tl;dr on that, I befriended a snail while on a walk through the woods the other day. I wanted to keep him and have him be my friend, but I didn't know what snails eat.

Then I thought about it, and realized he was a really big snail, and he must have been pretty strong to live that long in the wild, so removing him would just be sad for both of us.
