Elsword Introduces Eve the Queen of Ancient Nasad

Elsword Introduces Eve the Queen of Ancient Nasad

Players will soon have the option to use a brand new character while battling through the thrilling dungeons and formidable bosses of side-scrolling MMO Elsword. Launching on Wednesday, November 23, melee combat queen, Eve, will be live in-game to lend her unique brand of fighting to Elsword players just in time for the Thanksgiving weekend!

Rather than relying on old standbys such as swords and bows, Eve breaks the mold by calling upon large and small robotic guardians to fight for her. Eve also stays out of harm’s way by utilizing strong fighting skills and employing sneaky attacks, such as summoning her guardian Oberon to warp in to her defense. Chaining together Eve’s distinctive assaults, players can exercise her ability to convert HP into MP, giving her more frequent access to special features such as invisibility cloaking, for a brief but powerful advantage over opponents. In addition to her longer-range basic strike capabilities, Eve boasts solid combos and a double-jump skill, which may come in handy during intense one-on-one skirmishes. She’s sure to change up veteran players’ tactics in the PvP battlegrounds.

“Based on the massive popularity of Eve in overseas iterations of Elsword, it was important to us that North American players also had the chance to experience the game through such an extraordinary character,” said Ben Colayco, CEO of Kill3rCombo. “A rarity in most action MMOs, Eve’s one-of-a-kind style is not only unlike any playable character out there, but is also indicative of future characters and original experiences that will elevate Elsword to the next level.”

In Elsword, players can choose from five specialized and customizable characters, including the newly-added Eve, as they explore immersive maps and battle to complete dynamic quests. As gamers progress through the game, they will have the opportunity to evolve their fighting styles by upgrading to new job classes and watching as their chosen character matures and gains more abilities and combos. With intuitive and straightforward controls, Elsword offers players of all skill levels the chance to defeat enemies and deal damage, either on a solo mission or cooperatively in a party of up to four players. For those who welcome a challenge, Elsword also delivers action-packed PvP combat.

League of Legends: Shaken, Not Stirred

League of Legends: Shaken, Not Stirred

By Jason Harper (Hhean), OnRPG MOBA Reporter

Welcome summoners, to the patch v1.0.0.129 article for League of Legends, the game that is just bubbling with enthusiasm. This patch includes new mastery trees, reworked summer spells and Fizz, The Tidal Trickster.

Fizz is a highly mobile assassin, focused on an evasive, hit and run style of play. When played properly, he can be an incredibly annoying pest that keeps picking off vulnerable members of an enemy team while suffering no repercussions in return. He’s most likely going to be enjoyed by people who like similarly evasive assassins like Shaco or Akali.

One of the interesting things about Fizz is that he can deal damage while running away, juking or using other abilities. This is made possible by Seastone Trident [W], an auto attack enhancing steroid with both a passive and active component. The passive adds a damage over time that deals magic damage over a very short period, becoming more powerful the lower the health of the target. The active adds even more damage, and also reduces the healing on the target, preventing even sustainable characters from avoiding Fizz’s withering assault. Getting a full three stacks of this on an enemy, and keeping it on them as their health plummets is the cornerstone of Fizz’s attack plan.

Getting in close enough to land those auto attacks is a complete doddle on Fizz, given his vast array of movement abilities. That would be good enough, but those same abilities are also designed with evasion in mind, giving all of his kit except Seastone Trident a dual purpose. This dual nature is even found in his passive, Nimble Fighter, letting him move straight through minion waves to hit his foes. This gives him some great harass against melee opponents, moving back and forth through minions as the damage over time whittles them down. What’s even better though is this passive can make him nearly immune to minion damage while jungling, giving him an incredibly safe time in the wilderness without even needing life steal.

