C9 has received five awards, including the Grand Prize, in one of Korea’s most prestigious award ceremonies, the Korea Game Awards, and is very well-known for its action-packed game play. Its various character customizing options, precise control system and varieties of skill combos has grabbed many gamer’s attention which leaded to great success with over 420,000 users enjoying it on the first day of service in South Korea.

Among the nine continents of C9, based on the storyline, the first three continents will be available during the VIP Test. Selectable classes will be the Fighter, Hunter and Shaman. With a level cap of 50, each character can choose one of three different advanced classes at level 20 which is a total of 9 classes.

Blacklight Retribution First Impressions

Blacklight Retribution First Impressions

By Mohammad Abubakr, OnRPG Journalist

Perfect World Entertainment continues to pump out new releases and their latest game Blacklight Retribution does not disappoint. Although the game is still in its beta phases, it plays great and provides hours of entertainment to its players. Like all FPS games it recycles the typical FPS style but also brings new and exciting features to the table.

In this day and age, everyone should know how a FPS game is played. Players use their WASD keys to maneuver their character while using their mouse to aim and fire. This remains the same in Blacklight Retribution as no shooting techniques were added. It is still locate, scope and fire to land kills.

This game was made to be a shooter paced faster than Counter Strike but slower than Tribes. The maps are medium sized with various hiding and flanking areas but the built in Hyper Reality Visor (HRV) makes sure there is always action. The HRV is basically a built in map hack. It allows players to see enemies and allies through walls. This feature keeps the game going and always keeps you on your toes. If you have never been a fan of campers, you will love HRV.

The HRV in action.

To maintain some balance, I have noticed that while the HRV consumes an energy bar when in use, it can only be activated if you have full energy. This means that players cannot use the HRV constantly while walking around to always have knowledge about an enemy’s whereabouts.

Just like every other FPS game, it offers the basic game modes. Currently in the beta the game offers: deathmatch, team deathmatch, domination, capture the flag and king of the hill.

All of these game modes are self explanatory as we have all seen them used in other FPS games. However, while playing the game I came to love one simple yet effective feature offered in domination.

As we all know, the domination game mode is the typical control point game mode. Opposing teams battle it out to reign over multiple control points until the goal is reached. In most FPS games players simply need to stand by the control points to capture them.

Team MVPs

In Blacklight Retribution, capturing points is not that simple. Players must play a very simple hacking game to capture the control point. While this mini game is very simple, players just need to match numbers using their keyboard, it offered something new to the game mode. This very simple mini game forces players to complete it very fast because of the action surrounding the player. It is great to see Zombie studios adding new features to already existing game modes and would love to see what other innovations they have up their sleeves.

Blacklight uses a points system to award skilled players during matches. Points are earned by doing basically everything that is beneficial to yourself or your team. Some examples include kills, defending and capturing control points.

These points get reset every round and can be used in game at weapon depots to purchase upgraded weapons such as the rocket launcher and flamethrower. These upgraded weapons are dropped on death and can be picked up by other players.

The weapon depots also offer items such as health and ammo refills but the item everyone is aiming for is the Hardsuit. When purchased, your character is basically given a mech suit to be worn! This is a very powerful weapon both in terms of damage and survivability. However, you will have to spend a good deal of the game conserving your points to unlock it.

While a player equipped with this suit is very hard to kill, the HRV can be used to locate the suit’s randomly generated weak spot. Shooting this weak spot will cause the suit to take ten times the normal damage.

I do not see myself using the weapon upgrades from the weapon depot for reasons other than killing players in Hardsuits. If a player uses the flamethrower on a Hardsuit, they can burn the player which allows them to steal the Hardsuit! An educational video was prepared by PWE demonstrating this very maneuver!

Why can’t I just buy the item?!

The game allows for a lot of customization to suit every player’s playstyle but I was disappointed when I saw the shop.

