PSX Hypetrain: MVC, Street Fighter and More!
Playstation Experience has officially come and gone! I didn’t think it was going to be a big deal to be honest. I had heard some rumors of games to be announced/footage to be shown off, and I wasn’t really on the hypetrain. I let it go at the station, because I was not a believer. Now I have to say: I was wrong. TAKE ME BACK, HYPETRAIN. In all seriousness, some amazing people were there, and stuff was shown off, and I want to talk about just a few of the things that I read/saw that really caught my eye. Lots of games, lots of potential for the coming year, all stuff for the Playstation! This list is in no particular order though, and if I missed something you saw, please feel free to speak up about the stuff you’re hyped about! What are you guys excited for?
- STREET. FIGHTER. V: This was the biggest of all for me, and I know I’ve explained it before. I love SF5, but I have no main chicken, no main character as they say. A few that I really enjoy, like R. Mika, but I had no character that really stood out to me. Until they announced that Sho’nuff, the Shogun of Harlem is coming. I mean Akuma. But come on, look at that hair. He’s easily Sho’nuff. He’s coming. . . December 20, I believe? Not to mention more characters are coming in the Season 2 Season Pass, and they teased all-new characters. The rumor going around is that we might finally get SF EX characters. Could Skullomania finally run wild? God, I hope so.
- Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite: Holy crap! This is a close runner up for me. I heard rumors and whispers of MVC4 being announced at PSX, and this is another one I just ignored, because people on the Internet like to make shit up for their own amusement. I mean, that’s what Bottom Tier is, after all. But the trailer and the 88 shown absolutely blew me away. The way it’s going to work from what they’ve said, is 2v2, no assists, and a more free-flow combat system, not just sweep, assist unblockable set up and win. Because that shit’s boring. Satisfying, but just fucking boring. It will also have an X-Factor system a’la 3, using the Infinity Gems. So far we’ve seen Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Ryu, Megaman X [first time he’s been in a fighter!], Morrigan and Captain America. I can’t wait for the rest of the cast. I have some picks though. I’ll save that for another day though.
- Obduction: I’ve reviewed Obduction, and I honestly loved it. The Obduction creator, Rand Miller, who is famous for Myst and so many more puzzle titles, was there with Adam Conover, star of one of my favorite shows on TV, Adam Ruins Everything. Seriously, I love learning new stuff, and he has a personality that really speaks to me. He also runs a stream, Adam Streams Everything. Maybe we can get him to come on Bottom Tier? Now that would be something. Who knows what the future holds? But they had an interview session, and also showed off Obduction for PS4, which is absolutely stunning. It’s one of the most unique and interesting titles I’ve played this year.
- Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy: Now this one I don’t really care about, because I wasn’t into that style of game as a lad, or as an adult, but I know a ton of people who are. So, I wanted to mention it because it is certainly a trilogy worth noting. We’re getting a remake of the original three Crash games, and they look absolutely wonderful. I’m not even a fan and I might play them. Maybe. We’ll see. But it’s a franchise that is going to make tons of money in the coming year, when those titles start rolling out again. Maybe we’ll see more classic PSX games get this treatment, like Spyro? Or maybe an HD Remaster of Symphony of the Night? But while Crash isn’t my cup of tea, it did a lot for the action platformer genre, so I have to give respect.
These are just a few of the amazing things announced at PSX. What about you guys? Are you excited for any of these? Did I miss a favorite, or did you hear a fun rumor? Drop it in the comments below!
