SMITE Nu Wa Kit Update Revealed

SmitenuwaBack

Moments ago on Twitch.TV, HiRez Studios revealed the updated kit of Chinese Goddess, Nu Wa. While fans of this third person MOBA, SMITE, were unsure what to expect, it turns out the majority of her skills remain intact to a certain extent. A new voice has been included as well. Changes are as follows:

SMITENewWaPassive

Passive: After 5 auto attacks, Nu Wa gains a buff that will root the next target hit by her auto attack. This replaces her former crystal buff system that led to her snake transformation.

SMITENewWaFog

Mysterious Fog: Nu Wa summons a fog that moves forward, stealthing allies encompassed by it and damaging enemies that enter it. This is essentially the same skill as her former 1 except that it no longer attempts to remain centered on Nu Wa. Also all allies within the fog receive a movement speed buff now instead of just Nu Wa.

Clay Soldiers: Nu Wa summons 1 to 3 clay soldiers that rush forward, creating a debuff area where they initiate combat that debuffs enemy’s magic defense. The soldiers now scale based on Nu Wa’s total hp and run after targets at a much faster rate. Formerly she could summon up to five minions with this skill but the magic defense reduction is new.

SMITENewWaShiningMetalExplo

Shining Metal: Nu Wa launches a metallic mass forward in a line sixty-five meters, slowing any enemies hit. If Shining Metal hits a clay soldier, the soldier explodes and stuns surrounding enemies, dealing additional damage. Minion explosions don’t stack. Formerly her 3 was a fire crystal ground target skill shot that also stunned but was independent of use from the clay soldiers. It also added AoE fire damage to her auto attacks.

SMITENewWaFireshards

Fire Shards (ulti): Nu Wa reveals her true snake form, flying into the air to unleash a rain of fire shards on all enemies (global). This also reveals all enemies in the process. Formerly Nu Wa’s ultimate was a lightning box that caged enemies in, punishing them with damage should they walk through the wall. Her kit’s overall playstyle has significantly changed as a result.

Overall initial thoughts hold that Nu Wa is still going to be a dangerous Mage that will chase a foe once she has the upper hand. Between her passive’s root, the slow on her Shining Metal, and movement speed bonus on her Mysterious Fog, she will be able to lay some serious punishment on a foe that attempts to flee rather than fight. Her global ultimate will help secure kills for those that burn their escape too late.

That said, she has lost her passive stat bonuses in the process including her incredibly powerful auto-attack master mage Snake transformation. Overall her kit seems to promote building movement speed, attack speed, magic damage, and health which as a whole can be difficult to do and still remain a viable mage. Perhaps HiRez’s intention is to force you to choose a path of specialty? We’ll know more on official launch.

Sword of Phantasia Review: Cuteness Overload

By Ojogo, Mobile Guru

Sword of Phantasia image_10

PlayNext’s latest title, Sword of Phantasia, has taken the cutesy mobile gaming route that is reminiscent of another mobile title, Final Fantasy: Airborne Brigade. The game however clearly deviates from Airborne Brigade on some key elements, mainly the focus on equipment gathering and boss monster raiding.

But before I get a head of myself, read on to find out more about the game.

Gameplay

Sword of Phantasia follows the typical mobile MMORPG gameplay with your character going through areas that contain a fixed number of instances. The game uses the energy system to track/limit the amount of instances you can go through per run. You regain energy every five (5) minutes in real time. Similar to other titles that also use this system, the energy cost increases as you continue further into the game.

Adventuring nets you a random chance of facing monster mobs, finding chests, or stumbling into a boss monster. Each instance has a set amount of loot that you can get so that you can revisit stages after you’re done going through them.

Equipment

If there’s one thing that PlayNext seems to be selling in Sword of Phantasia, its loot, loot and more loot.

Sword of Phantasia image_9-(2)

To be fair, the game doesn’t have anything new or innovative in terms of the loot drop system, though they are far more generous with drop rates than your average title. A possible reason for this may be because the game uses equipment (armors/weapons) as your character’s overall attack/defense stat.

You can equip a certain number of armaments at a time. However you are limited by stat requirements that keep a low level character from getting lucky and becoming godly too quickly.

Sword of Phantasia image_1

The other notable element in the game’s equipment system is that you can assign an equipment to be show as your character’s clothes in-game. In fact there’s an in-game event dedicated for showing off the best attired characters.

Sword of Phantasia image_8-(3)

Sword of Phantasia also uses the upgrading/refining system in other titles. This means that each weapon has its own level that you can increase by sacrificing your excess weapons or equipment. On the other hand, refining requires you to sacrifice the same weapons in your storage to increase its stats and rarity.

