Gala Networks Europe Announces Martial Arts MMORPG Age of Wulin

Gala Networks Europe Announces Martial Arts MMORPG Age of Wulin

Become a Wulin in the amazing world of medieval China and follow the Code of Xi with duty, honour, righteousness, courage and, importantly, a healthy dose of mercy.

Gala Networks Europe is delighted to announce the upcoming release of Age of Wulin – Legend of the Nine Scrolls, its next client-based MMORPG for the European market and available for free from the gPotato.eu portal in 2011. Age of Wulin – Legend of the Nine Scrolls is a Triple A martial arts MMORPG and the third game published by Gala Networks Europe in partnership with the acclaimed Chinese developer Snail Game, following browser-based titles Castle of Heroes and Terra Militaris.

Age of Wulin will take players back into ancient Chinese history, where they will be immersed in traditional daily life during a period when martial arts culture was at its peak. Instead of a linear level system, players can develop their character by obtaining skills through the game’s dynamic armed and unarmed combat system, which combines a variety of martial arts such as Shaolin kung-fu,Tai Chi and ancient Chinese philosophies such as acupuncture and inner meridians. Age of Wulin also takes place in a beautiful 3D world with high quality graphics and deep engaging game play.

Age of Wulin

In the initial stages, players will select their path from eight different storylines and uncover a unique novel that accompanies each storyline in order to help build their character. By learning and training new skills each day, the player’s character improves and they are offered new challenges with every step. Experienced characters will even be able to master skills that enable them to run on water or even fly from one roof to another. Life is not over once the player returns from their adventures and logs out, as their avatar will stay in-game, continuing daily life routines and tasks according to what the player determines.

Age of Wulin will include everything that players expect from a high quality MMORPG, such as PvE and PvP content, crafting and professions, group battles, challenges to solve conflicts, a housing system and much more. Age of Wulin covers a huge world with more than 65 km², more than 30 regions and 20 instances, 8 factions and 8 different schools of combat, 8 main professions and even more secondary professions, more than 1,000 skills to customise the players strength, more than 15,000 quests and almost 5,000 NPCs.

Age of Wulin will be available in English, French and German in 2011 from the gPotato.eu portal. In the coming weeks the gPotato Europe team will unveil more information about the game, the features and much more. So stay tuned and check the official website.

King of Kings 3 – The Path of the Cleric

King of Kings 3 – The Path of the Cleric

In this last installment of our feature series on the classes in the upcoming clan warfare MMORPG King of Kings 3 we’ll shed some light on the cleric and the different specializations available to him. The cleric goes into battle armed with a hammer and dressed in a robe or leather armor. At Level 50 players can choose to develop their character into a scholar, a bishop or a priest. The scholar assists his party with spectacular healing and resurrection spells. A bishop can summon guardian angels that improve physical and magic resistance.

Buffs the priest conjures increase party members’ defenses and strength, among other things. Eventually the cleric will be able to choose from the following:

Specializations of the Scholar:
Saint: He uses holy magic to greatly reduce damage to himself and his allies. Area-of-effect spells affect multiple opponents at the same time.
– Devil: Dark creatures battle on the devil’s side. Vampires increase his damage and the king of the undead bestows his favor upon him by deflecting damage.
– Sage: Many of his skills are aimed at attacking groups. He can also make monsters his allies for a short period of time.

Specializations of the Bishop:
– Archbishop: His skills increase his attack power. He can also remove his opponents’ buffs, thus causing them great damage.
– Heretic: The heretic summons guardians to assist him in battle or to be sacrificed in order to cause large amounts of damage to his opponents. His ability to keep enemies from being able to use spells is also very helpful.
– Elder: Holy power increases the elder’s life force and attack power. He can absorb enemy damage to help out his allies. When faced with a dangerous situation, the elder turns to stone and becomes invincible for a short time.

Specializations of the Priest:
– Prophet: His powerful mantras reinforce and heal his allies. An especially powerful mantra turns all members of his group into metal guardians.
– Dark Priest: When the Insane God possess the dark priest, his attack power and hit points are increased. He can also conjure an ultimate guardian.
– High Priest: The high priest has the elemental gods to thank for his special powers. The power of the Water God makes area of effect spells possible while the Fire God provides immunity to enemy fire spells.

