Onrpg: What feature does you like the most? Please motivate your answer.
Hero: I would have to say my favorite feature would be the faction wars. The tides of the wars are always changing and they are very exciting to both participate in and watch. I’ve seen a couple of these wars really come down to the wire and its very thrilling to watch the strategies that each faction put into play.

Onrpg: How do players get involved into the story of Hero online?
Hero: We have a line of quest called Cryptic Tales that are directly tied to the story of Hero Online. Players will discover the current mysteries surrounding Dragon Castle and how it progresses as they venture further into the game.

Wild Beasts

Onrpg: How do you stand against exploits and bots, and what are you doing to prevent them from getting into the game?
Hero: We are always looking for ways to prevent bots from entering our game by updating our security system and making it more difficult if not impossible for future bot updates to be used. We have never really had a serious problem with exploits so we hope to keep that going and keep our players happy

Onrpg: What is done to get players into understanding the game? Is Hero Online friendly for newcomers?
Hero: The first few quest of Hero Online introduces players into a couple of features and get them into the swing of things. There are also lots of tips that periodically appear in the players chat window that has lot of helpful information for new players.

Onrpg: What sets Hero Online apart from the rest of the MMORPGs at the market?
Hero: Hero is unique from other MMORPGs do to the skills in the game. A player will feel as if they could take on the world when fighting though a horde of monsters and they will enjoy looking at the animations that have been created for these skills as well.

Onrpg: What future content is there planned for Hero Online? Is there anything you can reveal for us?
Hero: There are future plans to implement a new war which involves castle siege type warfare. One side will of course defend and the other will be attacking. There is no set date for this content yet but are players can be on the lookout for it in future announcements.

Hero Online Martial Armor

Onrpg: How is the character customization in Hero Online, and what kind of additional customization and features can be found in the Cash shop?
Hero: Hero’s main customization can be found with our Hero Tavern Robes. Players can use these items to mix and match if they please or go with a full set for bonuses. There are also a few face designs along with mask and fun costume helmets.

Onrpg: How does the PvP work in Hero Online and what makes it stand out from other games?
Hero: There are a few ways players can go about PvP in Hero Online. They can join the various wars to compete for victory alongside their faction or they can go around to one of the open PvP maps such as Mudo Island or Dime Desert. There is also a Bounty system that allows players to place gold up for grabs for anyone who is willing and capable of taking down the targeted player.

Hero Online

Onrpg: How does the community get involved in the game? How do you communicate with the players and do you have any special events in store for them?
Hero: The community controls a lot of aspects in and out of the game in a couple of ways. The first being the players actions in game and what I mean by that is we try and look at what players enjoy the most in game and focus our new efforts in that direction. The second is listening to their ideas and opinions on the forums. We try and keep a good eye on our forums too see what the community is currently focused or not so focused on and work with that information.

Onrpg: Thank you for your time!
Hero: Thank you and we hope to see you all in Hero.

Onrpg Weekly News Roundup: October 19 – 26

By Joshua Temblett (Dontkillmydreams), OnRPG Journalist

Well here’s another roundup of MMORPG news. Nothing really exciting this week, I guess everyone’s just gearing up for Halloween events and the big Winter rush of games, however there might be some big news next week with regards to Final Fantasy XIV and some other games.  Anyway back to the present, here’s what we’ve got this week.

Final Fantasy XI

A Shantotto Ascension

You can now buy the new mini expansion, “A Shantotto Ascension – The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born”.  You can only purchase the game online, like all of the other mini expansions, however as mentioned last week there will be an “Ultimate Vana-diel” package which will feature all of the content so far, including the mini expansions.

Once you’ve bought the new mini expansion you’ll have to wait until November 9th, which is when the next Final Fantasy XI version update will occur.

Job Adjustments and Additions: Part II

Another round of Job Adjustments is scheduled for the November Patch, this time for the beastmaster and summoner classes.  Some very cool skills for both of the jobs have been added, you can view the whole thing here.

Runes of Magic

The Pumpkin Festival

“The night of the nights begins: high up in the Forsaken Abbey the old nightmare of Taborea comes to life and sends its minions to celebrate this special night! Undead crawl out of the cold graves, ghosts leave their paintings to haunt the living and all kinds of monsters and undead brood crawl howling through the alleys.

It’s Halloween!

The taborean inhabitants face this awakening of the once living in their very own way: they disguise themselves and join their ranks in haunting the streets. Join them and take part in our Halloween event starting this week. Collect candies, hunt the pumpkin or take part in monster parades.” So here are the details:

On Halloween a tasty in-game pumpkin-based event will launch in Runes of Magic. On 27th October, every player of the online role play game will be able to experience the Taborean Pumpkin Festival. The high point of the Halloween festival will be the event zone at the Oblivion Shrine. This is where there will be an exciting challenge to master:

Players are going to meet up with some wild Pumpkin Monsters along with some crazy Demon Pumpkins as well. Only those who are able to skilfully use the captured seeds to defend themselves against the superiority of the Halloween fruit will be credited with points. At the end of each round, on the basis of their points, all participating players will be awarded the so-called Mad Fire. Adventurers can then exchange this Halloween currency for gifts within the context of the event. The Mad Fire can be cashed in for parts of a special Pumpkin Festival set, from transformation drinks right up to small companions. Whoever is especially successful at bagging the Mad Fire will also secure up to two rare titles. ‘Let’s Rock! Kaz!’ and ‘Kaz Madness’ can be earned exclusively during the Pumpkin Festival.

