The power of the Dragon Balls is coming to the Nintendo Switch! Before Dragon Ball FighterZ shows up on the Nintendo Switch, Bandai Namco brings an Open Beta for players to enjoy. 23 of their favorite characters will be playable in Arena Match, Ring Match, and Ring Party Match modes, or take some time to practice in the Battle Tutorial Mode before tackling real-life opponents. The official date for Dragon Ball FighterZ is September 28th, 2018, and below are the Open Beta days and times:
August 3rd: Release the Open Beta on the eShop for pre-load only (players will be able to begin downloading the Open Beta client on this day).
August 9th (9:00pm PDT): Official release of the Open Beta on the Nintendo eShop and start of the Open Beta session (all players can now launch the game and have access to the online game servers).
August 11th (11:59pm PDT): The Open Beta period ends.
Noahmund is a JRPG from Estudio Abrego and has officially launched on Steam. Noahmund was inspired by Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy Tactics and has a unique visual style and node-based exploration system. The RPG also utilizes a Battle Chess tactical system and has already won two awards Málaga’s Gamepolis festival – “Best Audio” and a Special Jury Prize presented by industry luminary Gordon Walton. The game was also accepted into the prestigious Square Enix Collective. The land of Feros is at war, and an agent of Shinn known as Galina Angstroud is the only one willing to search and destroy Salaber’s most powerful weapon, which was deployed only months ago. It’s a journey for truth and salvation, and a battle against the odds to end this war between the North and South.
August is going to be a pretty solid month overall for the Nintendo Switch. One of the biggest games on the way this month is Okami HD, which is on the way on August 9th, 2018. I’ve never really explored Okami, but I’ve had ample opportunity to do so. You play as the wolf-like diety, Amaterasu, and are out to restore the world to its former glory and purge the evil stain upon the land. Plus you get to explore an awesome, ink-painted world and easy-to-use touch controls for all of the neat Okami gimmicks. It originally came out for the Playstation 2 and has had an incredible shelf life, being brought to life again and again. It’s a gorgeous game with a clever story, and one of Hideki Kamiya’s masterpieces. If you’ve missed out on it time and again, this is your chance.
Another upcoming title is Victor Vran: Overkill Edition. This is one that is definitely on my radar. It’s an isometric ARPG in the style of Diablo, where you play as Victor Vran, who is something of a badass. The best part of this to me is the “Through the Ages” DLC, which is focused on one of the coolest bands, Motorhead. Exploring the mythos of the most metal band alongside Victor Vran is just a really cool concept. I could pick it up on Steam whenever, but I kind of want it on my Switch a little more. The ability to play it away from my desk (without the need of my Steam Box) is a serious draw. I think it would work well on the portable Switch, and I’m very excited to see it come to life there. It’s currently scheduled out on August 28th, 2018.
Crush Your Enemies (August 2nd): I love strategy games, and I love them even more when they don’t take all day. I like my matches to not take an hour or two, and Crush Your Enemies definitely has that going for it. It’s raunchy, it’s tactically sound, and it’s a lot of fun. I originally reviewed it on Steam and loved it, Crush Your Enemies know what really matters: Violence, jokes, and beer. It’s got all of this and more. The PC version also had cross-play with the mobile versions, so I do hope that will carry over to the Switch. But it’s exciting, it’s fun, and more than a little crude, it’s a must-play tactics game in my book (8.00).
Iconoclasts (August 2nd): This is a game that is absolutely, 100% on my to-play list. It’s had an incredibly long development life, the dream of one man who wanted to make a 16-bit style platformer. What came to life is a beautiful Metroidvania (and you guys know how much I love those), and it tackles some pretty interesting issues in the story (such as the nature of free will). Use “Improvium” to grow, and tweak your character to your liking. It’s a gorgeous 16-bit world, and I need to play it. The characters are well designed, the world is beautiful and intricate, and it’s a game I’m very excited for. Bifrost Entertainment have gold here, I can feel it. I missed out on the Playstation 4, but I won’t for the Switch edition (19.99).
Not A Hero (August 2nd): Not a Hero: Super Snazzy Edition is … interesting. I love Roll7 though, they’ve put out some quality work. In this, an anthropomorphic bunny, BunnyLord comes from the future to get a professional assassin to clean up a town he wants to be the mayor of. That’s enough to get me on board right there. But Steve has to use a roster of “heroes” to do what must be done and use “reasonable” force in unreasonable ways to handle cover-based shootout gameplay. But, the political platform is based on ethics, accountability and gunfire. These all go together nicely, right? I’m not really sure what’s going on, but I do know I want it in my life (12.99).

Aftercharge is a 3 vs 3 competitive game pitting invisible robots against an invincible security squad in high-octane tactical skirmishes. Six glowing structures called extractor are at the center of the gameplay and serve as the objective for both teams. The robots have to coordinate their attacks, create distractions and sneak around to destroy them. The enforcers on the other hand have to cover as much ground as possible and use their abilities wisely to spot the attackers and stop them before they can destroy all of the extractors.
Behaviour Studios has teamed up with Playstation this month to offer Dead by Daylight as one of the two Playstation 4 PS+ games for August 2018. If you’ve missed out on the 4v1 Survival Horror title, now is definitely the time to do so. It goes live on August 7th and will be here for the remainder of August for free. Hot on the heels of their latest double expansion announcement (Endless Space 2: Supremacy and Endless Legend: Inferno), Amplitude Games announced that from Thursday, August 2nd until Sunday, August 6th, all Amplitude Studios’ games will be free to play for everyone. In addition, based on how many hours are played across all of their games by the community, there are Stretch Goals, which can be found at this link. Last year, 240,000 participated in the free weekend, which unlocked all six reward tiers.
Simply play Endless Legend, Dungeon of the Endless, or Endless Space 2 and reach 1 million hours of collective playtime to help the community unlock all the rewards, which include a Cravers Prime skin that was only available during Early Access, and as stretch goals, 6 additional fleet skins to unlock.
Here are some more details about each one of their titles, to help you pick the one you’ll try for free this weekend!
Who hasn’t harbored a secret dream or two of galactic domination? Whether you’ll burn and conquer your neighbors or cozy it up with them is up to you. Before long, you’ll be saying “just one more turn” as you lead your civilization to the stars…
For the more fantasy-minded, dive into the mystical world of Endless Legend, a strategy game where you must strive to save your people on the dying world of Auriga. Not to sound too braggy or anything, but this game was nominated game of the year by Rock Paper Shotgun and has won multiple awards for its soundtrack!
A cult favorite and a bit of an outlier from our other titles, this rogue-like game with a dash of tower defense takes place in a pixelized world with electro music inspired from the 80s and 90s. You and your team of heroes must try and protect the generator of your crash-landed ship all the while fighting monsters and trying to find your way out of a procedurally-generated dungeon! (try and say that one without pausing for breath)
The game that started it all! Our very first game, released in 2012, introduces the Endless Universe and our trademark slick UI and haunting atmosphere. Lots of our fans still seem to love playing it, so it’s worth a run!
