WoW Wednesday – Darkspear Rebellion Patch 5.3 Preview
By Meredith Watson, Azeroth Reporter
World of Warcraft‘s Patch 5.3 is chock full of goodness. Aside from the usual pet battle changes, minor class tweaks and other mundane things there are some really great things in this patch. One of the major changes for those of us that love levelling is the experience reduction by 33% between levels 85-90. But the most important thing about 5.3 is the Darkspear rebellion. Vol’jin has had enough and Garrosh‘s days are numbered.

Levelling through the old world, Outland, Northrend and Cataclysm zones is incredibly easy these days, especially if wearing BoAs . Though why they are called bind on account is anyone’s guess as they can’t be sent to different servers. Shouldn’t they be called Bind on Account but Only on This Server? A bit longwinded but you get my point. I digress. So after breezing through the aforementioned zones you find yourself at level 85 in Pandaria where it is almost painful to level. Of course they do this for a reason but the change is very noticeable and really can take the wind of out one’s sails. That is all to change with 5.3. Now levelling in Pandaria will be just as quick as levelling through older content. This is a sure sign that we are approaching the end of this expansion. It seems like only yesterday I was writing about the beta.
At the beginning of the year we were asked to do our MMO predictions. In my prediction for WoW I had mentioned that Garrosh would likely get turned into the Sha of something or other. It looks like I may be right. Patch 5.3 is the beginning of the end.

To continue the storyline that began in Cataclysm you will need to answer the summons from Lorewalker Cho. He will ask you to complete the new scenario Blood in the Snow. Blood in the Snow takes place outside of Ironforge and centres on stopping the Zandalari from forming an allegiance with the Frostmane trolls. The task is to help Moira Bronzebeard and King Wrynn save Ironforge from a troll attack. There is much distrust amongst the dwarven clans and Moira wants to prove the Dark Iron clan under her leadership are trustworthy. The scenario is pretty straight forward and not too difficult. It involves saving some dwarves and killing some trolls.

After Blood in the Snow, Lorewalker Cho will want you to complete The Dark Heart of Pandaria. This scenario is a little tougher especially with the incoordination of random grouping (and a Russian DK who was AFK more than not). In this scenario you are a goblin whether you want to be or not. The scenario focuses on a goblin excavation team that is trying to find an ancient artefact for Garrosh. After a particularly nasty fight with the Echo of Y’Shaarj, the Kor’kron shows up to take the artefact from the goblins. This is where it gets interesting and proves I may have been right all those months ago. Y’shaarj was an old god. After the Titans killed him, Y’Shaarj cursed Pandaria with shadows of its former self-aka shas. That artefact the goblins dug up for Garrosh? It is none other than the remnants of an old god. It would seem the final boss of this expansion will be a corrupted Garrosh but there are those that would disagree. We shall see.

Once Dark Heart of Pandaria is complete it is off to see Lorewalker Cho who will send you Durotar. As Alliance you take the goblin transporter at the Shrine of Seven Stars. Once you arrive in Ratchet you need to find Amber and Sully who are camped out near Orgrimmar which has a large orcish army out front. Amber will ask you to steal some plans, do some spying and rescue a troll woman. After doing this, you will be off to Razor Hill to try to get an introduction to Vol’jin through the troll woman you’ve just rescued. Vol’jin will have a quest for you to acquire 15 each of meat, oil, logs and stone. As Alliance this is where it stops but opens up the weekly and quartermaster. Horde will continue on with the Battle of Sen’jin Village and Battle of Razor Hill where Baine Bloodhoof shows up to talk about joining the rebellion.

Whether Garrosh turns into a powerful sha or gets his ass handed to him by Vol’jin (with our help of course), the next few months promise to be exciting times for World of Warcraft. However, patch 5.3 does pose more questions than it answers. Judging by what I have seen and done on the PTR, Blizzard is doing a great job unfolding this story and I can’t wait for it to go live. How do you think Mists of Pandaria will end? Will Garrosh be the final boss? Who will lead the horde?

