RuneScape Introduces New Master-Level Quest: The Mighty Fall

Runescape Mighty Fall

The Mighty Fall is the stunning conclusion to the long-running Cave Goblin quest series in RuneScape. Set in the aftermath of the death of the war god Bandos, which occurred during RuneScape’s 2nd event in January 2014, players will be asked to take part in a brutal tournament to determine the leadership of the god’s war band. Only the strong will survive and the fate of goblins, orks and trolls will rest in the hands of the victor.

Rewards for completing the quest include new high level weaponry, a new title and a big chunk of combat related XP!

The Mighty Fall launches this week, but it is not for the faint of heart. The requirements to complete his quest include high levels in skills such as strength and constitution, as well as success in a number of adventures which have previously featured within the Cave Goblin series.

Rail Nation Stakes East v. West in Battle of the Tracks Across America

Rail Nation

Harkening back to America’s roots, the good ol’ US of A is once again a Rail Nation in the newest browser game released today by Travian Games and Bright Future. Delivering goods on time is only part of the challenge, as Rail Nation requires computer conductors to think strategically, engineer alliances, and gain control of a railway system that has been our country’s backbone for hundreds of years. Players can now begin conquering America for free at play.rail-nation.com, enjoying the latest update for a franchise that has already attracted more than a million players in nearly 20 different languages.

In Rail Nation’s US release, a great East-West duel takes center stage as the east’s Atlantic Railway and west’s Pacific Railroad factions are fighting for supremacy across the country. At each round’s start, cities on the map are distributed evenly between factions and are taken over through goods deliveries during the game. The more cities change hands and the higher the levels of the cities controlled by a faction, the more points are awarded until a winning faction emerges.

In Rail Nation’s US release, players also will discover:
·         Familiar Sites of America! Featuring 50 cities and numerous iconic sights, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon and more;
·         Trains, trains and more trains. From steam to diesel to electrical, dozens of 3D engine models rendered to the highest level of realism with nearly 50 different kinds of wagons;
·         Customized locomotives. More than 30 alternate paint jobs allow for individuality in a player’s vehicle fleet;
·         Real-time strategy. Calculating routes and supply and demand for goods happens in real time, so long term planning meets on the fly decision making;

Interested players can climb on-board and register at play.rail-nation.com.

Wargaming Reveals World of Warplanes Update 1.4 and E3 Trailer

WoWP Winter War

Wargaming today launched Update 1.4 and E3 trailer for its free-to-play action MMO World of Warplanes in Russia and Europe with players from North America getting the update on June 4. Players worldwide will be able to choose between the HD and SD versions of the game client and experience the new features, including the first addition of premium Tier VI fighters, revamped matchmaking system, two new maps, as well as graphics and interface improvements.

The World of Warplanes game client is now divided into HD version for high-performance computers to play using the max graphics settings and SD version for virtual pilots who do not use the highest graphics quality settings or want to save space on their hard disk.

Update 1.4 introduced a total of five new premium Tier VI fighters, each representing the five nations in the game: the Soviet Bell P-39Q-15 Airacobra fighter, German Supermarine Spitfire V DB 605, British North American Mustang Mk.I, Japanese Kawasaki Ki-88, and the American Grumman XP-50 heavy fighter.

Given the many attributes of matchmaking, World of Warplanes’ developers are constantly tweaking the algorithms of the system to make battles more engaging. The new version of the matchmaking system, Matchmaker 2.0, now ensures that the number of flight squads is equal among both teams and that the types and tiers of all planes on opposing sides are well-balanced. Additionally, the new system gives players a higher chance of being matched up with similarly tiered planes.

Update 1.4 will also introduce two new maps: “Winter War” and “Hidden Airbase”. Lit up by the Northern Lights, the first one will task players with fighting enemies in a dark and hazardous environment and is available for aircraft of tiers I to V. The “Hidden Airbase” features a secret military facility, located in the polar region and surrounded by glacier pathways. This one is available for aircraft of tiers V to X.

EVE Online’s Kronos Release Features Rise of Pirate Factions

EVE Online Kronos Release

CCP Games, the world’s leading independent massively multiplayer game developer, today launched Kronos, the first release in a new development cadence for EVE Online, the award-winning sci-fi MMO that has grown each of its eleven years.

Kronos focuses on the continued decline of the four major empires and celebrates the concurrent rise of pirate factions and player influence across the constellations. It also heralds a change in EVE’s development structure, replacing two major expansions per year with up to ten releases. The change allows for more ambitious features, quicker delivery of content and functionality, and provides more frequent updates for players to look forward to.

In Kronos, EVE’s legendary space combat will forever change thanks to the new and deadly Mordu’s Legion ships, a stealthy mining frigate, and 38 other rebalanced ships and drones. Gorgeous visual changes include reimagined solar flares, warp effects and new ship skins. An entirely customizable soundscape allows players to tailor their own audio experience.

Low-security space sites and dozens of other changes round out Kronos and set the stage for the massive industry features coming in July’s Crius release.

Skara – The Blade Remains in Final Push to Full Release

After only 10 months working with Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, Skara – The Blade Remains, a free-to-play multiplayer online game for PC, is preparing to release on Steam Early Access in July.

Skara Screen

Skara – The Blade Remains will combine elements from multiple genres, including:

  • RPGs – skill trees, experience and rich background
  • Fighting – timing and accuracy, combos and fatalities
  • MOBAs – arenas, coordination among the players and frenetic action

Because it incorporates so many features from various genres, Skara – The Blade Remains does not fit in any one single category, so the developer has labelled the title a Multiplayer Online Versus title, or a MOV.

Skara – The Blade Remains can support as small as one versus one duels and up to 16 player battles, in which gamers compete for dominance in a fantasy filled world racked by cosmic disaster.

Players choose any of five classes and can customize their character’s appearance, equipment and fighting style.  Gamers also decide with whom they will team and create their own factions inside every class.  The teams then fight as one with the goal of dominating arenas, expanding their territories and gaining renown in the world of Skara. The best players will be immortalized as heroes and kings, writing history with their successes and failures.

The question for players is… how long can they stay alive in Skara – The Blade Remains?

Skara – The Blade Remains is looking like a hot property.  It took the developer only eight days last January to convince the Steam community to Greenlight the game. In February, Skara – The Blade Remains became one of only two games chosen for Microsoft Ventures’ first London Accelerator program.

The developers of Skara – The Blade Remains do not have modest ambitions. Equipped with an Xbox-One developer kit, the team aims to bring the title to Next-Gen consoles.  But to add all the bells and whistles they’d like to offer, the studio is going after fan backing.

“We already have a game to offer,” says Pablo Rodriguez, CEO and creative director, Skara, “But our vision for Skara – The Blade Remains is so much bigger. That’s why we are doing a Kickstarter that will offer our backers great rewards if they join us for the wild ride that is game development.”

The Kickstarter campaign will last one month, its goal to raise $35,000 USD, to fund the game’s full release later in 2014.

“We could turn to a VC or AAA publisher to get our game released,” says Cesar Ortega, CFO, Skara. “But then we would be forced to have a constant focus on the bottom line instead of what we wanted to do with it. We would much rather turn to the gaming community directly. They know what they want and we hope they will want us.”

Kickstarter backers will be guaranteed beta access immediately at the end of the campaign, as well as numerous other rewards, if the program is successful.