Guilds Wars 2: My Most Anticipated MMORPG

Guild Wars 2: My Most Anticipated MMORPG
By Joshua Temblett (Dontkillmydreams), OnRPG Journalist

From the second ArenaNet announced Guild Wars 2, I’ve been hyped for it.  The reason is quite simple; ArenaNet is one of the best game developers around.  What makes them one of the best is that the company thinks outside of the box.  They don’t follow trends or copy others; they go their own way, and create a fresh game play experience for all to enjoy.  That’s not the only reason I’m looking forward to Guild Wars 2 though.  Read on and see why I can’t wait to get my hands on this gem.

Guild Wars Was Such A Great Game!

The first Guild Wars is amazing.  It is designed to fit both the casual and hardcore gamers’ schedule.  For the casual gamer, there is easy to get into PVP content, and a low level cap.  For the hardcore gamer there is a variety of armour/weaponry to get, as well as Elite Missions and Guild V Guild Tournaments.

To put it simply, there is something for everyone in Guild Wars.  Not only that, but every segment of game is perfectly crafted for its purpose.  Everything from mission structure to the fundamental game play elements were created with passion, and care.  Guild Wars is a masterpiece of design, so when I think about how the sequel will take the core concept of the original and expand it, I can’t help but get excited.

Guild Wars 2

ACTION!

I don’t know about you, but I’m a bit tired of the standard MMORPG format.  The one where you just watch your character stand in front the monster, slowly but surely depleting its health.   I want to feel like I’m actually doing something, that I’m actually in control and determining what my avatar is doing.  I don’t just want to be his baby sitter.  Guild Wars 2 hopes to change the status quo with a more action orientated battle system.

By action I don’t mean running around, blowing things up.  Instead I mean actually doing actions and controlling my character.  Yes, I know in World of Warcraft I am controlling my character, but it doesn’t feel like that.  I don’t feel like I’m getting any response from combat system.  It shouldn’t be me sitting at my PC, watching my character hit an enemy with his sword automatically.  Instead it should be me deciding when my avatar should hit the enemy with his sword.

Guild Wars 2

Enter, Guild Wars 2.  Every action in battle, you decide.  After you make the choice of which action to do, you get a response.  You might see your character rush towards the enemy and strike them, and you’ll hear the sound of your character’s sword hitting.  You get that kind of response with Guild Wars 2.  You can see what you’re doing and see how you, as a gamer, are contributing to the fight.  Don’t believe me?  Then maybe you should check out the battle system.

Dynamic Events

Let’s not beat around the bush here, MMORPGs aren’t very good at engrossing you in the world.  Now some would argue that this is because of the multiplayer aspect of the genre.  For example, you might be walking around “The Undercity” in World of Warcraft when all of a suddenly a Tauren will run up to you and say “Lolz, haiz man!  I lovez ur gear?  Cnaz u trade wit me?  Then I go quest n kill n00bs.”  Which completely destroys the atmosphere previously set by the environment.

In fact I’ve been playing Final Fantasy IX as of late, and I find myself becoming incredibly engrossed in the game’s world.  This is partly because I haven’t got someone running up to me every five minutes asking “LFP Warrior!”  But it’s also because the world has been carefully crafted, and the story elements fit together with the world.  There’s nothing to disengage me from the world.  With MMORPGs it’s different though.  Whilst the worlds in MMORPGS are normally crafted with great care, having someone standing still next to a market with a giant exclamation mark over their head, doesn’t exactly pull you into the game.

Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 hopes to provide a dramatic change to this quest format.  Long gone are the exclamation wearing NPCs that dish out quests like they were hot sauce.  Instead world changes and quests will appear in real time.

Instead of going up to an NPC who asks for your help, and then having to go to a particular area to complete the quest, Guild Wars 2 does it much differently.  You might be walking along in the persistent world (more about that later), only to be suddenly confronted by an NPC who asks you for help.  This NPCs house might be getting attacked by a horde of monsters, and it’ll be your job to get rid of them.  Once you get rid of the monsters, they’ll stay gone until something in the world triggers the monsters to attack again.  There’s no “Accept” button either, instead you just help the character out.  Not only that, but other players can help to and they gain experience, just like you do, depending on how much they contribute to the dynamic event. Once again, this shows that Guild Wars 2 is breaking the mold, and that’s why I love it.

You Only Pay Once

This is one of the best things about Guild Wars 2.  You only have to pay for the game once, and that’s when you purchase it.  You won’t have to pay for anything else.  There are no monthly, or hidden, fees.  This means that I can stop playing the game at any point in time, and then return to it whenever I want to.  My characters will always be there, waiting for me. I suspect that there will be a small cash shop for Guild Wars 2, as there was for the original Guild Wars, which will contain a few, fun items.   For example, character costumes, another character slot, or extra storage space.