ANNO Online CB Launch Trailer
Ubisoft reveals their strategy browser title set to push the genre to the next level of graphical achievement and complexity, ANNO Online.
The Great Equalizer: Kings and Legends’ Tournaments
Kings and Legends, the unique card-based, free2play browser title, today launches the new daily Tournament system, a different way to compete for exclusive rewards. Based solely on a player’s skill and not the cards they have purchased, Tournaments will provide a unique twist on the card-based battle system Kings and Legends boasts. For those who haven’t tried all of the current Ascension update content, including the Ascension Tower PVE tournament, where players must face action-packed battles in their quest to rise to the top, dash over to the game now,
“We’re calling the Tournament system the great equalizer, because winners will be crowned by skill and adaptability, and not their card collection,” said Ronja Niklasson, Game Director for Kings and Legends. “It’s a totally different way of approaching tournament content, proving once again Kings and Legends is really blazing a unique path in the free2play browser game world!”
Tournaments run twice per day, with an additional tournament each Saturday. Two different tournament formats will be available: Equalizer and Sealed. The tournament categories will have multiple fight formats: 1v1, 2v2, Honor, and Gold. Each format and tournament type will provide players with rewards including Silver, Gold and Medals of Honor, which are used to purchase exclusive cards.
The Equalizer tournament format is the true balancer of the Kings and Legends battlefield. Giving each player 50 vitality and ignoring equipment bonuses, players build decks from a pool of legendary cards. Then, with players divided into tournament groups of 16, they play a series of 4 matches with increasing rewards depending on their total number of wins. As players cannot purchase special cards, there is no single advantage, and players can test out potential legendary cards in this fashion before purchasing them on the Auction House for their normal decks.
In the Sealed tournament, players will open up to 15 special Tournament Booster packs. These boosters contain cards ranging randomly from good, green quality cards to amazing legendary cards. Once players have built a deck, they are divided into tournament groups of 16 with increasing rewards for those players who manage the most wins against their opponents.
With ever increasing numbers of new players trying the game in the last week since the huge Ascension update the new tournament system should provide a level playing field for those starting out but also provide a new and formidable challenge for Kings and Legends more established players.
Guild Wars 2: Rytlock’s Critter Rampage
By Shannon Doyle (Leliah), OnRPG MMO Addict

April has been the month that just keeps giving this year for Guild Wars 2 fans. First we were treated to the in-game mini game that is the Super Adventure Box and now we’ve been given an awesome 2D sidescroller called Rytlock’s Critter Rampage. Though we didn’t know it at the time, we got the first hint of it earlier this month in the commercial for the Super Adventure Box. You can see the kid playing it and see the box on the table at the :19 mark just before Rytlock knocks all the kitten stuff off to make space for the SAB.
So, after giving the game a go three…or…twenty times I finally stopped, just moments before I was about to launch my keyboard through my monitor. This thing is hard! And I was on easy mode. It brought me back to my childhood playing frustrated as I repeat a level for the eighth time that hour. And you know what? It was awesome. It has been given the label of “Nintendo Hard,” something I fully back. And you know, that makes me want to go back and try it again.
Of course, as with everything that comes out there are bound to be complaints. And this has been no exception. I suspect these people are either too young to appreciate the nostalgia or they’re the sort to complain about everything, just because they can. There have been very few complaints on the forums about this though, so that was quite refreshing. Though I will admit there is one small complaint I have. Rytlock Brimstone is the owner of the kick ass sword Sohothin. It would have been awesome to see in it the game. Maybe when they make the sequel.

It’s a pretty basic game. Run, Jump, Kick. Like all games from that era it has secret treasures, and four different endings depending on how you perform. In easy mode there is only one ending. The end. But if you’re brave enough to try Rytlock mode suddenly you have three alternate endings. If you find all 10 secret treasures you get a congratulation from Rytlock himself wearing his cool orange shades. Get less and you’ll make Rytlock cry. You wouldn’t want to make him cry would you? And finally, if you’re insane enough to do it, play through the whole thing without saving. I’ll leave that little gem to the people who actually do it. Though I’m sure it wouldn’t take much searching to find out what you get at the end online, somewhere.

I strongly suggest everyone gives this baby a try. You may hate it, you may swear at your computer for an hour as you struggle through it. But you will love it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of Guild Wars 2 or not. Try it. You might regret it. But you’ll thank me for it later.
OnRPG Shotgun News 4/23: Grimlands and London Comic Con
By Shannon Doyle (Leliah), OnRPG News Junkie
Grimlands Cancels Kickstarter Campaign

Just 2 weeks into the Grimlands Kickstarter campaign it has been cancelled. It had a total of 361 backers pledging $35,050 out of the $650,000 goal. Things looked pretty grim for them, but wait! They’ve been contacted by several investors who are interested in seeing the game finished. The DRAGO Entertainment team promises backers to keep everyone updated on how things develop from here.
London Comic Con Launches eSports Tournament
London Comic Con may be just more than a month away but they’re still surprising people with announcements like this one. They will be introducing an eSports zone which will start off with what else besides a League of Legends Tournament. Online competitions will be held to narrow it down to just four teams who will play in front of the entire convention. But don’t worry if London is a bit too far away for you, they’ll be broadcasting on MCM eSports’ Twitch channel.