The event will run up to the 10th of Novemeber this year.

For those of you who are looking for something extra special this Halloween, this event seems to be for you.

You can read it here.

Altis Gate: First Dev Diary

The always pleasant folks at IGG have sent us this Developers diary in which David tells us about Altis Gate:

Dev Log: Diversification and the Birth of Altis Gates
Welcome to the first installment of our Altis Gates  Development Log. I’m David, one of the developers working on Altis Gates. I’m looking forward to giving people a glimpse into the development process behind Altis Gates. To start things off with a bang, I’d like to share some insights about IGG’s decision to introduce some groundbreaking diversification features to the game.
From the very beginning, we were determined to develop a game that could be both original and popular with gamers of various backgrounds and interests. There are a lot of MMORPGs on the market. What kind of game would stand out among so many others? The question puzzled us. One thing we realized was that most young gamers are tired of boring level grinding, unchangeable character graphics, stereotypical PvP and other unoriginal features that have become standard in the industry. To us, it seems young gamers want more freedom and a chance to showcase their personalities. They hate to be confined. To address all these concerns, we felt a highly diversified game would be very attractive to our target audience. As a result, we adopted the idea of diversification as the driving force behind everything we put into Altis Gates.
The first element of the game we wanted to make more diversified was a character’s appearance. Players will spend a lot of time to achieve a look that speaks to their personality, but because of the limitations of a 2.5D game, slight changes in appearance such as one’s figure, facial features or stature might not be all that noticeable. How could player characters be diversified and attractive? One day, we suddenly saw the light. If a slight change doesn’t work, why not let players change their characters dramatically? By letting players make bold changes to their character’s looks, we can give them many different options rather than slight variations on a few basic forms.
Once we made that decision, we designed 4 options for player character customization. The first is to change appearance using a shape-shifting card. While fighting computer-controlled enemies in the wilderness, players have the chance to loot shape-shifting cards that let them assume the appearance of the specified creature while also benefiting from a double experience bonus for 10 minutes. We currently have 60 types of shape-shifting cards, giving players 60 different creatures they can mimic.
The second option allows characters to assume the appearance of certain NPCs using shape-shifting potions. Among the many NPCs in the game is a cute duck-like character known as Tracy. After completing a particular Storyline Quest, players receive a vial of shape-shifting potion and one containing a reversion potion. Players can use these to copy Tracy’s shape and then revert to their normal form later. Our goal is to design and release many more shape-shifting potions in the future.
Since neither the first nor the second options are usable in combat, we wanted to add an option allowing players to enjoy shifting their shape in combat, too. The result was the Berserker, a special class that is able to take Tiger Form, Bear Form or Cheetah Form in combat.
The final shape-changing option is available to those who sell items from a stall. While running a stall, players can turn into a cute miniature snowman, which gives them the chance to add some fun to the activity of selling one’s spare items.
We don’t stop at characters when thinking about diversifying looks and abilities. Pets can also be customized using 60 different pet shapes, 42 character types, 9 talent types, plus stat points to create a unique pet unlike any other. Players can feed their pet an Evolution Crystal to alter its appearance, or accept a specific combat challenge to see their pet change before their eyes.
We want to make Altis Gates an original and diversified turn-based fantasy game that players will really enjoy. The player community will help define how the game evolves, so please post ideas and feedback on the official forum at to help us make it the best game it can possibly be.
An Alpha Test launch date will be announced very soon. Keep an eye on OnRPG for the latest details and news about Altis Gates and its upcoming Alpha Test.

Mercenary Wars: 2 Day playtest of new content coming up

Uforia launched a content update play test for Mercenary Wars today.

The short two-day beta test starts today, October 26 at 2 PM Pacific Daylight time and runs through 9 PM.  The game will again be accessible during the same hours tomorrow, October 27th.  Anyone with a current or new registered Uforia account will be eligible to play in the beta.  The game will officially launch later this fall.

“The testing phase as we lead up to launch is very important to us so we are looking to our community to come and check out the game and give us their feedback on things we can improve upon,” said Mike Min, Creative Director of Uforia.

Unlike other first person shooter games available today, Mercenary Wars features a unique stat system that players can use to upgrade and customize their lifelike characters.  The combat in the game is designed to feel very realistic, while also allowing players to adjust their speed, accuracy, and health stats.  Mercenary Wars is set in the not so distant future in a world where order and society as we know them are a thing of the past.  The economies of the world have crashed and have been replaced with total chaos.  New alliances have been forged and the world is now controlled by well-trained groups of mercenaries.  Players must determine who to swear their allegiance to and fight side-by-side to the death, if necessary, in the quest to ensure becoming the new global powerhouse.
Mercenary Wars will also feature an innovative Artificial Intelligence system where computer controlled “bots” can be used in several ways ranging from practice to enhancing game play.  Via four difficulty modes, players can select their desired skill level no matter what their previous FPS experience might be.  Other features include multiple gameplay modes, a variety of character types and races, extensive ranking system including more than 50 different character ranks and title, an expansive number of weapons and equipment available for character customization and a built-in player-to-player audio communication tool for enhanced real-world combat simulation.
