Warhammer 40,000: Regicide Reveals Largest Update yet featuring Raven Guard news header

Warhammer 40,000: Regicide sees the largest update it’s had to Early Access, with the addition of new environments, two new factions, hotseat, and live Multiplayer features.

A series of newly released imagery depicts a new battlefield – a ruined Imperial monument surrounded by trees, smoke and motes of ash at the heart of an ancient forest.

The addition of the “Raven Guard” Space Marines and “Snakebites” Ork Clan provides a ‘black and white’ set of pieces for both races currently in the game, alongside the White Scars and Goffs available at launch.

Hot-Seat mode – local multiplayer on the same machine – has been implemented alongside many general UI updates.

The heavy-hitting heroes of Warhammer 40,000: Regicide have seen updated animations for many sequence-effects with a wide range of sparks, blood and impacts now keyed to objective sources. Almost a hundred new or improved sound effects provide an additional crunch to the visual update.

Warhammer 40,000: Regicide’s game servers have also been completely overhauled to facilitate live multiplayer matches. Asynchronous play options remain available for custom challenges against friends.

New multiplayer functionality allow players to:
  • choose their starting board side
  • easily challenge friends to quick battles, directly from their Friends list
  • claim victory when opponents leave (forfeit) Live matches

Medieval Engineers Castle Siege and Development Interview

Questions by Jordan Hall (ApocaRUFF), Sandboxer

Answers by Ondrej Petrzilka, Lead Developer

Medieval Engineers Interview 01

This past week while E3 features were filling the net, I had to chance to talk to one of the rare indie developers that hit the big time, Keen Software House! Keen has been sharing the first footage of their new Castle Siege physics in Medieval Engineers, their sandbox survival simulator set in the dark ages. I had a chance to speak to them on what exactly their plans are to introduce this distinctly MMO aspect to their game, and what their plans for future development in Medieval Engineers is.

ApocaRUFF: Hello! Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. Please tell us a bit about who you are and what your role in development is.

Petrzilka: Hello, I am Ondrej Petrzilka, the lead developer for Space and Medieval Engineers. I joined Keen Software House in 2011 as a game programmer for Miner Wars 2081 and since then I have worked on various projects in the studio – mostly on the development of Space Engineers.

Medieval Engineers Interview 02

ApocaRUFF: Both Medieval and Space Engineers have received a lot of great reviews from both critics and players. What do you attribute to this success?

Petrzilka:I believe that our main attribute is that we offer something different than other games. In both games, players have the freedom to do anything that they want, express their creativity, and share their creations with the community. We also have interesting destruction of stuff that’s created 🙂

ApocaRUFF: Medieval Engineers has been out for a bit now, have things gone to plan? Have there been any major hurtles or surprises your team has come across along the way?

Petrzilka:Mostly yes. The only issue we had was with the destruction model before the release, because we underestimated its complexity.

Medieval Engineers Interview 09

ApocaRUFF: Is this new Castle Siege mode a clue as to the direction you want to take the game in the future?

Petrzilka:We tried it as an experiment; we want to see if it’s interesting for players and how they play it. This approach applies to many of the features that we add to the game. We plan to improve it and add more features and options during the upcoming weeks, but it’s not our main direction at the moment.

ApocaRUFF: What’s in store for the future of Medieval Engineers? What is the team working on now?

Petrzilka:We’re working mostly on survival features, like gathering, farming, building, crafting, character stats, and inventory. Also there’s a part of the team which is working on Castle Siege improvements.

Medieval Engineers Interview 11

ApocaRUFF: Any new blocks on the horizon? More wood and stone blocks (for aesthetics) seem to be a much-wanted addition. (Requested by community members)

Petrzilka:Our priority now is to add more features and then start adding more blocks. Once farming is done, we’ll add more blocks required for farming. Once crafting is done, we’ll add some basic furniture and other craftable blocks.