Urchin Strike [Q] continues with this theme. On the surface, it’s a targeted dash attack that applies an on hit effect as you make contact with the target. However, the interesting part of this ability is it travels a set distance rather than simply moving straight to the target. The most common use of this is that it will pass through the target and land Fizz some distance away from them, or at least on the other side of them. This is, of course, perfect for juking skill shots when closing ground. Wait until the enemy begins their startup animation, and then dash in for a bit of Seastone Trident enhanced beat down. Getting behind someone also lets this become a great escape maneuver, slipping past an enemy for a brief moment, letting them think you’re going one way, only to quickly dash through them and head off in the opposite direction.

What really makes Fizz truly a slippery denizen of the deep though is his Playful/Trickster [E]. The first hop caused by Playful makes Fizz immune to all damage, provided he’s still airborne. It’s very important to note that during the start up animation of the ability, when he’s hopping from his trident, he can still be attacked, so hitting this ability too late is just as bad as hitting it too early. It has a very narrow window of execution, so trying to play Fizz under the oppression of high latency is not advised.

After hopping through the air, you can choose to have Fizz stay where he is, and drop straight from where he landed (resulting in a large blast that slows the enemy) or make use of Trickster, which is a second hop that will allow him to pass through some walls, but has a smaller blast and has no slow effect. This often results in interesting decisions when making use of the ability – Do I land on my enemy to slow them, or hop past them to cut off their escape?

His ultimate, Chum the Waters [R] also possess the capability for both assault and evasion. It’s a skillshot with a surprisingly long range that sticks a fish to an enemy champion if it hits, or stays on the ground if it misses. For a few seconds, this fish creates an area of effect, slowing anything that’ll pass through it, and will stick to a champion if they touch the fish itself. After a short delay, a shark pops out of the ground, deals damage and knocks anyone caught in the area to be knocked airborne. This has the obvious application of hurling a fish at someone, before following up with some generous application of trident to face as your victim is hurled into the air. Landing a hit from a distance is very satisfying, but risky, and is often best used after landing the slow from Playful. Less obviously though, the fish can be used to deliberately miss a target to block off movement, best served when in the jungle, where the fish cannot be walked around. This allows you to ward off pursuit while making a getaway, or channel enemies down a path that will lead them into a more favourable position for your team as they avoid the route not guarded by a massive hunter of the deep.

Oh, and the ultimate itself is also hilarious. Every time I see a Teemo being swallowed whole, I giggle like a school girl.

Take a level in Seastone Trident at first. Urchin Strike is a great grab at level 2. Playful/Trickster is best grabbed at level 4. While Seastone Trident is the obvious ability to max first, which of his abilities you grab for your second choice depends on your choice of build, and the role you’re filling in your team. Maxing Playful/Trickster second will give Fizz a greater team fight presence, allowing him to avoid damage more often, while also simultaneously giving him great area of effect damage for both team fights and farming. This is better suited to a pure mage build, due to him both being squishier and therefore needing the protection, and also that it has a good AP ratio for an area of effect ability. If you’re going for a burlier, more attack speed orientated build, then maxing Urchin Strike second is going to be the better choice to maximize his single target killing power.

For items, start with boots and health potions in a lane, or cloth armour and health potions in the jungle. There’s also a more risky, but satisfying option of starting with an ability power tome and a single health potion when trying an AP jungle build, though I don’t recommend it. Prospector’s Ring, boots and health potions are used in Dominion land.

Your itemization should priorities ability power and attack speed, with enough survivability as you think you need. This means that his itemization options can be quite broad, depending on how you’re planning on using him. Rod of Ages and Rabadon’s Deathcap are core items for a mage based Fizz. Malady and Wit’s End are both good choices on a bruiser Fizz before tanking up. Going half way on the builds and simply using all four is also possible, but you’ll have to prioritize one before the other. Please don’t buy a Rylai’s Crystal Sceptre or Nashor’s Tooth on him. He has enough slows as it is, and Nashor’s Tooth overall is a pretty poor item.

