I’ll not bore waxing poetic about how much fun I’ve had so far. Instead, I’m going to try and get right down to the nitty gritty. Actually, one of the games I’m covering today is the Xbox One version of SMITE, but I actually got to that on Day One. There were simply so many things happening on Day One and Two that it is impossible to cover everything I’ve seen. Big things are happening at PAX and it is my pleasure to discuss some of the more exciting things to come out of today and that was Forced 2, SMITE, and Life is Strange, Episode 2! The variety of game types I saw today were outstanding, and it is my pleasure and privilege to make you aware of what is going on at the Expo.

Just Shapes and Beats

Just Shapes and Beats is a “space avoider” action game by indie dev group ‘Berzerk Studio”. This game is focused on dodging shapes, listening to energizing music and hard difficulty.

Features:

There’s shapes: Dodge various objects on screen.

There’s beats: Game features tons of kick-ass music.

It’s hard: This game is very difficult, so expect to die a lot.

Ashes of the Singularity

Ashes of the Singularity is a RTS game that is currently in development by Oxide Games and will be available on Steam for purchase upon release. In Ashes of the Singularity, humans have created an exceptional AI which has helped bring them to a point in time in which improvements to intellectual capacity are no longer able to be predicted, the technological singularity. Players must fight for planetary control and programmable matter to help further their potential consciousness to unimaginable levels.

Features:

Economy Structure: Planets possess stores of both radioactive and metals which are vital for war efforts. With these, players are able to construct new units and structures to help them dominate. Extractors can be built to help retrieve these resources. Power is a resource which is needed by structures to operate. This can be secured through creation of generators.

Map Control: Different regions within a map each contain their own generator. Players are able to take control of areas within a map by securing generators, increasing their power reserve and discovering potential resources that can be gathered.

Different Game Modes: Ashes of the Singularity features three different game modes: skirmishes, scenarios, and multiplayer. Skirmishes are where players can battle against the AI on a selected map. Scenarios require a specific condition to be met before victory can be achieved. In multiplayer, players can face off against each other in 1v1, 2v2, or free for all matches.

Servo

In Servo a biomechanical nanobot designed to convert waste into power, known as Bloom, has become uncontrollable and taken over the Earth. Some were wealthy enough to be able to quickly flee the Bloom’s expansion while others were left behind. Players assume the role of those who made it out alive and they must outfit their own Servo team with pilots and equipment in hopes to survive harsh, new environments in this upcoming RTS by BonusXP.

Features:

Campaign: Servo features 25 different story missions in which players are able to travel back to the Earth, confront their Steelskin descendants who were left behind during the Bloom’s takeover, and even conquer Moons to gain resources while combating the Bloomspawn.

Co-op Mode: Players can fight alongside their friends in Servo, helping defend each other against the Bloomspawn. The longer players can manage to stay alive the better the loot that they will receive. Co-op leaderboards even exist to help players get a feel for where they stand in comparison to others.

PvP Mode: Players can face each other in Servo-on-Servo combat in PvP Mode. There are a variety of options for players to explore as they try to strengthen their units and ultimately eliminate their opponent’s base. Victories will result in credits, Servo parts, and better leaderboard standings.