You gain credits by completing rounds or purchasing them with real cash. Unfortunately these credits cannot simply be used to purchase items you are interested in. Instead they are used to rent items. You decide how much you want to pay between various options with the highest cost allowing longer rental periods.

I hate this feature in FPS games as players are forced to continuously play to effectively use their hard earned credits. It also means that if players do not play enough to earn sufficient credits before their expiration date, they will be forced to play using different play styles until they can purchase their weapon. Finally, it also limits the number of weapons a player can own. If your old weapons keep expiring, it is quite hard to maintain a large number of weapons.

All in all, this is a great F2P FPS game. While it may not offer completely unique gameplay, the game does a great job at recycling the classic FPS style while still adding new features such as the Hardsuit and HRV. Keep in mind that these are just my first impressions, the game is still in beta and could change for the better or worse. I would just love to see the weapon rental feature be reworked or replaced.

Blacklight Retribution is going into its next closed beta phase today so be sure to check it out for yourselves!

Seven Souls Online coming to North America this Spring

Seven Souls Online coming to North America this Spring

A series of bloody battles awaits players in the “blitz-paced” MMORPG Seven Souls Online from NEOWIZ GAMES. Set to launch in North America this spring, Seven Souls Online is currently accepting pre-registration for closed beta testers at the game’s official website!

Seven Souls Online allows players to unleash their inner demon in a fantasy world which combines the ancient East and West, fused with elements of science-fiction. Players can choose from three character classes, the magic-enhanced Manatech Rebel, the savage Imperial Guard and the cunning Exiled Avenger, and then slaughter their way through vast armies of enemies.

Additional Seven Souls Online features include:

Rage Mode – With the push of a button, players can turn their characters into gruesome monsters for increased attack strength and critical attack chance.

Book of Lost Souls – This book is one of the game’s most distinctive features. It not only tells the background story, but also differentiates each class from others by providing distinctive skills and power-ups.

Enchant and Cube Systems – Players can enjoy easy-to-use Enchant and Cube Systems to enforce or dismantle their items and weapons. The randomness aspect allows players to acquire extremely rare items.

Anti-Bot – Seven Souls Online does not welcome hunting bots. The anti-bot system will penalize excessive hunters while rewarding loyal, quest-completing players.

“Seven Souls Online will raise the bar for free-to-play MMORPGs in the North American market,” said John Nam, COO of NEOWIZ GAMES Inc. “The game is set to provide an electrifying online free-to-play experience with its distinctive features and gorgeous graphics.”

Eden Eternal Releaes Samurai Class and More

Eden Eternal Releases Samurai Class and More

Aeria Games today launched the latest patch for its highly popular free-to-play MMORPG, Eden Eternal, further expanding upon the game’s already robust content. The offerings in this content update include the new Samurai class, a totally revamped Territory Wars mode and the new Monster Battle Arena, allowing for even more intense player versus player combat.

The katana-wielding Samurai class has slashed its way to Eden Eternal and is fierce in close combat. This powerful DPS class utilizes a variety of buffs and physical attacks such as the “Asura Slash,” an airborne attack that will damage even the toughest foes.

The addition of the Monster Arena will have players excitedly queuing up, now that they have the ability to play as one of their favorite dungeon boss monsters in 3v3 PvP action. Players will team up, and will be able to win Honor Stars that are redeemable for valuable items.

Also included in this content patch:

Improved Territory Wars: Players can enjoy revamped Territory Wars where guilds band together to take down the opposing team.

Level 60 Hero’s Trial Dungeons: Explore two brand new extensive dungeons with new bosses and gear.

Tarot Card Reader: The newly introduced NPC Morlin offers 10 percent bonus to a randomly selected class tree

SWTOR: Journey of a Sith Episode 2

Star Wars The Old Republic: Journey of a Sith Episode 2

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG Journalist

In last week’s SWTOR column I reached level 10 and had chosen my advanced class at last. I decided to go for the Sith Assassin to better roleplay as a sneaky backstabber. If you read the opening of this series last week you will know that I left off just as I stepped aboard the Black Talon flashpoint with a group of random players!