I’ve been running a pretty odd rune page on Fizz. Magic penetration marks, armour seals, attack speed glyphs and flat ability power quintessences provide me a little bit of everything that I want on the little critter. With the right combination of masteries, this lets you perform an AP jungle run, though it’s weaker than the more common AD jungle rune page being used for him (See my previous article if you’re interested in that).

For his masteries I just got out my tried and true… hang on a second. What are all these weird icons on my screen? Well, this is embarrassing; it seems I’ll to have to break from my usual format for a moment.

The new masteries are excellent, giving you much greater flexibility in how you want to build a character. Some trees are no-brainers for certain roles, like having at least 21 points in the offense tree is going to be used by near enough every mage for some time. However, for characters that don’t quite fit into one role, or have to balance their offensive and defensive options, it opens up some interesting levels of customization.

Fizz, for example, doesn’t really fall into a mage role, nor is he fully an assassin in the same manner as say, Talon. This allows him to go for a very wide ranging set of load outs to suit individual tastes, or simply where he’s going to specialize in a given team composition. I personally prefer a 21/9/0 build on him, but where those points go within the tree I’ve been mixing up a fair bit. Attack damage and speed helps him a great deal in the early game, especially when jungling, but I’ve been finding that an ability power build lets him do some hefty damage later on. Balancing ability power and attack speed on the offensive mastery tree produces some very interesting results. I did try out putting my points into utility, but found them a bit wasted, since Fizz doesn’t really need any mana regeneration, gold gain or movement speed. He’s got low costs on his spells, kills everything for money and is already slippery enough without a speed boost.

Before even considering playing Fizz, be aware that while a well played Fizz is a complete beast, a poorly played Fizz is nothing more than chum for your enemies. He has an incredibly high skill ceiling, and I doubt I’ve uncovered even half of his tricks during my few days of play. I’ve certainly not been able to fit all of the tricks I’ve found into this article, let alone the ones I haven’t found yet. While I don’t usually recommend the idea of ‘maining’ any one character in League of Legends, Fizz has enough depth to him that I think the more time you sink into him, the more he gives back in return.

If played properly, I think he’s one of the strongest characters in the game at the moment, and has the potential to be game breaking when all of his tools are used to their fullest. In competitive, high level play I see him as a worthwhile ban, but in low or even mid level play I don’t see him as a threat. A bad, or even mediocre Fizz is really not something that’s too scary, since Fizz’s strength comes from reacting well to enemy actions, not blowing up stupid people. I’m wondering if Riot is going to be able to balance such a character, given the previous difficulties with Oriana, who had a similarly high skill cap, albeit for different reasons.

Lime Odyssey Interview w/ GM_Venom

Lime Odyssey Interview w/ GM_Venom

By Bryan King, OnRPG Journalist

There’s been no shortage of new MMOs in Q4 2011. Let’s face it, it’s a competitive market, and an abundance of new games is sure to keep gamers busy this season. Aeria Games recently announced the opening of the website and upcoming Alpha Test for their new title, Lime Odyssey. Developed by Sirius Entertainment, the game shares many of the old developers who worked on the legendary title Ragnarok Online. I got to sit down with GM_Venom of Aeria Games to discuss the title, and what players can expect to see when the game opens its doors.

OnRPG: Hi, GM_Venom, before we begin, could you introduce yourself to readers? How did you become so involved with Aeria Games and Lime Odyssey?

GM_Venom: I am a game launch assistant for Aeria Games and have currently been heavily involved in QA and community management for Lime Odyssey.

GM_Venom Surrounded by numerous fangirls (and guy) in Kitsu Saga CB

OnRPG: Is there any storyline within Lime Odyssey that players should know about?

GM_Venom: We feel the storyline in Lime Odyssey is compelling and brings a lot of intrigue to the game.  The “Lime” in Lime Odyssey refers to a magical fruit that is believed to come directly from the goddess Nysis. This magical artifact had awesome power, and was used by all races to do great things, such as keep the magical Muris home city of Pripet floating in the air. A cruel Tyrant hoarded the lime to himself and used it to fuel his army, plunging the world into chaos and literally shattering the continent into several smaller lands, which now drift apart.

