Past and Present Collide in Eden Eternal’s Stunning New Expansion

Past And Present Collide In Eden Eternal’s Stunning New Expansion

Eden Eternal

The eternally popular Eden Eternal is going stronger than ever today as Aeria Games announced the launch of a brand-new expansion. Shadows of the Past is a colossal new content update for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that ushers in a new age—literally.

Chief among the additions is the new Sage class, which is accessed in an unprecedented way. Players must undergo a series of trials, during which they will experience firsthand the saga of the lost Sage in a bygone age. Completion of these trials will fully unlock the new class, which players will need to challenge the Sage’s old enemies—the Shadowers—who have resurfaced in the present.

Eden Eternal

Plenty of other content arrives along with the new class and its intriguing story. The level cap has been raised to 70, and three new maps have been added for questing and exploration. Four new dungeons are also available for PvE. On the PvP side, players will continue to enjoy the recent addition of 10 vs. 10 arenas, which arrived shortly before today’s expansion.

“This is the first time that the lore has had something tied to the world’s past, a compelling story of the corruption of the Zumi race and why there are no Sages anymore,” said Andy Muesse, producer. “This expansion hits home for all of our users, and we’re very excited to keep this perennial favorite updated with lots of great content for our players.”

TERA: For the Federation S2 Ep4 – Hubris

TERA: For the Federation Season 2 Ep4: Hubris

By Darren Henderson (DizzyPW), OnRPG Editor-in-Chief

The minutes following the realization that the walls were closing in were quick and chaotic. Platy surrounded our battalion with a protective aura and pushed back against the walls, summoning multiple thralls of various shapes and sizes in an attempt to delay their movement. The men I had thought cowards moments ago now fought to the death without hesitation, Dougal constantly repeating the shout ‘forward or death,’ driving them on in an animalistic fashion not terribly different from the corrupt devas we now faced. Unfortunately our foes had no regard for defense and an all out offensive push was costing us more lives than we were taking, and the numbers were fast falling out of our favor. The guttural shouts of Kutmaschuk, the make-shift leader of the corrupt devas, continued to drive on their frenzied push against us, as we found ourselves back on the staircase with Dougal and I holding the baseline as our men desperately struggled to pull the injured out of harm’s way.

Everyone in the room was temporarily distracted as the last of Platy’s thralls of vengeance fell, and the roof began to cave in on top of us. The shouts of Kutmaschuk were brought to an end as a large stone fell straight into his open mouth, slamming his head into the ground and giving us the brief opening we had been waiting for. Jelena and Elleon rolled over top of Dougal and I, beckoning us to push through with them. They cut a maddening line of unbound flesh through the middle of the confused mass of Devas as we followed suit, our objective the nearly closed portal that Samael had escaped through. Platy teleported to the side and hopped on the back of his final thrall of protection, beckoning it to run for the portal as it clubbed and bashed an endless supply of Devas ready to hold him down to share the same fate they were bound to. The entire room was no more than eight feet high and twenty feet wide when the first of us reached the portal. The men at the back of the line, knowing they had no hope of reaching the light, began to cut down pursuing devas as rocks cut the spark of life from them in rapid succession. I turned back with the intention to help but Elleon’s firm hand fell on my shoulder, preventing any rash actions.

“I’ve had to suffer witnessing countless dozens of men under my command give their lives in the past year. And thousands more before it in the great elven wars. This is part of your life now Dizzy. Your only duty to them now is to live and make your life count so their sacrifice will one day mean something to the world.”

Elleon and Dougal charged forward into the portal along with a small handful of men that had managed to keep up with our sickening pace. It suddenly occurred to me that Platy was no where to be found. I then saw a lone thrall in the corner of the room battling off ten devas with Platy standing atop its shoulders firing off a solid stream of soul destroying poisons. The fiends writhed in pain and scratched as his feet in their feeble attempts to drag him from his perch before the room itself collapsed on them all. I pulled my chain from my back and handed one end of it to Jelena.