After looking at every store in the Imperial Fleet and visiting the VIP store which is specially made for players that preordered a Collector’s Edition or the Digital Deluxe version, I found a group that was ready to go on its first adventure through space doing the Black Talon flashpoint. I went there together with a Sith sorcerer and he got the role of the healer and helped us a lot in the battles to come. We also brought with us a Sith marauder for the extra DPS and off tanking if needed. And the last player that joined our party of four was a Bounty Hunter that had the defensive abilities to help us out as a tank.

When we got into the Black Talon we all had to join the first conversation so it would start the checkpoint, when everyone was gathered around and buffed up we began the first scene of the flashpoint. We thought it was just a small flight through space to our destination but our hopes were crushed as a republic ship came into view. Teamwork was the key to surviving this flashpoint but unfortunately we figured that out too late as our party was decimated on the first boss because everyone just tried to DPS him down. This Flashpoint wasn’t your average MMORPG walk in the park dungeon and required us to establish some party roles before our second attempt. After our second try everything went much smoother and we didn’t have any trouble at all dealing with the first boss.

An interesting note of the Flashpoint is that in each conversation every player will automatically roll some sort of number to get the right to represent the group in the cutscene conversations. Luckily if you get a question where you can answer between Light and Dark, each player will always get his Alignment of choice regardless of what the party leader decides. But you will see the different outcome if a person with the other Alignment has won the higher roll. This will make each conversation a unique outcome for every experience if you go through the Flashpoint again.

After killing a lot of trash mobs along the way to the second boss it was time to discuss tactics. Since I had done the Flashpoint before during beta, I knew we had to kite the upcoming boss to prevent our marauder from getting destroyed in melee combat. Thanks to my superior education in the ways of the Sith, we were able to dispatch the second boss with no problems. Our coordination was growing rapidly and by the time the third boss came around he was no match for our deadly synergy.

The last boss we had to face was a Jedi Padawan with the name Yadira Ban. She is a really hard boss to tackle if you haven’t experienced her abilities before as her skill set is a real trip. The key is learning her skills and then calling out the signature animations and defending yourself appropriately. After a brief huddle our Sith superteam charged in. Unfortunately someone wasn’t paying attention and met a swift end at the hands of Yadira. This early handicap made the entire battle a struggle for survival and our marauder finally fell in exhaustion. Luckily the sorcerer had paid close attention to my prebattle lesson and kept out of reach of Yadira while I assumed the role of tank. It was a photo finish but Yadira finally fell with my hp bar barely visible! We quickly resurrected the other players and enjoyed a trial free ride to our destination of Dromund Kaas.

When I arrived at Dromund Kaas I did a few quests before heading to Kaas City in order to help the residents with their problems. Because the Black Talon was such a big Flashpoint I got to level 11 and was halfway through to the next level. My random and uncharacteristic acts of kindness in Kaas City leveled me to 12, and I decided a shopping spree was in order to celebrate. After fitting myself with some gear fitting a great Sith like myself I arrived at my new master’s office to report in.

I was tired of questing however and decided I would test my strength in some warzones because I am always up for some PvP. I got matched against some fellow players of the Empire in a game of Huttball and experienced the result of an addiction. After successfully winning the first warzone I was invited by a group of three players from the previous game to do some more games as a group. I thought why the heck not and played some warzones for several hours. I got to know each player and really kicked things off as we went undefeated throughout the evening. It wasn’t so much superior gear but superior coordination and focus on objectives that made us an unstoppable team.

Because of this successful group I leveled to fifteen without doing any quests and was behind on the story. Mobs don’t level up to match your level in SWTOR so the next few missions I ran were a breeze.  After rushing through the quests I was still way ahead of the level you had to be for the quest zones I was in which was quite frustrating since my addiction to jump back into more warzones was nagging at me. After completing all the quests on Dromund Kaas my master informed me that it was time to go intergalactic with my quest to collect special Artifacts…