But the Goddess Nysis could not stand her powers being abused so terribly, and one day almost all the lime vanished from Orta. Hundreds of years after these events, every race is still struggling to rebuild the once-peaceful land.  Wild rumors of the Lime artifact inspire young adventurers who seek this power to restore the glory of an age almost forgotten.

OnRPG:   Lime Odyssey has a wide variety of unique races, each with their own traits, advantages, and story. Can you give us a description of these races, and which is your favorite?

GM_Venom: Each race provides a great backstory and a completely different area to adventure through during the beginning to early mid game.  Other than that, however, there aren’t specific traits or stats for each race. We leave it to the player hone their character’s skills and traits.

The Humans are seafaring farmers in this world, struggling to get by through farming coral off a tropical Island to sell and trade. The humans have a very “rebellious explorer” feel to them and their homeland. As a young human adventurer, you’ll seek out Lime to help restore your people’s former glory and prosperity.

The Turga are a race a noble and hardy Lion-like people, and have made the savage tundra of West Tumbara their homeland. Turga honor strength and courage, and live a life of battle. Since the tumultuous events of the Tyrant, the Turga have been at war with a race called the Kriegers, to which they have lost most of their land. As a Turga, you seek Lime to restore you honor and retake your land.

The Muris are a curious and magical race of small Mouse-like creatures. Their Home City, Pripet, resides on Haze Island, which floats in the air. Since the Lime disappeared, the city has slowly been sinking downward, barely held up by magic and the Lime scraps gathered by the Muris. As a Muris adventurer you seek to explore the world and bring back Lime to keep your people afloat.

OnRPG: What type of gameplay features can players expect to see in terms of combat? Will they be seeing anything like raids, dungeons, and instanced PvP?

GM_Venom: Lime Odyssey will have both instanced and non-instanced dungeons right out of the gate, offering a wide variety of fearsome foes to slay and gilded treasures to seek. Raids and Instanced PvP are not available yet during closed beta testing, but players can look forward to features like these coming later. We’re confident players will have their hands full fighting off monsters and traveling the HUGE world in Lime Odyssey for quite a while.

OnRPG: Is there a housing system in Lime Odyssey?

GM_Venom: There is not a housing system currently in the game but players can look forward to this feature coming out to Lime as well. Luckily Lime Odyssey offers expansive crafting, pets, guild and farming features should players feel the domestic itch while traversing the continent Orta.

OnRPG: What is the “Trade Class” system?

GM_Venom: In Lime Odyssey, crafting is not an afterthought. Your character must adopt a Battle class, which is a traditional character class, and a Trade Class. The trade class can be a chef, tailor, or blacksmith. Your choice determines what kind of gathering and crafting you’ll be tasked with in Lime Odyssey.  You have trade class quest lines, trade class exp, and even a full set of equipment you wear just for your trade class. So you can be a ferocious warrior… who also moonlights as a tailor.

OnRPG: What was the inspiration for the art style?

GM_Venom: Lime Odyssey has a unique style that draws from many influences, but if you look at the game you definitely notice the heritage from Ragnarok Online as well as references to popular modern 3D styles.

OnRPG: Lime Odyssey is hailed as the “real successor” to Ragnarok. How did the original game serve as inspiration for the creation of this title?

GM_Venom: This game is considered to be the “true sequel” because many of the original developers from Ragnarok Online moved over to form Sirius Entertainment, the developers of Lime Odyssey. When you play the game, it is easy to see Lime’s art style as a natural progression from Ragnarok Online into the 3D realm.

The environments will also remind players of the varied zones from Ragnarok, each vibrant and crafted full of character.

OnRPG: How hard was the transition from the Korean service to a North American/English Speaking one?

