NCSOFT Announces Valiance, the Next Content Expansion for Lineage II
NCSOFT®, the world’s premier publisher and developer of massively multiplayer online games (MMOs), today announced Valiance, the next content expansion for the Lineage II, planned for release later this year . Along with a storyline that wreaks havoc across the lands, the update is packed with content targeting the best of the best, allowing players to hone their skills and abilities to their liking while facing the return of the popular hunting ground, Hellbound.
Players have been treated to a sense of peace since Shilen, the Goddess of Destruction, sent Lindvior to destroy Aden some time ago. While the citizens and heroes of Aden welcomed the respite, come the release of Valiance, they will find it a brief one, as old threats resurface and battles long thought won begin anew. Players deep into the game will find themselves faced with new challenges and experiences that will push their skills and dedication to the limit.
A few highlights coming with Valiance include:
- Updated Zone – Hellbound returns with upgraded areas and new hunting parties
- Skill System – Along with more than 25 new skills added to the game, players will find that a large number of skills have been improved and/or modified. Along with that, the entire Skill System has undergone a major overhaul
- Abilities – New to Lineage II, an abilities system allows players customize their skills, making them more powerful and effective
- Returning Raid Bosses – Some popular bosses from Lineage II’s past will return to the world of Aden
Currently celebrating its 10th anniversary in Korea, Lineage II remains one of the longest-running MMOs in history and a flagship title for NCSOFT. Now in the middle of its 9th year of operation in North America, the story of Aden and its champions continues towards the inevitable final battle.

Well you’ll need a new excuse not to play shortly as a new devblog showcases that the team is digging deep in the lore, all the way back to Voyager Season 3 Episode 23, where players will be forced to deal with a highly technologically advanced race known as the Voth known to pack powerful defensive capabilities, shields, cloaking technology, and thanks to a little artistic liberty, even dinosaurs.
Full details on the tricky and intelligent upcoming foes can be found on the official dev blog.
Prime World Addresses Concerns, Announces Noble’s Pact
Nival’s English version of Prime World launched to Steam this month, bringing with it both a beneficial boon of new blood as well as a string of technical issues mostly revolving around match-making for a game that has far more novices now than actual veterans. In rapid and unexpectedly open terms though, they have begun to address their community openly in preparation for an official reporting system along with changes brought on by community feedback. This feedback also involved voting in an official guideline for players that has been posted this week in its final form, though revisions are expected every six months as the community evolves and grows.
Of the most interesting changes to come, Vigor is being looked at due to the high cost of restoring it for advanced level heroes. Gender differences between accounts are also being removed, putting both genders (as well as those who lied just for the in-game benefits associated with certain character acquisition and in-game talents) on equal playing grounds. Queue times seem to be improving across the board from the influx of players, though this is mostly seen in the lower rankings as the influx of Steam players have yet to catch up to the long standing beta players.
Despite some complaints and confusion, the mini-game fifth gold stream in 5v5 looks to be staying for the long haul. As one of the initial beta testers, this is a relief as its one of the features that truly sets early gameplay apart in Prime World compared to other MOBAs. EU servers are also launching to help reduce the ping across the board.
It’s been some time since we’ve given the game a good look but with so many promising changes arriving, we feel it’s time to give Prime World another look. Our own Proxzor is in-game scouting it out now, so keep an eye out for our upcoming Steam launch review.
NYCC 2013: Day 4 – Time to Play Dress Up
By Michael Sagoe (mikedot)
So the final day of NYCC arrived, and all the fun and joy of the event was already winding down by the time we had arrived this morning. There were still plenty of cosplayers around, showing off their awesome and not –so-awesome costumes.
The ones that really caught my attention were definitely these:
…Yikes.
As I browsed the halls looking for more interesting cosplay, I found out that Ankama, the developers behind Dofus and Wakfu, also had a showing at NYCC this year, but not to showcase a new video game title (which is a shame, since I would really like to hear some new details on their previously revealed title called “Slage” which is a full 3D diablo-style dungeon crawler.) Instead, they were here to showcase their recent Kickstarter funded board game called: “Krosmaster: Arena”.
Krosmaster: Arena is a figured-based board game based on both the Dofus and Wakfu universes. Players will get to use colorful and detailed figurines on a grid-based map, along with all sorts of tokens and battle cards in order to battle against up to six opponents. To win, players must deplete their opponents’ “Gallons of Glory” (or GG for short) tokens through combat or by economical means. I decided to play a quick match of Krosmater and I must say that the game’s mechanics were actually very clever. It felt much like a mix between the tactical gameplay in both Dofus and Wakfu while throwing in some MOBA-style combat for good measure.
They also had a very popular cosplayer named Toni Darling, who was dressed up in a signature Tofu bird outfit to help promote the game.
After that, I went back on the hunt for some more unique cosplayers.
While on my search, my attention was then drawn towards the Ubisoft booth that I’ve been passing up quite frequently. Over at the booth, they had a big, black room set up to showcase their upcoming open-world action-adventure title: Watch Dogs. At the entrance of the room, there was a sign that stated that no video cameras and no flash photography was allowed in the booth. Apparently they didn’t want any leaked footage of the presentation inside to show up on YouTube, but after I entered the booth and sat through the presentation, I felt that all of the extra security measures weren’t really necessary. The demonstration in the booth was apparently just a recorded gameplay demonstration that was already shown back during PAX EAST 2013. It was a fairly short demo and it really didn’t showcase anything about the game that the public didn’t already know about.
I’m not sure if I’m the only one that feels this way, but every time I see new footage for Watch Dogs, the game seems to get less and less impressive. Then again, my opinion probably isn’t too invalid, considering that Ubisoft has recently announced that the game will have its release date pushed back to spring of 2014.
So the last thing I checked out before leaving the convention center was the Twitch.TV booth where they were showcasing live matches for another upcoming Double Helix title: Killer Instinct (2013). The hosts for the booth were picking spectators from the crowd to come up and try the game out, as well as have them compete to see who can win one of their daily prizes, including widescreen TVs and gaming cases. I wanted to be picked to play SO badly, not because I wanted to win a prize, but because I really wanted to give the new Killer Instinct game a try. Sadly, I never got selected to participate.
Still, just being able to watch matches for the game in full 60 frames-per-second was excellent. I would have to say that my reaction to the game is the exact opposite of my reaction to Watch Dogs, as the game seems to look better and better every time I come across it. I really hope to see the final outcome for Killer Instinct, and perhaps Double Helix will be able to shake off the stigma they’ve obtained for releasing really bad licensed games over the years.
As I bring my NYCC 2013 entry to a close, one thing that I really feel the need to point out is that this year’s New York Comic-con wasn’t as spectacular as last year or the year before it, mainly because this was perhaps the first Comic-con in a long time that was (primarily) focused on comics and animation rather than comics, animation and entertainment, which makes plenty of sense, but would probably come off as a disappointment to those that attend these conventions for the spectacle of it all. There wasn’t many A or even B-list celebrates this year. Many of the entertainment booths were showcasing games or videos that have already been released to the public, and many of the panels were just so unappealing and uninteresting compared to last year.
But then again, I don’t think any panel in Comic-con history will ever be able to reach the level of craziness that was achieved by R. Kelly’s “Trapped in a Closet: Sing-along event!”, where they gave out a bunch of random goodies to help make the sing-along more “interactive”, including a toy gun, a plastic spatula and a condom (WHICH I STILL HAVE.)
See? Still have it!
But overall, this year’s NYCC was a great experience. I would love to attend it again next year, but if I do, I’m planning to bring a much bigger press crew along for the ride.
See you later, New York City…