But that’s the thing, I have no problem with giving ArenaNet some money for another character slot, and that’s because the company is just so darn nice.  You can tell that the guys at ArenaNet love their community, and the games that bring them together.  To put it simply, ArenaNet is awesome.

Guild Wars 2

Persistent World

The Co-Founder of ArenaNet, Jeff Strain, once said: “Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It’s not true – you know it, and they know it.” The fact that Guild Wars 2 will have a fully realised, persistent world and ArenaNet won’t charge you a dime to play in it is a tribute to Jeff’s statement.  It’s also challenging the status quo, its forcing MMORPG developers to think about where they get their revenue.  After all, why should consumers pay-to-play a game, when he/she could get the same experience for free?

So there we have it, the reasons why I am so incredibly hyped for Guild Wars 2.  If you’re an MMORPG gamer, then you should be excited as well.  Why?  Because it’ll completely change the genre forever.

Bounty Bay’s New Atlantis Expansion Goes Live

Bounty Bay’s New Atlantis Expansion Goes Live

Atlantis is the fourth add-on to the seafaring MMO Bounty Bay Online which goes online today with English, German and French language versions. As with its predecessors, Atlantis is completely free-to-play. To mark the occasion, all players will be rewarded with double experience points as well as be able to take part in three daily in-game events which run until next Wednesday.

The expansion offers high-level players an array of new features such as two new regions each boasting multi-level instances with adjustable difficulty settings. Players can expect new armour sets replete with new bonuses, and an achievement system for explorers, an increased level cap (from 120 to 150), a crafting system, and much more in Bounty Bay Online – Atlantis.

On the previously undiscovered tropical Bimini Islands players will find a hidden entrance to the legendary underwater city of Atlantis. Dangerous sea monsters and indigenous tribes lurk in the various areas of this sunken metropolis waiting to pick off unsuspecting explorers. The King’s Tomb instance is also a perfect way for players to prove their talents. This two-level instance offers a range of new challenges available in two different difficulty settings. The second region, the icy Northern Islands, stand in stark contrast to the warm and verdant landscapes of the Bimini Islands. This snowy landscape is teeming with gigantic yetis, aggressive werewolves and bloodthirsty vampire for players to overcome. The barren tundra of these islands also conceals another double-level group instance playable in three difficulty settings.

The newly-added Achievement System for explorers provides players in Bounty Bay Online with the opportunity of receiving in-game currency or items as rewards for special discoveries which can be collected throughout the course of the game. These are separated into three categories, biological, industrial and cultural discoveries.

Scientist Agree Gaming Makes us Better

Scientist Agree Gaming Makes us Better

According to researchers at the University of Rochester (N.Y.), action gamers, specifically players who play first-person-shooters (FPS), like Combat Arms, are able to make quicker, more accurate decisions compared to non-gamers.

The results of the researchers from the University of Rochester were published in the Sept. 14 issue of Current Biology. The scientists say that FPS players’ improved decision making comes from the unpredictable nature of their gaming experiences. These improved skills can be transferred to tasks outside of the game.

To help continue improving players decision making skills this week, Nexon America is adding more weapons to Combat Arms’ industry-leading arsenal, as well as a new mode, “Seize and Secure,” the twelfth game mode available in the game.

Nexon America is adding more weapons to Combat Arms' industry-leading arsenal, as well as a new mode, "Seize and Secure," the twelfth game mode available in the game.

“We see Combat Arms as a community service,” said Davy Garaix, Nexon America’s producer of Combat Arms. “We’ve helped millions of people improve their decision making through action-packed armed battles. Using our patented near-critical ‘nut shot,’ no telling how many accidents this has prevented or how much we have made lives better. We have so many ways for players to raise their decision making skills, that perhaps in real life, Combat Arms players could be considered almost super heroes.”

The additions coming this week to Combat Arms include the TPG-1 sniper rifle set, which should help people improve their visual judgment; a new survival machete, which will help improve physical reactions; and a rare assault rifle, the M14EBR, which will improve player’s ability to shoot their enemies in the head during game matches.

The goal of the new “Seize and Secure” mode, aside from helping improve players think quicker, is to activate the flag trigger of a flagpole to raise a team’s flag to the top. To win this mode, players must keep their team’s flag raised on the flagpole for two consecutive minutes, or, in a tiebreaker case, have the most points.

Combat Arms will also continue to implement head up display improvements as well as add the ability for players to gift gear point (GP) items to each other.
