Guild Wars 2 Outlines Revenant Profession

A dev blog posted by ArenaNet’s Roy Cronacher earlier this afternoon offers a glimpse into what we can expect from Guild Wars 2‘s ninth profession set to arrive with the Heart of Thorns Expansion.

GuildWars2RevenantHammer

The Revenant is a master of manipulating the mists. Think of them as a disruptive tank with a mix of mesmer and warrior making up your pool of skill choices. They seem to still be all about getting in the face of their foe to disrupt them, or beat them down, but the style in which they do so seems more about entrapment and reactive countering than you may be used to in a melee profession.

Their theme is also quite unique, focusing on a connection to famous spirits of the mists as a source of power rather than the typical weapon swapping seen in Guild Wars 2 thus far. These spirits known as Legends impact what skills will fill the right half of your skill bar, changing the style of play you’ll need to use to be successful with each Legend you unleash. With one active and one inactive Legend at a time, you can truly keep your foes guessing by swapping between the two.

Of course I wouldn’t have compared this profession to the mesmer without including a new set of status effects they pack to change up gameplay. Resistance allows them to temporarily remove conditions on an ally to give them momentary reaction to fight back unhindered. It’s only temporary so don’t think of it as a cure. Slow will allow you to live our your fantasy fanfic of the Matrix as your foe casts and attacks you in seeming slow motion. Taunt will allow you to pull foes towards you with their skill bar locked, ideal for peeling from a hurt ally or to lure a foe into position for a trap.

The total write-up is quite extensive and worth reading in its entirety. Check it out on the official blog here.

Don’t have time? We’ll be bringing you a recap of what’s covered shortly after the stream ends.

Update: Catch shots of Bellona and an overview below!

Bellona, the Roman Goddess of War, features a unique feature as her passive evolves as she swaps weapons. Her weapons swap with the use of each of her basic 3 abilities.

Each weapon offers a unique attack chain with her shield absorbing and reflecting damage in an area around her. Her hammer is slower but packs more of a punch, and cleaves all enemies within the range of her swing. Her whip exchanges some attack power to gain a longer attack range, and seems to restore health on successful consecutive attacks.

Bellona’s ultimate, Eagle Rally, offers an area of physical protection and physical power buff for allies. The center of the circle where she flies in to plant the flag will also damage and stun any enemies caught within it.

This patch lacks balance changes with the exception of a buff to Hou Yi’s jump, allowing Hou Yi to avoid collision detection while flying through the air, as you’d imagine he visually would.

A key note of this patch is the impact of Bellona’s 3, her whip attack. This causes a disarm CC, similar to silence but preventing the target from auto attacking. Hirez Scott mentioned that this new CC may be considered for bringing up the power of weaker older gods to make them more viable.

Also if you haven’t been observant and are still wondering why this patch note is titled Battle Frost, take a closer look at Ymir in these screenshots. He’s receiving a long awaited visual overhaul. No mechanical changes will come with these changes.

Tera: Fate of Arun: Skycastle Update Preview

By Michael Sagoe (Mikedot)

The second half of En Masse’s first expansion for TERA: Fate of Arun will soon be available. This new update will feature the long awaited guild housing feature that was mentioned way back, way before TERA was even released in western territories, as this feature was supposed to be a part of a grand expansion back in K-TERA, which was known as “The Juras Ark.” Along with a guild housing system, there was also going to be a server vs. server event where players would fight over entire castles in the sky.

TERAA relic from the past…

While the expansion was inevitable cancelled, many ideas and pieces from that expansion have been changed into something more suitable for the Action MMORPG that we know today. Now players will be looking towards the skies in awe as castles appear right before their very eyes. Along with the new skycastles, this update also features a new zone and a new endgame dungeon for players to dive into. This will be the hardest dungeon that TERA players will ever face, with CM Treeshark stating that its nuances may take players weeks to figure out.

The first thing that we got to try out was the new Sky Cruiser Endeavor dungeon, which pits players up against three bosses: Putrion, Perimos and Darkan. Fighting Putrion serves as a test in patience and endurance, as the boss itself cannot be attacked very often and will use a variety of status attacks, along with commanding hordes of minions to do its bidding. Perimos, on the other hand, will test a team’s positioning skills while forcing them to push their DPS to the limits in order to prevent it from destroying several columns in the area that will kill off entire teams if they are destroyed.

TERA

If that wasn’t enough, the final boss battle against Darkan will truly test the player’s skills like never before, as all of its attacks will almost certainly take out players in one single hit. And if that wasn’t bad enough, this boss has more than one form to contend with. Never since the original (un-nerfed) Argon Queen dungeon have players seen a more challenging boss, with attack patterns that required split second timing and positioning in order to avoid. If players can take on the challenge, they’ll be earning the best PvE gear the game has to offer.

TERA

TERA

The second part of the update that we got to experience was the new guild housing that can be seen all the way in Velika. Guilds will be able to compete for these houses by participating in a month long event to see who’s the biggest and baddest guilds for both PvE and PvP players. Players can earn points simply by playing in several PvP modes like Corsair’s Stronghold or Fraywind Cannyon, or complete various dungeon runs or dungeon competitions such as the Crucible of Flame. After the month is over, the scores will be tallied up and the winners will gain access to their swanky new castle above, with their guild icon floating off to the sides for everyone else to see.

TERA

When players do get their guild houses, they’ll be able to access all sorts of NPCs and services, including their own personal banks, auction houses and more, so they no longer need to gather around the crowded service NPCs in town. The guild masters can also personalize their skycastle with various statues and crystals and all sorts of cosmetic items to make their place more stylish.

Guild Housing

The best part regarding these guild castles is that they are not set off in some instanced zone, so players can fly up to their castle seamlessly, as well as jump off of their skycastle, if they choose too.

Overall, along with the new gear sets, rare crafting materials and other surprises, this new update brings a lot new features to TERA and will finally give players a good reason to join up or start a guild for the glorious prestige they can achieve, just for having a place to call home.

Neverwinter: Elemental Evil Launching March 17th

Neverwinter

The Forgotten Realms will soon be overrun with the Elemental Evil cults when Neverwinter: Elemental Evil launches for PC on March 17.

Along with the new Paladin playable class and level cap increase, Neverwinter: Elemental Evil’s storyline will see the return of Minsc & Boo – the ranger and miniature giant space hamster from the Baldur’s Gate series. The fan-favorite duo will be assisting players on their journey to discover the true nature of the Elemental Evil cults.

With the largest update to-date, Neverwinter: Elemental Evil brings a new playable class – the Paladin – that increases the playable classes count to eight. Players looking to create Paladins will be able to choose a focus on healing or tanking builds. The new module will also increase the level cap from 60 to 70, which brings a new set of quests, feats and slottable class feature powers.

Neverwinter: Elemental Evil also continues the partnership with Wizards of the Coast as Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment maintain a one-to-one release cadence with the official Dungeons & Dragons storylines. Neverwinter players will journey through new adventures as they fight the newest threat to Protector’s Enclave – the Cults of Elemental Evil – which are also present in the upcoming tabletop adventure release, Princes of the Apocalypse.
