Ace of Spades Launches onto Steam
Ace of Spades Launches onto Steam
Jagex, Europe’s largest independent games studio, today launched their much anticipated shooter Ace of Spades.
Excitement has been building at a frantic pace since Jagex announced their involvement in the game last month, with more than 500,000 people pre-registering on the game’s website in the 4 weeks leading up to today’s release.
Ace of Spades seamlessly combines both combat and construction in real-time, players are able to utilize fortifications, coordinated assaults, stealth, strategy and tactics in their attempt to achieve one of a variety of set objectives or can design their own bespoke games and objectives to obliterate the enemy from the map.
The game is available to download now and will cost just $9.99/£6.99/€7.99.
Ace of Spades will launch with four unique classes, each with their own distinct weapon and utility set:
Commando: This one man army carries things that go boom! With all brawn and some brains, the Commando is a heavy weapons specialist that will rain destruction down on anyone foolish enough to get in his way.
Marksman: An expert in covert operations, once the Marksman gets you in his sights you better hope he doesn’t pull that trigger, he has razor sharp accuracy and distance is no object.
Rocketeer: Catch him if you can! With his jet pack the Rocketeer will be getting into all the best tactical locations, ready to ambush you from on high! Once he’s taken out his target he’ll fly off and wait for the next unsuspecting victim.
Miner: The Miner is the tunnelling king and an expert at crossing enemy lines undetected! If you don’t post a look out he might just collapse your defences without ever having presented a target for you to fire at.
The game will launch with a selection of game modes which can be played on a variety of maps including:
Demolition – Destroy the enemy’s base before they destroy yours.
VIP – Protect the VIP.
Occupation – Defend your base from the opposition, then switch roles and try and plant a bomb in the opposition’s base.
Multi-Hill – Both teams fight to control changing hill points.
Team Deathmatch – Kill more than the other team. Nice and simple.
Zombie Mode – Survive the Zombie attack. Get killed by one, you become one.
David Solari, Chief Marketing Officer for Jagex said: “It has been a long time since I have been this excited about a game launch and we really cannot wait to welcome players into the battle. It’s been wonderful seeing the community grow and get behind Ace of Spades and we were blown over by having 500,000 registrations for the game in such a short space of time. With Ace of Spades we have something which is unique, challenging and fun so let battle commence!”
Ace of Spades is the latest title from the multi-awarding UK studio behind the leading free-to-play browser MMO RuneScape.com, the recently announced Facebook racer Carnage Racing, and the eagerly anticipated Transformers Universe MMO.

WoW Wednesday: The Brawler’s Guild – Another Look
WoW Wednesday: The Brawler’s Guild – Another Look
By Meredith Watson, OnRPG Warcraft Reporter
If you play WoW you’ve undoubtedly heard of the Brawler’s Guild. You know that it is a PvE arena event and you probably also know that it is invite only. There is also a chance you have heard you can get an overpriced ticket on the black market. So what is all the fuss? Is it even worth it?
When the Brawler’s Guild was introduced the price of a ticket on the black market was upwards of 40,000 gold and with limited availability. This put most people off. Nobody but a select few want to spend their hard earned gold on fighting PvE bosses for very little reward. On most realms the price of the invites has dropped dramatically. Some invites are as low as 12 to 20,000 gold now compared with upwards of 80k on some realms only a week ago, which might mean people aren’t truly interested or are finding other ways to get an invite. However, there are not many people at any given time taking part in the Brawler’s Guild even with cross realm zones, which could indicate a real lack of interest.

It would seem the main reason people aren’t interested in the Brawler’s Guild is lack of reward. WoW players are so used to instant gratification that the thought of doing anything without immediately being rewarded is abhorrent. The rewards are almost non-existent. At this time, from the quartermaster, there is a pet called Clock’em (rank 4 needed to purchase) and a bind on account fist weapon which requires rank 7. When you win a match you gain some rep and a Brawler’s Purse, which contains junk quality items which can be sold for some gold (under 50).
However, if you are an achievement junkie there are some to be had by participating in the Brawler’s Guild.
To get the I Am Your Number One Fan achievement all you need to do is /cheer a player after they’ve won a match. Sometimes one of the NPC spectators will turn hostile. Hit them in the head with Expired Blackout Brew and get the achievement Bottle Service. If you get ten stacks of stink on you and can win a match you will get the Haters Gonna Hate achievement. Aside from these three there is a series of five achievements as well: Now You’re Just Showing Off, Rabble Rabble Rabble, The First Rule of Brawlers Guild, The Second Rule of Brawler’s Guild and You Are Not Your $#*@! Legplates.

Having the right gear isn’t meant to be an issue for Brawler’s Guild. As a fresh 90 you should be able to complete the lower ranks. As your gear improves through normal game play such as rep gear, heroics and raids, you should be able to advance through the higher ranks. Some say rank 8 is nothing but a gear check is in place and requires an ilevel of about 485.
Anyone can watch the Brawler’s Guild matches. It is a spectator sport after all. It is nice to see that since PTR Blizz has accommodated the spectator by making things to stand on for the best view. There is one very interesting aspect of the Brawler’s Guild that brings to mind earlier incarnations of the game. That aspect is the incredible sense of community.
Some players have expressed concern about being judged or ridiculed while engaging in their matches and that is the reason they don’t want to participate and rightly so. The WoW PvP community is notoriously full of foul mouthed reprobates but this is PvE and surprisingly the community surrounding Brawler’s Guild is helpful and encouraging.
Players are forming raids for shared buffs, cheering and congratulating when a match is won or commiserating on losses. There is absolutely no trash talking compared to the always present haters with duels or even raids. It is this sense of community that Blizzard wants but sadly happens very rarely. When it does happen though it makes for a great experience.

The Brawler’s Guild is failing to thrive mainly due to lack of interest rather than anything else. The price of the tickets are coming down so cost isn’t really the issue. The real problem seems that there is no point to the Brawler’s Guild. There isn’t a substantial reason to participate. A few achievements, a pet and a fist weapon aren’t worth fighting for.

Kartuga Reveals the Engineer
Kartuga Reveals the Engineer
Today InnoGames introduced the Engineer – second of three pirate classes to be announced in the upcoming Action-MMOG Kartuga. The resourceful ship can quickly turn the tides of battle, utilizing its impressive arsenal. The Engineer has a multitude of tools at hand – Repair Crates, helpful Drones and Buoys – to threaten foes and support teammates. A video has also just been released detailing the benefits of the Engineer.
Her variety of buffs and healing skills make the Engineer the perfect supporting class for each team – but she’s also tricky in her use of tools and can definitely hold her own against foes. Like the other classes, the Engineer has a skill tree branching out in three directions, which can be freely combined while leveling up. With the Engineer, those builds are called Buoy Master, Atlanticus and Tinker. The Buoy Master specializes in the use of buoys to control the flow of the battlefield, supporting teammates and attacking at the same time. The Tinker is an expert at debuffing enemy skills, while the Atlanticus build is ideal to repair allies and control enemy crowds.
Kartuga is an Action-MMO with RPG-elements. The 3D pirate game invites players to choose from three ship classes, and developing their unique play style by leveling up and combining various skills and equipment. Core of the game, developed by Ticking Bomb Games, is cooperative PvP. Players challenge each other in teams of four in intense, fast-paced matches. Aside from the Engineer, Kartuga offers a Destroyer and a Protector Class. Closed beta is planned for early 2013. On www.kartuga.com, players can already pre-register.
