentric music fills the air; I am logging into Fiesta Online, a world where quests bring perilous journeys, and also great treasures. Fiesta Online is an interesting title first released by Outspark on the 8th of November 2007. This review will cater how it has improved or weakened since its first impression, as well as a basic overview.

Basic Game play

Fiesta is the most casual among casual MMOs. It features a lot of fun and interesting things to do, as well as a lot of generic RPG elements. Like most free to play MMORPGs, you will set out to battle cute creatures in your lower levels and the stronger more intimidating creatures in your higher levels in order to gain experience levelling up and wearing more powerful gear. The classes are strictly limited to a basic four: warrior, archer, mage, and cleric. Furthermore, races are not determined by choice, although some classes are different races than others at creation. For example, archers are elves and clerics are human. The storyline is somewhat immersive, but you need to have a very good imagination. Personally, the best aspect of this title is its party value. You will want to play this one with a friend or two; it just makes it that much better. Nothing is more fun that gathering up with a huge group of friends and taking on some big bad monsters!

Questing

Despite its current reputation, Fiesta Online’s questing system is not as undeveloped as it seems. Fiesta Online has introduced a title feature, which allows your character to earn humorous or glorifying titles to personal preference (or for bragging rights). These special titles can be earned by resolving certain quests or making certain accomplishments within the game. The downside to questing is the fact that almost every quest has the same base template: kill xx monsters or collect xx items. However, the King’s Quests, one of the most enjoyed features of the game, allow for a large group of adventurers to fight together in order to complete a much more difficult quest. They usually involve fighting a big bad monster as a group; working together with all your forces- they really are quite enjoyable.

Improvements

Many patches have been released since Fiesta Online was first introduced to the MMO community. Countless fixes/changes have been made for the community. Were they for better or for worse? Recently, a fairly large patch was introduced to Fiesta Online. It ensured a faster levelling pace for a more enjoyable experience. As you may know, most of the bad reputation this game has been having was for its grind. With this new patch, users will receive a substantial increase in exp as quest rewards comparatively to the previous set exp rate. I was able to reach a decent level in a mere few days; the increase in quest rewards was noticeable. With this upgraded reward rate, the game runs much smoother, and most of the bugs that came along with this patch (such as skill animations) are fixed. Furthermore, many more exciting patches are planned for release during summer 08, with a lot of awesome new features implementing in this title.

Graphics and sounds

I must admit, I have not found any differences to the quality of graphics and sounds since I had first played it at its release, for obvious reasons. However, with a more powerful computer, I was able to now enjoy it at a maximum capacity. The anime graphics style is truly perfected in this game, and you can tell various details are attended to. The environments seem very lush with the glow option, and everything seems very beautiful, especially for a free to play MMORPG. The sounds were quite odd and repetitive, though they did have a certain quality to them. They sounded great the first time I heard them; it was just that the same tracks just keep playing. The music does its job pretty well though; it sets you in the appropriate mood.

Personal Recommendation

First and foremost, I would like to add emphasis on how this game has thoroughly changed within these past months. If you have left for certain reasons such as exp rate or events, you’ll absolutely love Fiesta Online.

Now, for all of those who are new to the title, I will give you a little bit of input to top off this review. Firstly, the staff in-game is very active and incredibly fun to have around. There are events hosted all of the time and they usually feature a gm appearance. They are all really humorous and like to drown themselves in the community. I attended an event and it was really enjoyable- I had a blast. Also, the community is very humble, fun, and kind. There are your usual spammers but mostly everyone was nice to me and even clerics kept healing me when I had not even asked. Overall I absolutely loved this community; you cannot really ask for a more down to earth player base. Although, the downside to this game, personally, is the fact there is almost no uniqueness in the classes, hardly any customisation (unless you use the cash shop), and despite the relief on the quest rewards, it is still fairly hard to level. You need to dedicate some time to creating a fun and enjoyable character within the game.

However, as I have stated, Fiesta Online is a very casual game. It is the type you would hop on for an hour here and there, and just have some fun with friends. There are some very active players though, who just love every aspect of the game, which is natural because the features are quite nice for a free game. If you are interested in casual gaming, look no further. Fiesta Online will grasp your very gaming soul, and you will love what this game has to offer. If you are new to MMO gaming this is a definite one to try!

Myth War II: Protector System Preview

Myth War II (http://mw2.igg.com/), the new sequel to the classic MMORPG from IGG (www.igg.com), continues the tradition of excellent play and an exciting community of players.

Recently many players have been inquiring about the new Protector System in Myth War II, so the Myth War team has come through and offered some detailed information about the 3 steps used to create a statue, the Patron saint bonus and the Changing Spirit Lords.

1. Statue creation

First step: The Guild Leader goes to the Guild HQ and chooses a Spirit Lord to worship through “Sacrifice”. There are six Spirit Lords. They are the Justice God, Wisdom God, Strength God, Flame God, Darkness God and Hades. The higher the guilds level, the more Spirit Lords they can worship.

Second step: Guild Leaders must lead the guild members to challenge five Watchmonsters and the Spirit Lord. Combat should be initiated successively one by one until the Spirit Lord is defeated. There is no break for restoration. If the Guild Leader is killed during the period, the challenge fails.

Third step: After the challenge is successful, the Spirit Lord will become the guild’s patron saint and a statue of the Spirit Lord will be erected in the Guild HQ.

2. Change Spirit Lords

The six Spirit Lords possess 3-4 kinds of resistances respectively. If a guild gets a patron saint, the guild members can choose two kinds of resistance the Lord possesses as a main resistance and sub-resistance. Below are the optional patron saint bonuses:

Justice God:Hypnosis Resistance, Physical Resistance, Critical Resistance

Wisdom God:Chaos Resistance, Physical Reflection, Magical Reflection

Strength God:Stun Resistance, Pierce, Berserk Resistance, Critical Resistance

Flame God:Fire Resistance, Ice Resistance, Combo Resistance, Counterattack Resistance

Darkness God:Dark Resistance, Light Resistance, Death Resistance

Hades :Drain Resistance, Poison Resistance, Frailty Resistance

3. Patron saint bonus

Once the statue of a Spirit Lord is erected, the guild receives the blessing of that Spirit Lord. Then, the guild members can choose two of its resistances as a main resistance and sub-resistance.

Voyage Century: GMsÂ’ new Appearances

Voyage Century (http://vc.igg.com), a 3D MMORPG from IGG, which prides itself on the real world geography, historical design, and eye-catching graphics within the game. And as such it continues to impress its extraordinarily loyal players and fans.
Today the Voyage Century team wants to tell their players a bit about the new appearances of their GMs.
Some unscrupulous players have been disguising themselves as GMs to trick other players out of special items and/or coins. In an effort to combat this; the VC team has specifically designed these new appearances for the GMs so that players can easily distinguish the fakes from the real GMs.