“Take this into the portal. Run until it’s taut. Then pull as hard as you can!” Jelena nodded wordlessly and rushed into the portal with the chain in hand. I then charged forward, my corrupted lance emitting a field of air that knocked everything out of the pathway between Platy and I. I reached out and grabbed his paw just as the chain tightened, pulling me onto my back as the ceiling shuttered and fell to a mere four feet above the ground. Platy and I gripped onto the chain, our minds blank as death shuttered above us a second time, lowering the ceiling to the point that I had to suck my belly in to fit through the narrow pathway. Our forms disappeared into blinding light as the room collapsed in a deadening thud, sending tropical birds flying to Castanica as the shockwave disturbed the peace in the local jungle.

I came to looking up at the surprised face of Dougal and bitter but relieved expression of Elleon. As I glanced to the side I had to blink and take a second look before my mind comprehended the new surroundings. From crumbling ruins we suddenly had emerged in some kind of mansion, the rough craftsmanship and demonic yet regal statues suggesting it was constructed during the Empire of the Giants in honor of a Castanic hero. Through the windows shown nothing but the same blinding light we had passed through to reach our destination. Platy scrambled to his feet, his pupils darting rapidly from one side of the room to the other as he held his twin wands together like dowsing rods.

“By the gods, such a place was said to be impossible to create even by the Pora Elinu Academy.”

“What are you going on about?” Dougal questioned, his stern voice failing to fully hide his natural human curiosity. Platy turned to him as if offended for not realizing the glory of their current situation.

“This room.. nay, this entire mansion is a a temporal seal. A place in the physical realm separated from reality to forever hold and repeat its designated time frame. It never ages, it never progresses, but the world around it continues as if it never had been. The fact the Scions of Lok even knew it existed.. it’s too impossible to be a coincidence or lucky guess. There is a god at work with plans for the revival of Lok and his people.”

“Impossible,” interjected Jelena, “This is called the Age of Mortals for a reason. The gods haven’t made their presence known for eons. They have all but abandoned us to forge our own destinies now.”

“But the evidence shows-” Platy’s rebuttal was interrupted by the hauntingly beautiful laugh of Akia, with Samael pointing forward at our battered and weary crew.

“I thought you carried the scent of knowledge when I met you at the Isle of Dawn, rodent,” mocked Akia.  “I never would have believed a non-believer would have realized the true nature of Lok’s revival. Surely a simple spear alone would not carry the catalytic power to bring back the great Warlord Lok.”

“Enough!” Samael yelled to drown out Akia’s overconfident rant. He gave a stern glare in Akia’s direction before speaking. “You said Elleon would die at the Isle of Dawn and here he stands.” He then looked at his closest follower Stadrian. “You assured me there was no escape from the mines Stadrian, and yet here Elleon stands.” He then walked forward, standing near toe to toe with Elleon. “And not in my wildest dreams did I imagine not only you, but an entire band of your men could have walked out of that death trap of a Devas filled ruins. Don’t you see Elleon? Your power is beyond imagination but your motives are confused. Join with me and we can forge an empire greater than that of the Elves at their peak. A federation empire ruled and protected by a true god, with the power to hunt down and destroy even the Argons where they nest.

“You’re mad Samael. Akia has twisted your mind beyond recognition of the great rising general I respected in the war. I could never allow my people to serve you after what you have done to dishonor the Federation.”

“Mad you say? Quite the contrary Elleon. Unlike you, I can see the picture. A big picture that includes me as the immortal ruler of Velika, undisputed capital of the Federation of Arborea!” At this Samael gripped onto Elleon’s shoulders as claws exploded from his nails, penetrating through Elleon’s flesh and causing his twin swords to fall from his hands. Jelena immediately launched into action, but was countered and knocked unconscious with one rapid shield counter strike from Stadrian.

“Hold them here Samael.” Akia shouted. “Buy me five minutes and I’ll have the Spear of Gidd in my position.” A chain flew through the air just over the heads of the suddenly gruesome looking Samael. Akia twirled backward acrobatically, spinning just out of range of the chain’s reaching grasp. She quickly disappeared up a nearby flight of stairs.

“Damn,” muttered Dougal through clenched teeth. “Everyone after her. We can’t let the Scions have that spear!” I prepared to charge forward but was blown back by the inhuman voice that now bellowed from Samael’s mouth.