Boss Monsters

Boss monsters in Sword of Phantasia are random encounters during your adventuring phase that requires you to get help (normally) from other players.

image_3-(3)

Facing boss monsters uses a different gauge from your character called Battle Points. BPs are required whenever you do an attack, a spell, or heal yourself in encounters. The game tosses you a random leveled boss monster so the levels of the boss monster you’ll be facing can go as high as level 90 or as low as level 1.

Another thing to take note of when facing boss monsters is that it you are required to defeat the monster before a set time duration expires. The amount of time given per each monster encounter is dependent on the level of the boss monster you are facing. The higher the level, the longer the escape time is given by the game.

image_5

Boss monster encounters also setup the game’s social aspect features. Since the game requires you to ask for help (and be rewarded with gold if you do), you’ll be immediately introduced to a set of people as your party mates. You can then stay in communication with your party mates whether you need further help or just want to drop a thank you for a well-timed heal.

image_7-(3)

The game also cycles through a wide variety of boss monsters, so things don’t feel repetitive for quite a while. Some monsters require different approaches as well, adding a deeper level of depth than most mobile games of its type.

Job Classes

Another good game feature Sword of Phantasia has is its job class accessibility. You can in fact switch between them on a whim. Each class must be leveled individually though, so some effort will need to be put into one before you can expect to provide decent support in group content.

image_6-(2)

Another enjoyable thing about leveling different classes is that your character can also learn skills that your character can equip. This provides your character a lot of skill options for taking down boss creatures.

The job class system in fact is reminiscent of Final Fantasy’s system to the point of being borderline identical. However, Sword of Phantasia has enough running on its own that the game would not be mistaken as another FF rip-off.

Critique

Sword of Phantasia is a nice game to spend a few hours a day playing. It doesn’t hurt that the game also looks cute and the bright colors really make the game pop out as you play. The problem however is the game’s childish approach might limit the population of people willing to give it a try.

Sword of Phantasia image_8

All in all though if you like the cutesy graphics or are willing to overlook them, the game is a really enjoyable romp. Sword of Phantasia’s streamlined to be played in the mobile platform with a user interface ideal for small screens, offering enough size and separation of buttons that you’ll seldom misclick an option or attack. While the game doesn’t bring anything new or innovative, Sword of Phantasia is fun and easy enough to get into.

I enjoyed the clothing your avatar aspect of the game. Not only does it add a bit of customization other titles lack, it’s fun seeing my character in action in his thematic mish-mash of armors and weapons.

Conclusion: Good

While this isn’t a mobile game I’d place on my “must have” list, it’s entertaining enough to spend a week or two on. Especially if you’re looking for a game that you can easily pick up to pass time this summer vacation.

Grand Chase: Land of Judgement Update Now Available

Grand Chase

KOG Games, a leading developer and publisher of popular free-to-play action MMORPGs, today announces the launch of the impressive Land of Judgment World Boss Dungeon.

From the Magical War of Kounat to the creation of the Tower of Disappearance, the fearless Knights of the Grand Chase have been called upon to act as saviors to war torn lands that most have never even dreamed of, but these wars have not only ravaged the lands of Aernas they have bled over into other realms and dimensions. With the recent opening of the Dimension’s Door the connecting realms have been thrown into absolute chaos. Recognizing that a grave mistake has been made, the ancient Gods have decided to intervene and destroy Aernas; hoping to bring harmony back to the world.

The goddess and overseer of Aernas, sent the divine monstrosity Harkion to serve as a final test of worth. This will be the last chance for the Grand Chase to champion Aernas and show the ancients that the world was worth saving.

The Land of Judgment is the first of the epic Grand Chase Boss encounters that pit players 1v1 vs. the biggest, baddest boss in Grand Chase. No friends, very limited use of consumable resources and no excuses. This encounter is special because players of all skill levels get to participate.
To enter, players select the Hero Dungeon icon on the bottom of the World Map Screen. Players have to bring their A-Game as they’re only allowed to attempt to slay Harkion 3 times a day, between the hours of 2:00AM and 11:50PM (PDT) each day.

Now for the rewards! Players can acquire Battle Points for their efforts. The more damage you do to Harkion, the more Battle Points you receive. At the end of each daily event period, the total number of Battle Points acquired is tallied up, and your tiered prize is distributed via in-game mail.
There are too many prizes to list here, but we assure you that they’re amazing.
Players even get prizes for participating! Just for playing Land of Judgment each day, players will receive a Judgment Support Reward the first attempt. The prize is a random grab bag of items not to be missed.

This challenge goes out to every Knight in the Grand Chase:
“To all who are living in Aernas, listen well… your world is in danger. Because of the cycles of endless warfare, your world is out of balance and is still affecting the safety of the realm at large. I am offering you a last chance at salvation before the Gods destroy your world.
Try and stop me with everything that you have…
