Passages – Passive

Any time Janus transitions through a portal or over a threshold he becomes aged and wizened, gaining +25% magical power scaling on his next ability cast.

Portal

Janus creates a portal in the world. If placed on a wall, the portal will create a passage through to the other side of the wall that Janus or any Ally may use. The portal may be entered from either side, but closes after 1 use. If placed on the ground, enemies and Janus will fall into the portal, being teleported into the air above it. Enemies take 80/130/180/230/280 +60% magical power as damage upon landing, and are considered banished for 1.5s during the fall. Cooldown 15s. Cost 70.

Unstable Vortex

Janus creates two unstable portals, far too small to fit into, and flings them forward dealing 90/150/210/270/330 +80% magical power as damage to enemies in their path. Enemies hit by both portals take 50% damage on the second hit. Cooldown 8s. Cost 70/75/80/85/90.

Threshold

Passive: Janus increases the movement speed of himself and allies 10/15/20/25/30% for 5s when they go through a portal or over a Threshold (max 2 stacks). Active: Janus opens a multi-dimensional rift that lasts for 3/4/5/6/7s. Enemies who pass over the rift are slowed 20/25/30/35/40% and marked with Phase for 3s. Targets in Phase take 20,40,60,80,100% additional magical scaling damage when hit by Janus’ next damaging ability. Cooldown 15s. Cost 60/65/70/75/80.

Through Space and Time

Janus blasts a slow moving ball of multi-dimensional energy across the battlefield, burning a portal into every surface it encounters within range 500. These portals last 10s, may be used by allies, and do not vanish after the first use. Enemies hit by the energy take 200/300/400/500/600 +50% magical power as damage, increasing in magical scaling the further the ball travels. Cooldown 90s. Cost 100.

NemesisAssassin

This patch also introduces the massive Warrior repositioning announced roughly a month ago by HiRez. In addition to massive adjustment in attack speed and in-hand power changes across the board for Warriors, various individual skills are being adjusted, and Nemesis is even being repositioned as an Assassin.

HiRez Studios have also been blown back into the 1980s by by Janus’ portals resulting in one very odd video and a full weekend of double favor earnings.

Quite a few other changes are included with a very hefty nerf bat slammed in Zeus’ face. Catch the full patch notes here.

Atari’s Minimum Updates with New Map, Weapons and Trailer

Minimum Fire

Atari’s fast-paced, multiplayer online battle arena and crafting game Minimum got its first update today, featuring an early-version map that the community will help design, new weapons and armor sets, and Steam friends-list matching. Along with the patch, Minimum has a new trailer showcasing the game’s minimalistic world and combat tactics.

New Features Include:

Titan Mode Map (Player’s Feedback Needed) A map that offers large open areas and longer sight lines, Disaster Zone allows for better focus on squad tactics with lots of verticality and routes for players to use when attacking enemy Titans. This early-stage map is intentionally a little rough around the edges so players share input with Atari and Human Head so they can shape the final design version of the map with the community’s feedback.

Steam Friends List Players can now directly join their friend’s matches via the Steam friends list. This feature will be further enhanced in the coming weeks by the ability to add true party matchmaking, where players can create a group from their Steam friends list and then enter the matchmaking queue as that group; then get placed into a match all together.

Weapons Players can release their inner pyro with a deadly, short-range Flame Turret that lights enemies on fire and a Napalm Grenade that leaves smoldering fire where the lethal device punctures the ground.

Armor What good are new weapons without a little protection? Minimum now has the armor sets Major Tom, a spaceman-themed armor set that allows higher jumps, and Tactical, an armor set focused on buffs for projectile weapons such as snipers and shotguns.

From the Beauty of Battle – Art and Design of Tribal Wars 2

Tribal Wars 2 Game Over

Today InnoGames released additional information on the art and graphics of its online strategy game Tribal Wars 2. The game significantly overhauls the visual look of its predecessor, Tribal Wars, yet aims at finding a balance between classical and modern visuals. The gorgeous buildings in the city overview were all hand-drawn first and took about one month each to be finished, as lead graphic artist Tobias Dunz explains in a new video on the game’s visuals.

Aside from the attention to detail on troops and buildings, creating an updated yet familiar interface on all playable devices, including smartphones and tablets, were among the key tasks for the graphic team: “We had to experiment and iterate a lot, before we found a way that was visually pleasing as well as functional”, says Dunz. “Very often we tried something and then realized, it wouldn’t work for mobile devices, and then we had to start over, to find a more appropriate solution.” Dunz, who was also in charge of creating Forge of Empires’ visual style previously, points out that Tribal Wars 2’s level of detail is unmatched by most modern browser games: “Each building we have in Tribal Wars 2 is almost 4 times as detailed as anything we have done so far. And not only the user interface, but also the visuals of the game world are optimized for mobile and high-resolution devices” the graphic artist explains. Those adjustments will be especially noticeable on Apple’s Retina devices and comparable Android tablets, adds Dunz.