“Ooo. You simple minded soldiers believe the gods can be challenged in the Age of Mortals? Your hubris will be the downfall of this world.” Samael ripped his claws from Elleon’s shoulders and tossed him across the room. Samael lifted his hands into the air as his facial features began to distort, eyes stretching wide and thin as his mouth’s edges spread wider, creating a look not unlike that of a jackal. Two dark red orbs formed into eyes amidst his forehead as metallic bone structures jutted from his jaw forming a helm made of exoskeleton.

“Strength is all that matters in this world. It’s all that ever mattered in this world. My strength will save this world from the Argons. And your pitiful efforts to stop me will be viewed as traitorous when I write the history of the Great Argon War. The Age of Mortals will be brought to an end with the ushering of a mortal becoming a God! Now prepare your weapons worms and taste the might of Arborea’s Emperor!”

WoW Wednesday: Raids, Scenarios, and World Bosses- oh my!

WoW Wednesday: Raids, Scenarios, and World Bosses-oh my!

By Meredith Watson, OnRPG Journalist

Currently there are 16 raid bosses being tested in World of Warcraft‘s beta servers; however, Mists of Pandaria will be staggering their raid release schedule so not all of them will be around on launch day.  The aim is not to stretch out content to buy time but rather to give everyone the opportunity to raid while exploring the new content. It isn’t just the staggering of raids that is new though. Mists of Pandaria is bringing back world bosses and introducing scenarios.

Raid Release Schedule:

Mists of Pandaria will be released September 25th. Mogu’Shan Vaults, the first raid instance, will be live on October 2nd in normal mode only. Five days later on the 7th Looking for Raid will be available. For those that have finished normal Mogu’Shan Vaults on normal, heroic will now be accessible at this time. October 30th will see the introduction of two more raids:  Heart of Fear and Terrace of Endless Spring, both normal difficulty. It is important to note that completing Heart of Fear will open Terrace of Endless Spring (normal).  The following week, on November 7th, the Looking for Raid for these two dungeons open. Again, in order to queue for Terrace of Endless Spring you will have had to have completed Heart of Fear on normal. Once completed on normal, queuing for the heroic difficulty becomes available.

Needless to say this gating of content is controversial. Officially blizzard says it is a “matter of striking a balance between preserving the feeling of guild progression and making the content accessible to players outside of organized guilds. We definitely want to see everyone have a chance to experience Mists of Pandaria raid content, so holding Raid Finder mode for a week feels like a reasonable window of time to accommodate players of all stripes.”  It seems as if Blizzard wants to reward players for raiding within a guild but also give casuals the opportunity to experience the content. Even the item level of gear rewards for these dungeons suggest this: 476 for raid finder, 489 for normal mode, and 502 for Heroic.

The idea of clearing one raid to get to the other is not entirely new to Blizzard, though it hasn’t been as cleverly enforced as this in the past.  However, it is nice to see Blizzard learning from the mistakes of Wrath of the Lich King.  During Wrath of the Lich King one could start their raiding in any of the raids dungeons providing they had the gear, which everyone could get. Gating raid instances should feel more like progression did in vanilla and The Burning Crusade where the raider had to progress through the tiers.  Old school raiders should be happy about this improvement.

The other thing the gating of content will hopefully achieve is the curtailing of certain top guilds rushing through content and/or clearing raids within the first couple of weeks. The developers have spent years designing Mists of Pandaria and want the players to enjoy it. They, like all craftsmen do, want their handiwork appreciated.

Blizzard has made it clear that they will not need to patch in new raids, reminding us that the staggering of raids is not because the content is unfinished but because Blizzard wants it this way. If you are so hardcore that you and your guild are bored waiting for the next raid to open you will be happy to know that world bosses are back. There will be two new world bosses when Mists of Pandaria is released: Salyis’s Warband and Sha of Anger. Salyis’s Warband will be quite rare but the Sha of Anger should be more frequent in its spawning. Both require full raids. Rewards include achievements, bragging rights and excellent loot.

Blizzard, with Mists of Pandaria, is also adding the Scenario.  What is a scenario you ask? If you’ve ever played Lord of the Rings Online this concept will be familiar to you. Basically a scenario is a short, story driven, PvE event meant for three level 90 players that is instanced. Scenarios are queued for as a regular dungeon would be; however, there are no specific roles so queuing should be a breeze.  In scenarios the goal will be completing a series of tasks similar to group quests.  Scenario rewards will include valour points and a loot bag containing rare quality items.