ApocaRUFF: How do the plans for water stand? Any ETA to its release?(Requested by community members)

Petrzilka:We’re planning to add ‘planar’ water in a few months. The water level will be the same for the whole map, and at sea level, there will always be water. This will allow us to make nice scenery with lakes, create wells, and use water for farming.

ApocaRUFF: Bugs are the bane of every game, especially those in Early Access. Is the team currently focusing on adding features with bug fixing taking a secondary role? Or are you trying to balance the two?

Petrzilka:We’re trying to balance the two. Serious bugs which break gameplay or annoy players have high priority and we’re partially ignoring smaller bugs like typos or minor visual issues.

Medieval Engineers Interview 07

ApocaRUFF: Some people want to see Medieval Engineers go further down the “Survival game” route. Is this the way you want the game to go, or are you trying to steer it in other directions?

Petrzilka:Yes, that’s the way we want to go, and that’s what we’re working on right now.

ApocaRUFF: What are your plans for Survival Mode? Many players seem quite interested in seeing this fleshed out.

Petrzilka:The short-term plan is to add character stats, inventory, and several ways of obtaining food, like gathering, hunting and farming. Other mid-term or long-term plans are to improve building, add crafting, and start working with other raw materials, like iron, clay, hay, hemp and others which will be used to create furnaces, forges, tools, mechanisms and better materials like steel and of course implement the new and improved Multiplayer version that we have been developing for a while now.

ApocaRUFF: In that vein, how important is realism for both Medieval and Space engineers?

Petrzilka:It’s quite important, but it’s always gameplay over realism.

Medieval Engineers Interview 04

ApocaRUFF: Have you guys thought about what projects you want to work on next after you’ve got Space and Medieval Engineers where you want them?

Petrzilka:Not yet. In Medieval Engineers, there are still so many things to work on before it starts to look the way we want it. The same applies for Space; there are still many things to improve and add until we decide to finalize the game.

Medieval Engineers Interview 03

ApocaRUFF:Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Petrzilka:I would like to thank our community, all the people who are playing our games, and the modders who create new content in their free time! Their feedback, support, and contributions are the things that keep us and our games alive. They really mean a lot to us and we do our best to make them as happy as possible.

WEBZEN, a global developer and publisher of free-to-play games, has expanded into mobile game publishing and is actively seeking new titles to bring to the gaming market.

In April 2015, WEBZEN expanded its business area into the mobile market, with the release of mobile MMORPG ‘MU: Origin’, and became one of the biggest mobile game publishers in Korea.

Since MU: Origin launched in Korea on April 28th, 2015, it has been ranked in the top 2 games of Google Play’s Korean top-grossing charts (as of today, June 29th, 2015). In addition to the Korean chart, MU: Origin was ranked in the top 5 games of Google Play’s worldwide top-grossing charts in May 2015. Source: App Annie Intelligence

Additionally, WEBZEN has directly published the game without any portal or SNS (Social Network Service) business partnership, and the company has maximized its profits without paying any fees to partners.

Along with this great success in the mobile game publishing business in Korea, WEBZEN has the expertise in technical infrastructure and marketing to publish mobile games, and is currently looking for potential partners in order to expand their business area into the global game market.

WEBZEN has already signed several publishing agreements for its next games, including the tentatively titled ‘Dragon lancer’, in partnership with U9 GAME (and Giant) on June 1st, 2015. Open beta testing for the Chinese gaming market is scheduled for 2015, and the game will be released in the Korean gaming market afterwards.

WEBZEN’s global game portal ‘WEBZEN.com’ has been in the top 5 position for global game portals, bringing free-to-play PC online games to a worldwide audience with 50 million players from all over the world.

WEBZEN is scheduled to open its B2B booth at Gamescom 2015 in early August, to meet game developers and publishers for cooperation in the mobile and PC online game business area.

Richard Sunmyoung Moon, Head of Global Business at WEBZEN, said, “WEBZEN has years of experience operating a global service platform, and we are delighted to expand our service into the mobile gaming market.” Also, he said, “We will run a B2B booth in the Korean Pavilion at Gamescom 2015, seeking potential business partners and new games.”
