Old School Runescape Celebrates 2nd Birthday

Old school runescape

Jagex, curators and creators of the popular MMORPG RuneScape have today announced that Old School RuneScape will be gaining free-to-play content permanently as part of its second birthday celebrations!

First launched in 2013, Old School RuneScape was originally a reboot of the 2007 version of the multi-award winning game. Since its launch it has been updated almost weekly with content selected and voted for by its community as part of the ongoing Player Power initiative.

To commemorate its second anniversary, and to honour the requests of its players, the game will see the introduction of free-to-play game mechanics alongside its popular membership version. Similar to contemporary RuneScape, this means players will be able to access the majority of the game for free with premier content becoming available with the transition to membership.

In addition to voting to include free-to-play as part of Old School, the community have also voted to introduce Membership Bonds. This will allow players to pay for their membership using in-game wealth in a similar fashion to the system already in place in the non-retro version of the game.

“The vote passed with 86% of those who entered the ballot in favour of the update,” said Mathew Kemp, product manager on Old School RuneScape. “To us on the development team, that’s a phenomenal testament both to the game and the commitment of our community.”

“When Old School launched,” Phil Mansell, RuneScape’s vice president, added, “we wanted to make sure that our players could still direct the shape of the game, while not losing any of the traditional charm they treasured. Here we are, 100 updates later, and about to launch a new business model for Old School based upon the suggestions and feedback of our players. It’s great to see such collaboration fuelling the continued success of Old School Runescape which has a great future ahead of it.”

Old School will celebrate its second birthday this weekend as part of Jagex’s livestream for the SpecialEffect charity and GameBlast 2015.

Outcast Odyssey: New Features Available

Outcast

BANDAI NAMCO Games America Inc. today released its first exciting major update for its free-to-play collectible card battle game, Outcast Odyssey, available on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

At the heart of Outcast Odyssey’s new content is the debut of the Event system, which lets players travel to new locations to take on special monsters for loot for themselves and their guilds. The addition of new Event Bundles in the in-game store allows lower-level explorers to participate in these adventures with useful cards and items. Players can also obtain new super-rare and epic cards to make their stands on the leaderboards.

Set in a world of high fantasy and magic, Outcast Odyssey combines the thoughtful tactics of a strategy card game with the action and adventure of RPG-based dungeon crawlers. Players can amass and construct powerful card decks to conquer dangerous territory in single-player mode, battle opponents in online multiplayer, and trade with friends and guild members.

Outcast Odyssey was developed to grow over time in several ways; in addition to new gameplay systems, rewards and challenges, BANDAI NAMCO Games partners with independent graphic artists to create unique artwork for each of its cards. The game launched last year with original designs from Warren Louw and Chuck Pires, whose creations pop on screen with stunning visual effects.

Outcast Odyssey and its latest update are now available to download for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as well as Android smartphones and tablets via Google Play. For more information on BANDAI NAMCO Games’ titles, please visit http://www.bandainamcogames.com.

Robotcraft releases Dawn of the Megabots Update

Robotcraft

Destructive robot-PvP battle game Robocraft has released their biggest update yet, titled Dawn of the Megabots.

The core of the update surrounds the introduction of Megabots, massive robotic monstrosities towering over the battlefield with five times the maximum cube count of a normal robot. In addition to their increased size, Megabots have unique oversized weaponry, shielding, armour and wheels to help outscale anything else they find on the battlefield.

With one Tier-X Megabot per team surrounded by an additional ten allied Tier-9 or Tier-10 robots each, players will find that driving straight in with guns blazing simply won’t work anymore. Whether to ignore, destroy, or disarm a Megabot is a decision that can only be made when faced by one of these goliaths, with the wrong decision costing the team greatly.

To help in the fight against the megabots, rotor blades, an agile helicopter-like component has been introduced to tiers 5-10. Far more specific in their movements than the aerofoils or helium blimps, the rotor blades allow for targeted shoot-and-hide tactics against the clumbsily slow Megabots.

Beyond new content, Dawn of the Megabots is filled with polish and ease-of-use changes such as  FPS optimizations, mirrored building, the new challenge mode, reworked maps, reworked fancy looking nation flags, a new informative lobby screen, and so so much more!

This year Robocraft reached 4,200,000 registered players and won the IndieDB ‘Indie of the Year’ award so now’s your chance to join this growing community and have a say in the development of the ever evolving pre-release game!