Two scenarios so far have been introduced: Greenstone Village and A Brewing Storm.   In Greenstone Village the local earth spirit Hui is angry with the villages for paying adventurers to remove the local wood sprites. Hui has now sent his minions to Greenstone Village to do their worst. In a Brewing Storm you will be escorting Brewmaster Blanche to the highest peak in Jade forest. As with any escort quest you will be fighting off mobs and with this particular one avoiding lightning strikes.

It is unclear at this point what type of player scenarios are aimed at.  If it is for players who don’t want to raid, run heroics or PvP then they wouldn’t need valour points as a reward. Therefore, it seems likely scenarios are meant to be just an extra little something to do to help with the gearing up for raiding.

Though raid instances won’t be immediately available come September 25th, there will be plenty to do with all the new content, dungeons, world bosses, and scenarios, and you likely won’t even know they aren’t there in that first week.  One thing is certain and that is that Blizzard is learning from its mistakes, continuing to stay current and, most of all, giving us a great game to play.  This is the most subscribed to game for a reason y’know.

Scarlet Legacy

GamesCampus has added a new storyline and increased the level cap for the popular fantasy MMORPG, Scarlet Legacy. Travel up the slopes of Mount Hua Pond, and discover an ongoing battle that never ceases, even after death! Players can begin their climb, and race to the top of the mountain and to level 75.

“We’re really excited to introduce the next chapter in the Scarlet Legacy story. It’s going to be an exciting time in the game, for new players and veterans,” said Hubert Yee, Head of Marketing at GamesCampus. “The new lore comes packed with numerous game improvements, including the ability to level up from 70 to 75!”

500 years ago, the world of Scarlet Legacy was split into the Demon Realm and the Human Realm to prevent the demons tribe from growing. Thousands of soldiers had been sent to the boundary (Mount Hua Pond) by the Realm of Heaven to protect the human world. Though two realms fought tirelessly, the Demon Realm continued to grow. As a last resort the Heavenly Realm made the difficult choice to seal away Mount Hua Pond and trapped thousands of their own soldiers.

Scarlet Legacy

In the present time, the Realm of Heaven has sent Jenny to free the trapped spirits. Yuna, her childhood friend, vows to stop her from unsealing the terrifying Mount Hua Pond. At the same time, the Demon General Zayden is planning on unsealing Mount Hua Pond to use the Demons trapped inside to invade the Human Realm!

An additional 32 Stances have been added to the game, including new Advanced Stances. Over 120 quests have been added, many involving Mount Hua Pond. High level drops include four new Purple level 75 sets and four new Golden sets. 90 crafting recipes are ready to be discovered, resulting in over 100 new items.

Practice new abilities in the Mount Hua Pond Forbidden Tower, the Sky Tower Hellfire Pass, or dive into new dungeons including Burning Lands, Thunder Tower, Sky Tower: Arcane Sanctum and Sky Tower: Altar of Yin-Yang. As always, players can look forward to an updated pet system, and the continuation of the Princess System, with new dialogue from level 71 to 75.

Meta’s Verse: CoH Issue 24

Meta’s Verse: CoH Issue 24

By Meticulous Meta, OnRPG Paragon Reporter

I had been prepared to talk about the upcoming Shark week events. The fact that double XP is coming this weekend. When out of nowhere, big news! The overview page for Issue 24 goes live. We’ve been hearing all sorts of news for weeks now. The upcoming changes to Blasters and Power Pools, new powersets and costumes. I knew that wasn’t everything. I knew there would be more. But how much more, I had no idea. And now my mind is blown. What we’ve heard so far…I wouldn’t even say it was one fourth of what is coming. Some of the changes are small, some of them are big. Everything put together gives us an awesome issue that has left everyone wishing they had a time machine. And since I mentioned time I’ll say it now. No, there isn’t a date yet, are we surprised? And no, it isn’t in beta yet but it sounds like it will be coming soon.

I’m not going to talk about the things I’ve already covered. If you want to know more about what you may have missed check out these articles.