GM_Venom: We are taking extra care with this game to make sure the localization, in both text and voice, is fun and interesting.  It has not been easy to pour over every line of dialog in such a big game, but we want everything to be just as polished as the beautiful graphics of this game.

OnRPG: What features disassociate Lime Odyssey from other anime-inspired F2P MMOs out there?

GM_Venom: Lime Odyssey contains several standout features. It offers the ability to freely transform between both your battle and life class, with equal emphasis on both. The world is large and creatively constructed, and offers the player a lot of freedom.  It adds more excitement to combat with the Burst gauge (a feature that temporarily adds extra boost that players build up by landing blows). It also features great social and messaging features so you can better enjoy it with your friends.

OnRPG: Out of these, what is your favorite feature?

GM_Venom: My favorite feature is the class switching. At first it may feel odd to press a button to switch to crafting mode, but the duality of the system means you can always switch it up and focus on something new whenever you want a break from your current quest line. In addition to this, the emphasis on crafting becomes extremely rewarding when you make your own set of armor and it exceeds the drops, quest rewards, and shop items around you!

OnRPG: How can players get involved in the Alpha Test that you guys recently announced?

GM_Venom: We are currently selecting from the players in our community. We are looking for passionate players with an eye for quality and a willingness to offer constructive feedback, since this is an early-stage alpha test. But the most important thing we are looking for are players that are active and helpful in the forum communities, since we always promote community as the best part of an MMO, and we want to encourage players to participate it in.

OnRPG: What audience would you guys say would enjoy Lime Odyssey the most?

GM_Venom: I would not say that Lime Odyssey is specifically anime themed, as it has its own style, but I feel that players who previously enjoyed anime MMO’s will be incredibly pleased with Lime Odyssey. It is also more mature in style than many of Aeria’s previous anime MMOs, so it will have appeal to the more hardcore audience.

OnRPG: When can we expect to see Lime Odyssey in retail launch?

GM_Venom: At this stage of development, we are still planning to execute several testing phases and will target Q1 for a commercial release.

OnRPG: Anything else you’d like to share?

GM_Venom: We encourage prospective players to visit the Lime Odyssey forums, which are rife with events, info and general LO chatter at the moment. And of course, visit the website if you’re interested in becoming a closed beta tester: http://limeodyssey.aeriagames.com.

OnRPG: Thank you so much for your time!

Combat Arms Releases Submarine Level

Combat Arms Submarine Map Released

Action fans can now infiltrate the newly constructed submarine base code named Operation Neptune in Combat Arms, Nexon’s high intensity F2P FPS. The completion of this top-secret project has been leaked to enemy squads, who are organizing to seize and unleash the destructive capabilities of the submarine’s nuclear power. Players can fight in the corridors above the Submarine, or snipe from the balconies overlooking it. Soldiers must tread carefully, as those who attempt to access the map’s Submarine level will self-destruct.

Nexon also added the M99-II Sniper Rifle to “Combat Arms,” as the first Chinese weapon in the game. The anti-material rifle can unleash devastating force against enemy soldiers.

Players can also look forward to opening the new MYST Supply Crate. Hailed as the MYST-India, the Crate includes the brand new NX-Rare Assault Rifle, AT-22. MYST Supply Crates contain NX-Rare and NX-Standard weapons with a chance of scoring one for a Permanent duration.

Players can now get pumped for battle by listening to their own music in the game lobby. Adding music files to the “Combat Arms’” Jukebox folder lets players groove to their favorite tunes while synchronizing their victory dance.

The clock is ticking faster as “Combat Arms” players anticipate the unveiling of the massive Black Friday Blow-Up sale event. Every week leading up to Nov. 25, players will be challenged to reach a designated number of “Like”s on the “Combat Arms’” Facebook page. Reaching that number will upgrade the event by adding even more weapons to the sale list. One example of the spectacular deals that players are looking forward to unlocking is the MYST-Infinity case, which guarantees a Permanent duration primary weapon every time.
