Samurai Gunn 2 Announced by Double Fine and Beau Blythe

Double Fine and Beau Blythe (co-creator of Hyper Light Drifter) have announced that Samurai Gunn 2 will be launching on the Nintendo Switch and PC in early 2019. It will also be playable at Pax West at the Nintendo Booth (#1939). In Samurai Gunn 2, a mad emperor pushes to expand the city at a ridiculous pace, while an epidemic of gunpowder overdoses is on the rise, and old spirits are creeping back into the world. A princess, a golem, a samurai knight, and a homeless girl all have a part in rewriting the fate of Gunn City forever.  Samurai Gunn 2 will also have an expansive adventure mode and an updated versus mode. Armed with only a sword, a gunn, and three bullets per life, players will fight or fly past their foes to discover the threat behind Gunn City’s current peril. That or they can battle with a group of two to four friends in versus mode with sharpened controls, a new levels, and characters.

The original Samurai Gunn was prized for its simplicity and depth. Samurai Gunn 2 expands on that depth with a new mechanic that makes every encounter even more exciting. Crush a bullet between your teeth to send yourself flying in a plume of smoke. “Good design means the player always has a meaningful choice to make,” said Beau Blyth. “The game immediately became so much more fun when the gunnpowder dash was added. There’s a Rock-Paper-Scissors effect now. Sword beats Gun beats Dash beats Sword.”

“We’re huge fans of the original Samurai Gunn and Beau, so having this opportunity to work with the team on this sequel has been amazing,” said Greg Rice, Double Fine’s Vice President of Business. “We can’t wait for everyone to check out the game and Samurai it up!”

Starflight 3’s Fig Campaign Has Begun

The grandfather of the Sci-Fi RPG genre is without question Starflight, create by HumaNature. HumaNature launched a Fig campaign for 800k USD, which would allow them to hit their scheduled Q4 2020 launch for Starflight 3: Universe. The link for the Fig Campaign can be found here, where people can be rewarded or invest in Starflight Fig Game Shares that pay a return based on the sales of the game. Starflight 3 is the next chapter in the Staflight universe. It is a sci-fi single-player, sandbox role-playing game that focuses on exploration, diplomacy, resource gathering, and combat. Players will have solar systems with tons of planets to discover and explore, mine for necessary resources, catalog new creatures, trade and use diplomacy with locals, all while saving the universe. Starflight 3 is a true free-form experience. New and previous races, uncharted solar systems, and never-before-seen planets are all waiting in the next iteration of the classic franchise.

  • Randy Pitchford, CEO/President, Gearbox Software: “If Starflight didn’t exist, Gearbox wouldn’t exist, that means Borderlands wouldn’t exist.”

  • Ernest Cline, Ready Player One: “Starflight is an all-time favorite of mine. Starflight is still one of the greatest video games ever made.”

  • Chris Taylor, Creator of Dungeon Siege: “As one of the earliest memorable spaces games made on the PC, Starflight is a true classic in the genre, and it’s hard to think about space games without having flashbacks to this pioneering entry in the genre.”

  • Casey Hudson, Director of Mass Effect: “Starflight was a key inspiration for the (Mass Effect) series.”

  • Trip Hawkins, Founder of EA: “Starflight was space-breaking as it pioneered the Sci Fi RPG category. It blended what I love about Asimov’s books and the way Star Trek and other shows leverage the diversity of crews, in a potent story of human courage and epiphanies.”