Blaster Changes: http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/City-of-Heroes/review/Metas-Verse-Issue-24-Blaster-Changes

Power Pool Changes Part 1: http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/City-of-Heroes/review/Metas-Verse-Power-Pool-Changes

Power Pool Changes Part 2: http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/City-of-Heroes/review/Metas-Verse-Power-Pool-Changes-Part-2

Martial Combat & Martial Assault: http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/City-of-Heroes/review/Metas-Verse-Martial-Madness

So what am I going to talk about? Well how do some IO changes, new Lore abilities, an Incarnate Arc and some zone changes sound? That’s not even going into what the story is going to be about. Which of course we won’t really fully know until we’ve played the content. So let’s jump right in!

IO Changes

I’m funny about enhancements. Unless I need to put in some endurance enhancements I typically will go without all the way to 50. I know, abnormal. But I enjoy it. And it gives me a project for the 40s. And since I have a tank right now that I’m going to be starting a build for quite soon I was very pleased to hear that some of the set bonuses would be changing. Some of the less useful bonuses are being replaced. So say goodbye to debt protection and some of the mez/mental control resistances. Say hello to more powerful resistances for a broader range of damage types. Hopefully more details will come out before Issue 24, best case scenario Mids gets them so we can start playing with them. But that isn’t the only IO news. Oh no. We’re also getting new IO sets. There are four in total and each very different.

Annihilation, Targeted AoE

Unbreakable Guard, Damage Resistance

Reactive Defenses, Defense

Preventive Medicine, Healing

They’re said to offer different and very specific set bonuses like decreasing resistances, increasing hit points, improving your own resistances and even granting absorption shields.

Lore Abilities

It seems like these days whenever there is new content they throw in a few new Lore Incarnate abilities. I’m not complaining. Variety is the spice of life and we certainly have lots of it! Starting in Issue 24 we can add Banished Pantheon, Knives of Vengeance, Talons of Vengeance, and the Tsoo to the impressive list we’re collecting.

New Incarnate Arc

Here there be spoilers. So if you aren’t all caught up skip to the last paragraph in the article. You don’t want to read what is coming next. (I know you really do though.) Only one small corner of Praetoria remains standing after the destruction that came with the end of the war. This small island of civilization is at risk of crumbling away under the pressure of the constant attacks from the Devouring Earth. It will take Incarnates to fight these powerful forces. This new arc can be grabbed from Vanguard scientist Number Six in the Rikti War Zone.

Three zones will be getting new events and with them new missions.

Kings Row in Crisis

With Galaxy City in ruins, survivors have poured into neighboring zones. Back Alley Brawler has called for heroes to protect these poor souls from the gangs which call Kings Row home. Not only are gangs a problem but Paladin is taking advantage of all the chaos and trying to destroy Kings Row. He and his minions now rampage through the High Park district trying to claim it as their own. The Shining Stars are making a stand, but they can’t do it alone. The mission is intended for levels 7-20 while the Paladin zone event is much like any other zone event and scales.

Brickstown’s New Alliances

With the Praetorian war over and their world lost, those that remain from the Praetorian Army work with Vanguard in Brickstown forging a new alliance between these once bitter enemies to protect from threats from Praetoria and Primal Earth. The contact for these missions is Provost Marchand in Brickstown. But that isn’t all that is happening in Brickstown. Prisoners are escaping from the Zig in the new Prison Break zone event. This is an event that people have been hoping for since launch. And it may just become my second favorite. (You can’t beat Sally)

St. Martial’s Secrets

Arachnos has set up a portal to Praetoria with the intention of looting the devastated world. But villains find a way in first. What villains find in Praetoria will surprise them and possibly even help their schemes back home. In addition a new zone event called Family Raid is coming. Longbow discovers there are weapons hidden throughout the Family’s casinos in St. Martial. Before they can raid though word hits the streets. Villains have the chance to stop the attack and take the weapons for themselves. The missions are level 30-50.

And that is Issue 24 in a nutshell. There is only one thing left to do really and that’s to tell you the name. Issue 24 is called Resurgence. Don’t forget that Double XP Weekend is coming up in just a couple of days and all of next week is Captain Mako Week. The full calendar of events can be seen on the official forums here.
