Cosplayer Interview: Kamikaze Miko

It’s time once again for a “Cosplayer Interview”! Or “Cosplay Corner”! I’m still working on a snappy title for these. Regardless, one of the cosplayers I’ve come across is pretty damn inspirational. I first found her work as Illaoi, but she’s known for so much more than that! Kamikaze Miko, a cosplayer born in Washington DC, she now resides in Canada where she continues to pursue her love of cosplay! As a person afflicted with Lupus, she also supports the Lupus Foundation of Canada as well as the Lupus Foundation of America! For those of you unfamiliar or wish to learn more about this illness, please go and read on those two websites! If you’d like to keep up with the goings-on of Kamikaze Miko, please go to her Facebook Page! It has been an absolute pleasure to interview her, and there will be many more to come!

Q: Hello there! Why don’t you introduce yourself to the audience?

A: Greetings, my name is Kamikaze Miko. And thank you for having me for this interview.

Q: How long have you been cosplaying?

A: I have been cosplaying for five years now.

Q: Do you have a particular favorite character/cosplay that you’d like to be known for?

A: I mostly known for my classic Karma cosplay from League of Legends.

Q:  I understand you also have Lupus. I’ve met a few cosplayers who have that same struggle; does it create any particular challenges to your work?

A: It does, for me I get a strong amount of joint pains on a daily basis. The sun really hurts my skin almost vampiric in a sense where I can’t be in the sunlight too long. I get tired a lot easier and it’s hard to me to sew pieces now.

Q: Okay, how about hobbies outside of making costumes?

A: I do a bit of voice acting and stage acting on the side. Acting is my first love so I enjoy doing that when I can.

Q: Biggest pet peeve?

A: Besides scratching a utensil on a plate. I would say cosplay bullying and harassment in the community.

Q: When you do decide on a cosplay/costume, do you share it with the community?

A: Of course, it’s rare I hide a cosplay unless it’s for a secret group. Other than that I let my followers, friends and community know who I’m going to cosplay.

Q:  Any secret tricks of the trade you want to share, or advice to give to people who want to cosplay?

A: I would say loopholes honestly. There’s always a cheaper route to get a cosplay done without spending a ton of cash. I say if you wanna cosplay on a budget don’t go higher than a hundred.

Q: Any thoughts on what a Legendary Illaoi skin would be?

A: Wow I don’t know honestly. I am hoping she gets a Dunkmaster skin soon. I guess they could do like a Grand Priestess Illaoi for a legendary skin idea.

Q: What do you think the best part of cosplay is?

A: Having fun is the best part to me. Also being someone else for a day or moment. Being sick with Lupus a lot it’s nice to be a strong character that doesn’t have to deal with those things.

Thanks for tuning in, and enjoy this gallery of photos of Kamikaze Miko! Want more? Well her Facebook above is chock-full of her work and plans!
